This soundtrack is a masterpiece. It's a crime this music is not available to stream.
An even bigger crime is that this score was not even nominated at the 97 Oscars. This is a great score and I don't use the word great lightly
@@YortOK Just got your info on this. Shocker. It's a rippa.
Screw Steam enjoy it for yourself
The score beneath the opening titles of one of my favourite films captures freedom and hope. And yet there’s such a wrenching sense of inevitability. It’s EVERYTHING. Heartbreak, spirit and beauty.
I often feel quite isolated when it comes to music. Not always people around you seem to appreciate or understand the things you love or what's important to you, not even your closest friends or family. Feels like living in my own world. And I often come to the comments section on RUclips just to read people's opinions and see if they feel like I do. Somehow I feel connected, less lonely and comforted.
I discovered this film not so long ago and I knew straightaway this music would stay with me forever. It's certainly one of the most beautiful scores I've ever heard in my life. Thank you so much for sharing.
loving this music! eternal thanks to Kilar!
Beautiuful movie, Perfect music Maestro Wojciech Kilar. Poland. Love IT 💞
I've always preferred "The Portrait of a Lady" over "The Piano" (even if I like this film too). I remember people were somehow disappointed when the film came to theaters. Fortunately, it has gained more prestige as time has gone by. For me, this is Nicole Kidman's best performance.
I agrew with you. I love this movie so much, way better than the Piano
Lots of folks still think that the movie betrayed Henry James' work, and Jane Campion and Nicole Kidman were not "sophisticated" enough to tackle James. I am, however, of the opinion that Jane Campion's work is even more impressive than Henry James' novel (but this will never be agreed with by the academia). Nicole Kidman made 3 legendary films in the 90s: this, To Die For and Eyes Wide Shut. Even if she no longer acted after the 90s, that is enough to cement her place in cinema history.
This music is exquisite. I adore Kilar. I appreciate this upload. Thanks Stribogh.
I saw this film years ago and I have to say that the film did not impress me very much but W. Kilar soundtrack blew me away. Much much better than his score for Coppola Dracula. I bought the CD with this soundtrack but.. I lost it(or maybe I had it stolen 🚀). I've followed W. Kilar's works and this one is my all time favorite. Thanks so much for uploading this classic 🙏🙏🙏
The cinematography, set design, and performances are magnificent. Something about the film was lacking, but all the elements of a great film were there. Sometimes that happens.
it deserves listening everyday
Thank you for posting this beautiful music! I loved this movie so much! Kilar is a pure genius
Must see the film or acquire it. This sound track is amazing. Kilar is a man of many moods, full of rhythms, full of beautiful music. I am a captive of Certain Light, it haunts me day and night I have this melody lurking around my brain. Sometimes not aware of the source, then I realise, it’s Certain Light!
How beautiful.
It's terrifying when art is this good. Even the most temperate, patient evenings must draw to a close, the light vanish. And for how few of us will this masterpiece flicker as we dissolve into the great Forever. R.I.P. Janet Patterson.
Your words are very evocative and thoughtful in describing your impressions. Are you a writer in any professional way? i would love to read more of what you write. I think you have a very creative gift.
@@paulheffron4836 oh Paul. Indeed, great words. Portrait has been an inspiration to me my entire life. It made me want to be a screenwriter
I saw this film in September 2022. The soundtrack is magic and classics.
This film is charged with so much emotion and this music evokes that every time I hear it.
Love this soundtrack. Particularly love the opening piece - truly beautiful and haunting.
I came across this soundtrack years ago. I think I've worn out the CD. This has got to be one the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever come across.
completly true for me feel exactly the same.
I got it on a cassette tape.wore it out walking,when I was alone,so alone,all those years ago
I was already a fan of Le Roi et l'Oiseau and Dracula but I had never heard this score, nor did I hear about the movie. About the same thing could be said about The Ninth Gate (I found the movie average but the score is, well, Kilar!) and certainly more that I will discover. Thank you for this magnificent post.
That's the most beautiful Kilar's score perhaps excerpt "Dracula". Ultimate masterpiece.
The ninth gate also
👏🏻
NOV 3 2020 - ELECTION DAY IN THE USA.
GOOD THING GREAT MUSIC NEVER DIES OR FADES.
KILAR, THANK YOU SAVING ME DURING COVID19
NOW, TIME TO PUT MY LIFE BEFORE ME.....IT IS TIME TO LIVE.
Love this soundtrack. Especially the first song, My Life Before Me.
"My life before me", one of my favourite music EVER.
Hadn't listen the rest of the OST, it's INCREDIBLE!!!

One clear sign of a great film director is choosing wonderful music, and Campion is definitely in this category. The opening scene with contemporary women dancing is transfixing.
Yes, Campion knows who she is and completely trusts herself.
bardzo polskie klimaty kocham
Might as well be the most underrated soundtrack I've ever listened to. How come no one has ever mentioned it anywhere? Why wasn't it even nominated for an Oscar?
That's a good question!
Agreed! I cant believe bafta didnt recognize it either and PoAl was the best film
In 96 dont u think
@@nitpicker12 Better film than Fargo?
Yes, better.
It's worth checking all Wojciech Kilar's great soundtrack. He snever received an Oscar for any of them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wojciech_Kilar
The prologue alone is timeless perfection.
One of my favourite!
Just saw his movie today, but I fell in love with soundtrack before that!
Hipnotyzujące, cudna muzyka.
Superb
The more I listen to this soundtrack the more the heavy cry of fatality hits me.
More than possibly the expression of helplessness and loss experienced by the main character, the soundtrack highlight the despair and the fight
Gerard Beaubrun Couldn't say it better.
Yes but real question is, who is it that you are missing? What is it that you regret so much, and was it your own fear and inability to take action that ultimately broke your heart? Not facing the fear, but living with a lifetime of regret, it’s by far the worst fate. I don’t care who they are, where they are, if they are still alive, find them and tell them how you feel.

