I thought this was an excellent review. It helps when you've got an excellent product to review and it looks like Anbernic really knocked this release out of the park. I hope it's a big success for them and I hope this video is a big success for Todd as he builds his channel.
@@ToddTronics one of the smoothest reviews since I started looking for pocket device last week, so I hope your channel gets the attention it deserves. Well earned sub 😅 keep it up mate!
Ordered mine in atomic purple to match my Odin 2. Hopefully I’ll get it soon to start making some testing videos. Great review brother. Subscribed. 🎮✌🏻
@@RetroGeekCorner thanks I was gonna trade with another reviewer for purple but decided the black looks better for the video I have coming out tomorrow it’s a comparison to my black rpmini
Just came across your channel with this one. Great video, was stoked to see you test PS2 SSX Tricky and MC3Dub Ed because those are a couple of my favorites too. Sub’d
@@HendraWijaya1983 the rp mini to me is just never gonna be as comfortable and the screen is just too small and I own both so I feel unbiased when saying that
Im torn between this now and the rp5. I was in for the rp5 until this review. Would you be able to do a video on your opinions // vs type between the two?
I wonder how will it perform with some retro shooters like Quake or Half Life. I have been wating for a handheld to have a layout like the 406H so I can turn it into a mini boomer shooter machine.
I dont kniw if i should get this or the Retroid Pocket 5? This looks more comfortable, i wish it was just a bit more powerful but for me irs the comfort and gaming experience that matter most. Still undecided though.
@ToddTronics Thanks for the reply. I'm not interested in the mini, I've just narrowed it down to those 2 for now. I've heard the sticks on the RP5 are a bit uncomfortable after a while. I look forward to your review.
I just got mine. I bought the one with the 128 SD card. I don't see where or how to access the games. Is it possible mine did not come pre-loaded? Can I buy a pre-loaded card?
Edit: Btw, I just ordered my 406H! People complain/joke a lot about how they release way too many consoles but: 1. It is the user the one who decides when to buy, we should not rush it. 2. They aren't a non-profit organization, they want to sell (and they are succeeding) 3. Nobody said that reviewers (like you) should buy/get EVERY console they release I write this not to complain about this video, but about others I've seen who just rant about how mad they were because they can't keep up (notable example: Retro Dodo)
Damn Anbernic can you ditch the Nintendo Xbox Sony 4 button layout and remake a damn Anbernic ARC with the classic 6 Button SEGA layout, I'm sick of this style that saturates the entire market of retro handhelds. At least make a version 2 that is capable of playing Saturn games
How does this stack performance wise against the RGB30 or RP5? Ive got an RGB30 and love it, but was looking for something with a little more power. Looks like the screen is the same as the RGB30?
@@Ravenwritindesk rgb30 cannot do any ps2 or GameCube so this leaps more powerful also this screen is 4:3 and the rgb30 is 1:1, and I actually have a video comparing it to the rp mini coming out tomorrow morning but this is less powerful than the mini /5
@ToddTronics Thanks, Todd. Appreciate you taking the time. I know powerwise RGB30 is on the low end. I love it and play it all the time, but the screen, while vibrant is kinda small for my old man eyes. I keep getting stuck in this loop of "Maybe I want a retroid pocket 5... Well, I don't like the thumb stick placement. Well, maybe an Odin 2... Kinda expensive. May as well get a steam deck. Oof. Steam deck is pretty expensive. I'll stick with the RGB30." Trying to find the best retro handheld is like comparing apples and potatoes and every month, someone makes new kinds of apples and potatoes. Haha
First reviewer ive seen with a black model, and it definitely looks nice! Whats so bad about native resolution? Doesn't that mean its just the resolution it played at originally? I am curious if this connects with Bluetooth, i only use Bluetooth headphones these days especially in bed with the wife
Yes native means whatever resolution it was when it was released on the original console. Bluetooth audio will work fine, it's basically like an android phone.
@tabasco_taz5804 Thank you! I've seen a few reviewer seem upset when games play in native, like it's unplayable, but if that's literally how it was originally played that's an odd complaint 🤷🏻
It would be if it weren't this damn thick. There is no point having a protruding joystick for hyper-maximum accuracy when the aspect ratio is 4:3 which makes is clearly skewed towards truly retro games.
If Ambernic started using Oled and snapdragon on their high ends I think they’d be even more formidable. Rn I think they’re only good for their low end devices because their expensive ones just aren’t powerful enough
@@dbozgt steam deck is great and rg556 is very similar but this is a pocketable device so I think it kinda serves its own purpose pretty well and also these sticks are way better than the 556 ones

Great to see, that Anbernic used again the fantastic SEGA style D-PAD from the RG ARC and the RG CUBE!
