  • The FBI opened a criminal investigation into the collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge. Federal officials want to know if the crew was aware that the cargo ship that rammed the bridge last month had been malfunctioning before it left port. CBS News' Nicole Sganga has more.

@@MiMiiViVithat explanation only makes it worse since that literally implicates the City of Baltimore for allowing a bridge building project that likely wasnt "up to code" and the company they've contracted to do the work. In cases like this that normally would go to the mayor which if you've lived in baltimore you'd know corrupt and mayor has been synonymous with the city for over 40 years at this point.

Nothing like the American tax payer who doesn't understand the meaning of taxation and genuinely thinks it's theft while constantly boot licking companies that avoid paying taxes to the point that I'm betting you personally pay more than most CEOs and even our presidents do.
This is honestly one of the few times that tax payer money is spent in a good way.
All I ever here from Republicans is how tax payer funds should basically be used for nothing at all and not understanding the importance of public infrastructure.
Like really, what would you rather your tax dollars go to personally? If you had to choose where your money gets sent, just say it.
Oh, also, the ship companies insurance will most certainly pay back what it cost to fix the bridge. However would you rather we just wait for the insurance companies to pay for it while we have a key bridge down just so you can say "Good thing the bridge is down, that way we can fund wars rather than fix what's broken over here."?

If we wait for payment from the insurance company well they are not in a hurry, investigation, waiting for mechanical reports, drug testing and then there is the claim process. 20 years in the business.
Don't worry the people will not lose money on this needed rebuilding.

The question which the FBI needs to answer is: Why did the ship turn to starboard and then steady up on a course directly towards the bridge supports? The ship had to leave the channel and plow through shallow water with a mud bottom but didn't slow very much while heading towards the bridge. Were the ships engines all ahead full at the time of the collision?

@@frankblangeard8865 It makes the full ahead thing factually incorrect, so it does not apply, and the reality is that many ships spend a portion of the time pointed at the bridge pillar and then turn, either for the purpose of making corrections or even because of how the channel works. But if your steering and propulsion go dead during this phase, the result can be a collision.

The liability of vessel owner(s) is limited to the ship's value once salvaged, no more. That's international maritime law, it will apply. Whether ship's officers and crew knew of problems is as may be, their ability to do anything about it is another matter. They don't make money decisions about maintenance.