This Prologue is something else!
Did this win the soundtrack Oscar that year? Dunno, should have.
I had read Carmilla (Sheridan Le Fanu) with this music, and... all this awesome sound introduced me more in that fantastic narration.
U
TWILIGHT CELLO AND A CERTAIN LIGHT HAVE ALWAYS HELD A CERTAIN CHARM FOR ME....GREAT MUSIC THAT WILL STAND THE TEST OF MANY LIFETIMES. NOV 3 2020.
ps....THE WINGS OF THE DOVE SOUNDTRACK IS GREAT AS WELL.
Oscar is too poor for this music 👍
awesome, dreamlike, deep, evocative, alluring piece of music
THANK YOU!! I've been looking for this soundtrack EVERYWHERE!!
Masterpiece
complexity, beautiful, and exotic
Here after watching (Tesla) movie , absolute relaxation ♥️
WSPANIAŁA muzyka ... A GREAT COMPOSER
Thank You for posting this ! ❤
Oh so beautiful
Swept along in The Kiss- I was hardly able to breath. Then at Love Remains- felt as though my heart would break.Because,I know, after many years- that yes- it does.
Just watched The Portrait of a Lady for the first time. Loved it so much, can't believe it's regarded as a minor Jane Campion.
Anyways, this beautiful score is one of the reasons why I thought the film was excellent. Thank you for uploading this!
I love Kilar... have seen many Polish films with his music. I studied in the city where he lived and composed.
That he holds his own with Schubert is all that need be said.
Phantasms of love is the standout theme for me. The embodiment of troubling seduction.
I love ... Love Remains... So sweet...
The Piano soundtrack and movie was so great, I bought this before even seeing the movie. Not disappointed! Jane Campion sure knows how to pick her composers..
every time i listen to soundtrack i seem to live in another time
Same thoughts here
Brilliant british sounds and pictures💐
Man - Wojciech Kilar is the BEST! No one has nerve like him.

kilar genius
🎼❤️🎵❤️🎶❤️
Wojciech Kilar 👍❤️
Me transporta, no lo puedo evitar....
extremely beautifull song for an extremely beautifull woman, Nicole Kidman
This music is also used in the new film TESLA; new version recorded by Michael Paesano.
tres joli,merci
it is strictly opening your mind to perception of the new dimension.
Count Dracula It is amazing how this music makes different people, from different backgrounds and countries, feel the same!
Proud to be Polish!
C'mon, if you hate Polish people, don't listen to the Polish music! Nobody needs you here...
Sorry, I really don't care.
Proud to have a stomach!
Jakub Skrzeczkowski Rightly so. As an American (of no Polish ancestry whatsoever) will forever be grateful for the role that the Polish people have played in the preservation and indeed birth of the United States starting with the great Tadeusz Kościuszko among other Polish heroes of the American Revolutionary War. So yea, thanks from the USA!
sublime
KILAR IS INDEED A COMPOSITORY GENIUS AND HELAS ONE WHO IS RATHER UNKNOWN AND DISREGARDED AT LEAST IN MY COUNTRY!
Came here because of the Tesla Movie, the prologue is so beautiful
Stunning. Wasn't Michael Nyman originally doing this score but Campion didn't like what he came up with. Anyone know that story? She certainly chose the best score in the end
Micharl Nyman had issues with the story so he backed out and Jane had to find somebody else and luckily for all us she got killar
Anna Maria Jopek - Szepty I Lzy led me here
Check out: Anna Maria Jopek - Szepty i łzy
(Depth, melancholy and lyricism never free the essential elements of this wonderful score with a film not always free from sexist scruples.)
You'll love Anna Maria Jopek - "Szepty i łzy" from her "Bosa" album
adoro Shubert e Kilar
Love this Nicole Kidman movie.

Why ironic??
❤❤❤❤❤
Life means surviving all over our subsisted, fragile pass through this world, I might say this by my own life . ODE to those composers who breaks into what is sutch truth !
what flutes are this on the first track? Love the sound so much
They are not transverse flutes but actually wooden recorders (treble size) like we play at school. Recorders had their hey-day in the early music period up until early baroque when the transverse flute took over. But recorders still make a lovely sound for the right style of music. You’ve waited three years - hope I’ve answered your question adequately!
@@theoduval1408 already found it out before, but thank you :)
Is it for henry james?
Yes, he wrote the novel the film is based on.
I came here for 'A Certain Light'
My eyes found your comment at the precise same moment that track began to play.
Piano jazz master Kuba Stankiewicz pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuba_Stankiewicz
Please..who can help me to get the full movie??? Many thanks
KILAR.W. 👍👍👍
Does anyone know the ball scene march?
Kredits to melody lines :)
Can someone please tell me the flute sound at the start of the prologue? My searching is at an end.
Two flutes?
What flutes?
So warbly. Thanks.
Someone in the comments mentioned that it's a recorder.
❤👍🇨🇵
Poor Pansy....
Quem rege?
Really, Nicole Kidman played the role of meg. She was a resident in her biological fathers estate, Eduardian having to live with the sera ret family, then being at odds with the step-mother, an awkward relationship. She bled the neighbors who were sick with the Black Plague afterwards pouring oil to soothe the pain. Later, Meg fell in love with John Costinine, notwithstanding who fled to Greece without a trace. She survived the torments becoming a general PR actioner. Lisa
His music is beautiful. He adopted a similar style as John Barry.
Not bad - but lacks some consistency with the real content of the book and movie. Anyway, 1st track is the pillar center. Thanks.
