I completely agree with this review, especially with the final point. This car was designed to be a daily commuter with a sporty character. It was intentionally made not to be that "exciting", because if you use it as your everyday car, that will soon become pain in the ass. If you want excitement, you can tune and mod this car and you will be blown away.
Great video. I went from an f20 m135i to a 7.5 Gti, I thought I’d miss the pull but so far the only thing I miss is the soundtrack from the straight 6. In every other aspect i love the Gti a lot more. Great daily and enjoyable to drive.
NOT metallic red btw. If you knock the gear shifter to the left it locks the gearbox in manual, so the gears won't change automatically (which will happen if you don't use the paddles)
First time I heard someone say in a review the car is too good in every field that it isn't as fun as it could be! Which I understand, especially if you're used to driving something faster and more sporty!
If I wanted one car to do it all, then you couldn’t go wrong with the GTI. But after I’d driven it, I didn’t long to drive it again. I just found it lacking character, soul and excitement.
@@FastandFun I understand that! My last car was a Chevy Impala Limited LTZ with 3.6L 300hp engine (I live in the US now) but it's big, clunky and heavy. The GTI is a nice taste of home (Devon, UK). I appreciate a more rounded review of the car! Rather than just paid advertisement style reviews! Great job!!
i have a polo aw gti and its like a mini golf gti, love it to bits and in red and same alloys , only 17inch instead of 18 inch. will stay with vw now ive had my first, maybe next a golf gti or r
Yes, this has the performance pack fitted, so lifts power from 227bhp to 242bhp! I’d love to review a M140i but I need to know someone first that has one! 🤷♂️
@@jmc4975 when you tap DSG gear leaver down into sport it turns into completely different car. If you use switch on screen & use individual it’s even quicker gearboxes is more responsive accelerating & slowing down
@@jamesbrowne7601 I test drove a mk7.5 today and the DSG is an amazing gearbox! Wish we could get newer GTD or even the GTE here as I'm not necessarily a speed hooligan but I love the sporty economical cars! I can race around with other sports hatches but also getting great MPG's on the daily commute and long journeys is an all-rounder for me
@@jmc4975 Same here GTI is £4-9k more expensive than GTD & it’s more economical I only have to fill up once a month & can get 44 mpg on the drive to work but put it sport mode & it’s a completely different car. Plus you don’t hear the engine unless you have a window open

Great video!! I just picked my mk7.5 Golf GTI Performance last week and I’m in love. Such a great car

Maybe I'm biased but a mk7 tdi owner but the 7.5 is the best golf ever. Not the most exciting car great as a daily
Great vid - totally agree with the summary also. Good job I now have the Sunday car now 😉
Great video! And a great car! Is the extra cash for an R worth it?
Thanks - whether the R is worth it is very subjective but once you step up to the R you’re up against another level of car …. RS3, A45 AMG, etc,.
@@FastandFun very true that in the market for a 7.5 atm and trying 5o figure if the extra cash is worth it once you include running costs tax etc
@@Theferrariguy nice issue to have though. My brother runs a mk7.5 R …… I just need to get my hands on it for a review 👍🏻
@@FastandFun it is hah it'll be a few more months before I'm putting money down but I think I have to test drive them both to decide
The GTI is lighter and that makes it handle differently to the R. The purists like that. For absolute power obviously the R wins hands down.
Tornado red isn't a metallic. It's a solid colour 👌 😊
Remap these they make around 320bhp. That's going to transform it
Does this have the performance pack?
Also would like to see a review on a M140i/M240i if you can get your hands on one

Nice car quite a few with low mileage coming up for £28k Ive got the GTD version can’t complain but wish I waited for one of these
28k?! Can get them way cheaper
I had a mk4 TDI PD130 and it was a hoot, could keep up with stock mk4 GTI's after I got a remap! The diesel is a phenomenal car

Sounds like somebody needs to get themselves into a TCR or Clubsport S… 🤔
Love mine ❤!
