Hey Everyone! Does this video clear things up a little bit for you? Also, I'm curious.... I've been experimenting with having music in the background of my videos. What do you think? Do you find it distracting? Didn't notice it?
I haven't noticed so far but don't find music necessary and often distracting at other sites. The repetitive music used bys many youtube channels is downright annoying. Tx for keeping things simple. Regarding all these different sketchup versions, well just follow the money. greed persists :(
With no plugins in Sketchup Free - the days I can use Sketchup is limited. Next big Windows upgrade, and Sketchup becomes much to expensive for my private amateur use to dabble in 3D printing and CNCing. Fusion might go the same route an otherwise beautiful day. FreeCad - even tough with a very steep learning curve and a GUI not optimal for a geezer like me with ageing eyeballs is what I have begun to dabble with. That one will at least most probably stay available.
I liked Sketchup Make, Sketchup Free not so much. I'm a guy doing woodworking and can't afford any of the paid versions. I've switched to Fusion 360 and couldn't be happier.
I've messed around with Fusion 360 a little bit. How do you like it? Sometimes, I find the parametric aspect of it really awesome. Other times, i feel like I'm faster in SketchUp. I especially like Fusion for 3D printing brackets and other parts.
@@Mastersketchup Fusion 360 has a definite learning curve and a different way of thinking. But overall, for woodworking design, it's more suitable. After I do my designs, I can make dimensioned drawings that go into the shop and I can work off them. Also, the ability to articulate parts like hinged box tops gives a real feel for what the finished product will look like. High quality renderings also.
@@JackMoskowitz so it sounds like you are saying it is worth learning F360 for woodworking, correct? I am a hobbiest (maker they call it these days I guess) woodworker and have used Sketchup Make2017 for my designs. I keep looking at F360 videos and it is a bit overwhelming. How long do you think it takes before you 'get it' with F360?
@@johncahill9207 It took me a a few days before I got competent enough to do simple models. But it took just as long when I was learning Sketchup. Lots of videos later, I've concluded that I can do so much more with Fusion 360 than Sketchup and I'm glad I switched.
This is video is so good but it still doesn't answer one thing: as a Sketchup Pro user, can I commercially use the 3d models downloaded from 3D warehouse that were made by other people? More specifically, I'm comic artist and I want to compose the backgrounds using models from the 3D warehouse? I will be modifying them heavily on a scene. Will I have copyright issues?
Can you have two versions of Sketchup pro installed on the same PC with a classic license? I currently have a license for Sketchup Pro 2018 and let the maintenance expire. If I reinstated that, I'd like to update to 2019 (There is a great extension which is currently only compatible withe 2018/2019) but I also really like some of the updates in 2020 layout. So I'd like to use 2019 for modelling and 2020 for layout on the same PC.
If I'm just a weekend hobbist that wants to build a sketch up of my futur shed for my back yard and maybe a little bit of furniture of the years is the old 2017 free version sufficient for my occasional use?
They screwed the free web version. Very clunky interface. Very limited. Thank you for the info on the older free version - Make. I just downloaded it and it's much nicer. The download comes with a trial of the pro version, but after the 30 says will revert to the free Make version, which if fine by me. I won't be needing any pro stuff anyway.
I have been using Sketchup Make 2017. I cant use 3D Warehouse with this version. Is Sketchup Shop the cheapest version that will have access to 3D Warehouse? I only use Sketchup once or twice a year when I want to make a piece of furniture for my house. Each time I need to relearn how to use it so it doesn't make sense for me to pay much for it.
Hi there Since you are asking, - I do find 9 out 10, or maybe all, music tracks on videos, extremely annoying. Even thou I am the type listening to music all the time. Please avoid music, especially in videos where you'll be talking as well. Cause then I can not just mute it! Best Torsten, Denmark. Ps: Luther Vandross thou, always works!
I appreciate the feedback! I go back and forth on this, as you'll notice I don't have music on all my videos. I try to keep it really low. There's a lot of data that suggests background music keeps people engaged, but it needs to be done right. But seriously, this is great feedback for me. I probably won't worry about music too much moving forward. We'll see.
The way Sketchup has gone over the years is shit. They've completely kill the hobbyist using it by making it £400 and new comers will only use the substandard limited functional web version All in the name of greed.

I'm old enough to remember the good ole days of Sketchup, really miss those days.
Music was good and not distracting.
Thanks for the feedback. RUclips has a library of free music to use, so I just picked something from there
A good instrumental music is good for this..anyway ilike this video

Thank you for speak english very clear and perfect. I could understand everything even with my english in progress.
I found this helpful, however, they have changed fee structure, as I am sure you know. Will you update with new pricing structure?
Really great video thanks. It seems like Trimble are bursting with bundles. I hope they are good at juggling.

I haven't even touched any of the mechanical relationship features like hinges and stuff. That's cool.

Nice, im currently using sketchup pro for my mechanical and architectural projects without any plugins
didn't you face any problem making holes with groves for nuts and other such mechanical components with complex holes along with groves?
Sketchup Layout is our forte
Clearly explained the topic,.. Thank you
If you buy the Sketch Pro Classic, can you buy updates after your year is up or say two or three years down the road?

Yeah you can. I have every version of SketchUp installed on my computer going back to 2013 I believe.
hi do you know if the textures that skech up shop and pro are usefull for rendering? are this just conceptual?
Great video, comprehensive and elucidatory - good job and thanks 👍🏻
Good overview thank you
will i be able to import dxf and/or dwg documents into sketchup shop?

You should be able to use 3d warehouse! I use it and download the models as a collada file
I am getting sketchup studio
What an unbelievable mess Trimble has made of this product suite!
Agreed. There is NO COMPARISON between Make and Web. Make used to be a fairly powerful design tool. Web is a piece of crap.
Anyone wanna help me as to how much Gb of ram ( and speed) and Gb gpu I’ll need. Thank you!
you need 8 but 16 is recommended.

Sketchup has become greedy. 30.000 dollars to keep Sketchup Pro for 10 years?!? And prices will go up. A joke

Absolutely agree. As a confused returning user from a few years ago, I'm just glad that Make is still available
Please dump sketchup and go to blender.
