NES music destroys the SMS. However, if they had made use of the FM chip in some SMSes, then the SMS would have likely one. Still either way, I have a soft spot for any chip tunes, including some from the SMS PSG. (though the PSG isn't great in most cases) I sometimes wonder if it is capable of a wider frequency range, (like more bassy sounds) and they were just trying to cater to the tiny TV speakers of the time. I can't imagine it not being able to hit lower frequencies due to hardware restriction, but I don't believe I've ever heard bassy SMS music. Otherwise, the graphics are more or less on par, with maybe the SMS edging out the NES in palette. The game play on the NES probably tops the SMS.
These are different games, but I have them both on these systems. Visuals and sound are much better on the Master System, gameplay is not so different. So the winner is the Master System, story on the nes is much better. But who cares? I pick the Master System version over the Nes version.
It's worth noting that the SMS game introduced the wall-to-wall jumping mechanic, which was later adopted by the 3D Ninja Gaiden games, replacing the NES trilogy's wall-sticking mechanic (which never really made much sense, since Ryu Hayabusa isn't exactly Spider-Man). That's partly what makes the SMS the superior platforming game. The wall-jumping adds a whole new level of depth to the platforming, with jumping precision being key to the gameplay. This was an aspect of gameplay missing from the earlier NES games. This video doesn't really demonstrate the SMS game's wall-jumping much though. It's only near the end of the video that we see the player using the wall-jumping mechanic, and it looks like whoever was playing the SMS game is struggling a little.
I see that when Ninja Gaiden 2 came out on the NES, they kept with what they had on the SMS. Because the NG2 looks more like this SMS version. One other thing is that the NES version came out like 3 years after the SMS version, too. So they had more to put into it music-wise and story wise. But the SMS is is actually ahead of the NES version graphically for sure. Especially since NG didn't look like that on the NES until NG2. SMS was a seriously underrated system in the States...
If you are referring to the 3 year gap in release dates in the video, those are a bit misleading. The 1988 in the SMS version is referring to the arcade Ninja Gaiden, which is completely different. The SMS version was released in 1992. The date of 1991 shown in the NES version here is referring to the PAL release (Shadow Warriors). The game was released in 1989 in Japan and North America. Ninja Gaiden 2 was released in 1990 (PAL release was in '94), and NG3 was released in 1991 (didn't get a PAL release). So as much as I like the SMS and its version of Ninja Gaiden, it actually came out after the entire NES trilogy.

Master System obviously had way better graphics but the nes wins in terms of the platform level designs.
Obviously not. Did we watch the same video? Flat as fuck graphics on the Master System with tiny bosses and inferior cutscenes.
Us in the US didn't get Ninja Gaiden on the Master System. Hell I had no idea it existed.
If this were released after the Nintendo version, everyone would have called it an immitation. The graphics looks nice, and the movement is fluid, but damn, the ear piercing sounds is horible. Can you mute the right side audio for this video?
voto nes, mais desafiante, ritmo fernetico ,banda sonora fantastico, engraçado sprite animaçao laço movimentar sms igual do ninja gaiden 3 nes.
master system is a ton faster and looks kinda like ninja spirit. if it had cool cut scenes and the bosses were creepy like in the nes version it might have been better. nes music is full range awesome tho. even better than snes remake.
the sms version can not compare to this nes classic.
Except it has superior graphics, sound and controls.
@@rootykazooty351 eerrrr no
@@rootykazooty351 sound and controls for me definitely better on NES
@@rootykazooty351 The NES version has very precise and accurate controls; even better than some Capcom games from that era...
Nes is more iconic.
Doesn't make it better hands down. If anything, it's *arguably* better.
@@TS-yz3ud
It's flat out better in every single way except less colorful. Sega's Ninja Gaiden might as well be a bootleg hong kong version.
@@kekeke8988 Again, I don't care about your personal belief. Choose what you want.
I Only ask, why the hell are they so different? i don't mean about graphics, I can underestand that, I think you should try to take advantage of the machine capacities, right.... but i mean the story and the leve desings...
Why the hell are they so so different??????
Cuz they were not made by the same developer.
NES stage one: double dragon rip off.
master system stage one; shinobi rip off.
You mean Revenge of Shinobi?
Complicado.
NES si o si
Nes é o clássico!
SMS version better in controller and graphics.
Josue Ortiz nes is much better, it have better gameplay and musics
Josue Ortiz
Controller is better on SMS? I don't think so.
Yeah, that's insane. He's waaaaay too floaty and clunky in the SMS version. I don't understand how someone could think the SMS version has better controls.
Master System version wins
As always. Master system wins.
No it isn't i hope you're not blind enough in the cutscene departement
Ha, the master system version is so damn hard...
hard than the nes version?
+Vampirerockstar
I haven't played the NES version enough to compare the difficulty.
All Ninja Gaidens historically are hard games.
The only easy one is the one on the DS.
jeje gb version is so easy
The SMS version is better by far
Master System version is superior in ALL aspects. The difference in graphics and sound are brutal. NES colors are ridiculous. Master System wins easily.
nes version was more popular and famous
alvaro u , popularity and quality are different things. Ferrari is not a popular car...
wich game is more famous and expensive?
alvaro u , famous? Expensive? It's useless to game quality. Let's talk only about important things: gameplay, graphics and sound.
"nes version was more popular and famous"
depends where you live i guess the master system outsold the nes in some places in the world and most likely sold more copies of the master system version there.
master system - europe / brazil
nes - north america / japan
Sound & Music: NES is better
Graphic Quality: SMS
Acho que deu empate.
The Sega Master System. Superior in every way.
The Ninja Gaiden from Sega just plain sucks. The Nintendo version is the winner. A better game by indeed. In every way.
I just realized you comment twice. STFU
make same video but now nes vs snes
+Maxim Ukhin yeah xD
Nes 1000× Wins music the best!
Nes é claro pelo o erredo
The SMS version looks and feels more like some fan-made bootleg, and in some respects it is. Its not even developed by Tecmo.
It's not even bad, though.
SMS version was developed by Sims, one of the best studios working for Sega at the time.
@@engroga Well. They didn't bring their A game with this one. Beating the NES version is like a rite of passage, while the SMS one is a visit to Weenie Hut Jr's.

Nes very bad... uf
Why Shadow Warrriors and not Ninja Gaiden? Are you british?
I know. I know about non violent stuffs.
Oh okay so the guy is from europe, that makes alot of sence
Is From Brazil.
Nes
NES
The sound on nes is awful but single version I play
SMS Better Sound?
Hahaha has if Graphics ok
But Sound Can't beat NES .
NES WINS
The NES story is filled with cliches and plotholes.
The SMS story is an epic tale of revenge.
Doesn't really matter since NES is the objectively better game.
The cutscene were plain suck on SMS the system deserves better
Sound, gameplay, cinema display, story, NES Wins...
Graphics, NES. Everything is too flat on the Master System and no parallax.
