A graphics choice this simple isn't just about nostalgia, it makes the game more accessible because you don't need a supercomputer to run it. It also makes development easier and faster.
Should've mentioned that this game has coop mode. In fact, it was advertised as a coop experience when I played demo a few months back and it was extremely fun.
Even the NPC mouth movements are HL1-ish, I like it. I also like how the character talks like a Nerd who's just lucky to still be breathing. Like one of the Black Mesa Scientists decided to put his Engineering degree to use saying "EFF IT" and escaping. Thinks he looks cool in his own head, but everyone else hears the nerdy stuff he says.
I never thought of using a hallway as a base... with no doors... I used the security room you start in for a long time, then tried the room with the insane amount of cabinets, and the filing cabinet (huge storage)... but it was open at one end, and barricades can be broken. I have two tips, assuming it hasn't changed since the demo. First, there are tons of small storage containers throughout the facility you can just take and put down in your base, including med kits on the walls, and trash cans. The other tip is, don't drink directly from the pool...
@@baronjutter Maybe in the new version. I only had barricades... unless I just didn't have the recipe yet, or something. The barricade didn't last long against the dog...
@@nosoundnosound You can now create a safe area effect if a general space has lightning, heat and exits closed up. At least I haven't had this effect in a room until I build it up
Shared a booth with the publisher for this game at last years Gamescom. No gameplay on show back then so nice to see it here on splats channel after all that time!
Actually looks great. Graphics are simple but they're also well styled too. Great voice acting for a small team also. Definitely a lot of influence from HL1 in both theme and enemies, but also has that 'survival craft but with a paced story' like subnautica or grounded.
I think the accuracy skill is range-based. So your aim is stable at a certain distance, but beyond that distance, you'll still sway like hell. Increasing the skill increases the distance at which you'll be able to aim and shoot stably, indicated by the dot turning from red to blue/green.
Abiotic: "You can destroy things in the world with your crowbar, it gets you stuff!" Also Abiotic: "What do you mean break a snack distributor to get chips? that's stealing!" mhmm...
This video is the best introduction to this game, big props to Splat, it spoils nothing major while giving an excellent example of how the game starts. I bought the game and all I am willing to say is this game is a giant bloomin onion, the layers just get better and better, oh my KFC gravy. Gameplay wise: its like a survival crafting game that borrows heavily from im-sim games, combine that with a very Dark Souls approach and I mean that truly: the whole map is a big intricate playground full of obstacles for you to overcome; you're constantly unlocking clever new loopbacks and shortcuts. Almost everything you can find or make has a purpose, you have an ever growing toolbox. Also your exploration and cleverness are heavily rewarded, it's just a masterpiece.
This looks very interesting to me. I'm not a big fan of survival crafting games in general, but I do seem to make an exception when it come to these kinds of games that are situated in a, somewhat, limited space/area, like research facilities, space stations or medium sized islands. Also, I like when crafting game makes use of everything you can scavenge in a meaningful and useful way. This looks like one of them, and that makes another reason to be interested. And to top it off, I was always curious about how would survival game in HL environment look like, and was kinda hoping someone, someday would make something like that.
In survival crafters, maps are huge and usually devoid of content which makes traveling a pain. In this game the map is self contained where you can find or build shortcuts, in this game traveling is dependant on your knowledge of the facility and since the map is condensed where there are a lot of nooks and crannies to explore and find stuff, exploration is top notch.
holy shit, did that flashlight not only illuminate where the cone is but give off ambient light that filled the room as well!? never seen a game get the flashlight right before!
It's actually based on Half-Life. The developers enjoyed Half Life a lot but wanted a game where you play as a regular worker instead of the chosen one. So this game is basically "Black Mesa Scientist Survival Simulator"
I really like the way this game handles ranged accuracy. I think more first person action RPGs should use this system, it feels a bit more realistic and fair than having where you can aim dead on a target, but since you only have a 10% chance to hit you miss entirely.
Splat: "it's kind of humorous..." Me: "uh-hu, I'm sure it is" Splat: "...it's made by a team in New Zealand" Me: "oh...so what you meant was unhinged and ficken hilarious" 😂
More games need to do accuracy like this game. Kingdom Come Deliverance also does it, which is nice but like Skyrim or Fallout, that isn't the case which is a shame.
Power cell needed for that forklift, but you do need a energy brick to get to the next floor, thru a door in the offices place. Edit: More specifically, Left of the downed power line near that Npc hiding in the closet. 2nd edit: gotta exhaust the NPC convos, just power thru and it automatically get added to ur journal so you know where to go
If it were a government building everything would be on all the time, it might not actually work as intended but it will be on. In the first few years living in Australia the power grid was having rolling blackouts during summer heatwaves. They'd tell the public to turn off all non essentials and set the AC to 24C, but the government offices would have all the lights and the water features on.
me just about to watch the abiotic factor video notifications pops up saying an abiotic factor video is up visible confusion acceptance of binge-watching
9:58 No crafting out of chests? Did that change? It has been a while since I did the play test, but I thought that quality of life features was implemented. Maybe the chests have to be closer or touching.

Good video thinking of buying this. Can I save the game and then keep playing from where I saved it or do you have to restart from the beginning every time? If I play with my friend do we share a save or how does it work?
This game is very rough to get into. I literally spent 3 ingame days before even getting the food situation down, and then my crafting stuff just disappeared, presumably because it was destroyed during the night. Game doesn't really give much of a tutorial or suggestions for what to do even in basics.
This game gives me heavy Grounded vibes, mixed with something like Half-Life if I may. Definitely right up my alley, says it released on Xbox in April or May but haven't found it yet. 😢
Oh my god... they even sound like the Black Mesa Scientists. LOL! they made a POOPING minigame, truly PEAK gameplay. Welp, I'm already SOLD! Edit: it is also CO OP, 1 to 6 players.

It also has a lower end PC setting on boot-up

Probably a consequence of using Unreal and not optimizing it to the utmost
Unfortunately, the game is really poorly optimized. It honestly performs about as well on my machine as Cyberpunk which is unfortunate.
Talkin out you butt. Try and run this on a low end pc. Even a mid range. Go ahead.
Should've mentioned that this game has coop mode. In fact, it was advertised as a coop experience when I played demo a few months back and it was extremely fun.
i played it with 4 friends , was fun , you can specialise your friends for specific things or their preferances.
Same here with 2 friends. Already waiting for this game.
1 to 6 players as well.
Office setting and stapler stealing _requires_ a quote from Office Space. “If they take my stapler, then I’ll set the building on fire…”
Have you seen my stapler?
I love that Swingline actually made one after fan demand. Damn fine stapler though, I have one.
New map added. Press "J" for Journal was the tooltip when you picked up the map.
It’s great to see an open world survival craft game set in a new and unique setting. Like… it’s not a forest!😅

There is an upgrade for the crafting bench that allows you to craft out of all nearby chests

This feels like a mix of Deus Ex 1's rpg systems/inventory mixed with Half-Life. That's an enticing combination.
