    Thanks for taking the time to review the game, Alex. I really like how you explained how the whim cards work. I might have to borrow some of that for when I teach it!

    One of the best How To Play videos on RUclips. Very clear explanation and thorough example. Thank you!

    I love that players can simultaneously play at various difficulty levels

    I think board games need to use categorization similar to video games. This would be a Beta, nearly ready for release, looking and playing like it should for release. This would be a production sample.
    Then there would be an Alpha, which would be far rougher, often 3D printed and one-off printings for parts.
    A prototype would be something even more rough, where it's cards without proper art, rough printing from home, or just cubes or plain meeples, etc. That would be a true prototype.

    “Chess-Hire” is definitely one of the most interesting pronunciations I’ve heard.

    This one is totally coming down to price + shipping. I have seen far simpler games now creeping into the $50+ territory. I feel the deluxe version of this game is going to be like $80 + $20 shipping (US) which would make me pass. I understand the global situation but it is getting to point that I feel I should just sit out KS because pledges are getting very expensive for a hobby that is generally expensive, to begin with.

      Agreed all around. I am sympathetic but will also spend less.

      So happy with the price for this. Was already going for retail + expansion but when I saw deluxe version was only $5 more I went all in. Shipping isn’t bad for us / uk. Shipping expenses really have been killing me lately so I understand

    I liked this video as you already were really deep into the strategy of the game. I also saw a lot of parallels how i would approach a game like this. So it helped a lot, if this might be something for me.
    I also do agree that it looks repetitive so i'd only consider it with the modules. Which means price point is gonna be crucial.

      Yep, totally agreed on price point.

      We've worked really hard to bring that price down, so we hope it hits that sweet spot for you.

      Solid game, fun little deduction plus variable winning conditions.

    You convinced me to order the expansions. Might've saved me from a game feeling stale after a while, so thanks!

    Why they would make essential gameplay elements available only in the deluxe version is beyond me? What’s the goal here? Backers rate it highly, it then hits retail and people will be disappointed. Even if KS extras release as paid add one…who’ll buy them if the base game was just okay? Can’t win with this approach

    • @NorthStarGames1
      @NorthStarGames1 3 года назад +5

      We're biased as the publisher, but for those who love the puzzle, the base game could be all you need. Much like Sudoku or Hanabi, that variety can come through a puzzle that looks similar on paper. The expansion adds in new goals, but its a personal choice if you feel the design "needs" that.
      "Why they would make essential gameplay elements available only in the deluxe version is beyond me?"
      The expansion will also be available at Retail should people want those extra modules.

      Different people have different tastes. I've played close to if not 100+ times. I prefer playing the base game without expansions. I'm happy to play with the expansion stuff if the group wants to, bit the base game on its own is my favorite way to play.

      @@BTWalrus this isn't about expansion stuff that adds to a great game. This is about expansion stuff that MAKES the game. That kind of stuff shouldn't be reserved for Kickstarter backers but to the general public since without it...it won't be scored or perceived well.

    • @BTWalrus
      @BTWalrus 3 года назад +4

      @@elqord.1118 I'm saying I, personally, prefer the game without the expansion content. Not everyone will feel that way. It is just my 2 cents.

      Normal people at Target don’t necessarily want or need the extra stuff.
      This game will probably be sold at Target. If so, it would be an easier product to sell if it’s more affordable. Not everyone wants a more complicated game and having the freedom of being able to choose to take that next step is appealing to people who don’t want to shell out $60 on a game upfront.
      The expansion doesn’t make or break a game. The base game is already a game. It’s “enhanced” by the expansions and maybe that’s what “experienced” gamers are looking for. If so, $25 for an expansion to make your game “that much more” maybe is worth it. Then add $5 and you get deluxe components.
      In a way I agree though, the expansion does make the game more interesting and I don’t know if another $50 would bring me $50 worth of happiness. Maybe if there was a solo mode and a dodo bird. I am very tempted because I do want North Star Games to succeed. And I hope someday they’ll reprint expansion packs for Wits and Wagers again. ;) that might be something to consider…they might not reprint expansion packs forever…
