I lived in Gatineau for a few months in 2014-15 and the area is so different today. It's so great to see these old lines when they were still in service - especially from the cab window. By the way these are 8mm films, not "video recordings" for all you young'ins.

One of my favourite videos for reliving the past. I travelled on The Canadian twice out of old Union Station, which probably sparked my love of trains. I remember as a kid riding over the Alexandra bridge by car and the sound of the tires over the metal grate roadway. We called it the airplane bridge because of the sound. BTW, does anyone know where Hull Beemer Station was located?
It is so interesting to see what Ottawa looked like when it had the railroads downtown then way before I was born. Do they still have the railway tracks in Hull or have they been removed?
What a disappointment that they couldn’t keep it around. That’s a perfect loop for two growing cities, so scenic, and yet here we are decades later trying to restore some semblance of what we had a long time ago.
Excellent way to see how a ride on the rails was in 1966. The date at the start has to be wrong though, April 12 in Ottawa never looks like mid summer! August 12 perhaps....a great video nonetheless.

What was the overpass used for right after the Prince of Wales bridge?
That appears to be the Ottawa River Parkway overpass under construction at the time. Now called Sir John A Parkway. Overpass still there.
