Since I watched 3blue1brown's visualization of this topic before clicking on this video your explanation here has kinda helped me finally understand better how the visualization matches up with the way span is determined
Just wanted to say that this has to do with equivalences of row space! I watched this video a few nights ago to help with homework, and we’re actually going over this concept in class right now. This method also allows you to quickly determine if something is linearly dependent or independent, and allows you to easily find a basis.
tysm but as a side note once u know the span if a questions asks u to find a basis for the span, how do you know which vectors to pick if they are linearly dependent?

Can someone pls explain me why he stops after he finds two pivots? Didnt the pivots have to be 1? And all from the main diagonal have to be 1?

If your vectors are scalar multiples you can transpose your matrix and eliminate the column
