I'm an outlier age-wise here - My daughter intro'd me to Destiny 6ish years ago and we played together and then she quit gaming for 4 years to start a career, get married, have a baby etc - you know adult stuff. And now, at (her) 33, and me (60) she's back in Destiny, and we're playing together regularly again every evening after my adorable granddaughter is asleep. When I was a young mother myself I thougt gaming was a waste of time, but I've met so many interesting people, and gaming together gives us things to laugh over in a world where laughter is increasingly rare.

Quit drinking almost 8yrs ago. When attempting to rebuild my life I needed to find other things to do. It feels like you have so much time when you're not drunk most of the day & D2 helped me fill that. Obviously, my wife & kids were my main focus, but late at night, when I was alone & thinking about what a disaster I was, I needed something positive to occupy my mind. I dove into D2 head first. Joined a clan, started raiding, made friends, started our own clan. We still play every week, have met in real life & became real friends. My real life turned around too, stayed with my wife, had our 3rd kid & bought a house. Obviously many things went into turning my life around, but I'd be lying if I said D2 didn't contribute. Thanks your vids an articles over the years, looking forward to many more!

Your comment about playing Destiny with your son really hit me and i hadn't thought about that.
I started playing years before my son was born and he is now almost 6.
I let him play around on planets or the tower, riding a skimmer/sparrow, letting him run around and shoot things and he is getting pretty good with it. Ive been doing a lot of recordings of his firsts from blowing himself up, running around other people acting wild, and just all around trying things on his own. Its awesome to be able to share this with him.
He told me the other day, "daddy, im a good teammate. our teammates can count on me!". Yes you are, buddy. I love being able to play a game i enjoy with him and see him crack up when other people follow us around or emote silly emotes he hasnt seen yet. I love just being able to see his curiosity show in a different way that video games, especially a game like Destiny, can bring out of him.

I stopped playing during Season of the Worthy, restarted back in Shadowkeep and quit permanently when Season of the Wish started. The game has some of the best shooting mechanics the business and it's definitely one of a kind. I do love the game overall. And though I don't like what the game has become (an over monetized greedfest), I'd be a fool to think this game didn't have any positive influences in my life. I met some really great people while playing this game and have a lot of great memories. I won't be returning for The Final Shape, but I really hope it goes well for the sake of the devs (screw upper management)!

Over the last decade of destiny: I’ve gotten married, started a family of two amazing boys, finished two degrees, gotten very sick, taken a few breaks from the game, and made incredible friends over the life of this game. Destiny went from a coping strategy and addiction to a core part of my life it’s been a crazy journey and I’m still excited for what’s next. It’s crazy that you and other content creators and journalists have equally been in our lives as well and thank you for everything you do for the community and the love of the game.

Destiny taught me the value of patience and that doing things with people is so much more fun than doing them alone. It also taught me that not everything in this world has to be a complete or perfect experience and that sometimes it's ok to just let go if you're not having a good time.

    Destiny:
    both 1, and 2
Are the most engaged I’ve been as a player since my humble beginnings.
Always a huge halo fan. But no other game has even scratched the surface of what Destiny has brought to my personal gaming experiences.
The friends, the laughter, the camaraderie, and dedication, the deep lore, and the time invested.
Whatever comes of the future. Destiny has had an unequaled impact on my life and interests.
And will continue to until the train stops and Bungie flips the servers off..

Paul, you mentioned hoping one day to play Destiny with your son and wondered how old he needed to be to begin. I started playing Destiny two or three week after its release in September 2014. That Christmas, I surprised my son, who was 6 years old at the time, with a PS4. It wasn't a secret in the family that the second PS4's primary purpose was so that I could have a Guardian to play beside. 😂
Almost 10 years later, we are still playing. I'm pushing 50 now, and he is 16 years old. Yet, we both get so excited on a Destiny expansion eve, as if we were still wide-eyed children on the night before Christmas.
This expansion feels a little more special though. After over 10 years, he and I fly together into The Traveler's Pale Heart for one last battle in the Light and Dark saga.

There are little reminders in my life all over of Destiny. It coincides with a major career change and family life change. It weaved into every aspect, same way I feel about James Bond. I think a core memory of mine is beating Kings fall with a group of Raiders that we’re all told we couldn’t do it because we weren’t good enough. I went on to beat that raid 75 times after that. I continued into Destiny 2 and around the same time as season of opulence, I found my clan. Thank you! My experience has been very different than yours and at the same time very similar as far as the impact Destiny has had on my life over the past ten years. I do read all of your stuff and have a Forbes subscription only for your articles. I read your trilogy and I have the next book stashed and will read it at some point. I have even met a few friends that will probably stand the test of time. I met a lot of butt heads too. So yeh Destiny has had a huge impact on my life and I am happy to be here and part of the community.

The biggest reason I come back to ya Paul, is your character. I usually agree with most of what you say, but it’s your poise when it comes to fair criticism and controversies that I respect the most. You’re a great journalist! Aside from that, yea I’ve been here since D1 launch. My best friend died in that span, right around Caydes death. I love this game. Playing is cathartic to say the least, especially with Cayde coming back. Destiny just has that magic that you can’t really describe, something I’ve only felt with series like Star Wars and Naruto. You feel immersed.
Thank you for your videos and articles Tassi, the community benefits from smart, level-headed folks like you.

I remember trying to find out anything I could about D1 vanilla. You were the only consistent coverage I could find (on Forbes no less? Which I at the time discounted as not a serious place to find gaming info) but as time went on it became more and more accurate and useful and more useful. I appreciate your reporting!

Struggled a lot with depression and anxiety (still do to some degree), I worked a lot, every single day. So destiny became my place where my head got peace, and a break from all the hurt.
It means a lot to me! I have had times where I hated the game, like in D2 y1 for instance.
After all that, I still went and got a destiny tattoo next to my Mario, Zelda and kingdom hearts tattoos.

Been playing since I was 8, day one of D1… probably too young lmao but I’ve literally grown up with this game. It’s crazy how we barely notice the constants in life until they come full circle, but things like this that are just in your life are special. It makes life more fun, so idk regardless of how everything ends it’s been a fun journey and I wish everyone a good time!

The space magic of Destiny, the art, the music, the tone, the lore. There are times when it all comes together and absolutely pops off and in those moments it is the coolest shit I've ever played/seen.

I don't know when I originally started coming across your videos, but they are much appreciated. I remember falling off of Destiny because I completely disliked how infusion was back then, only getting a percentage upgrade way too much of a grind for me. Then one fateful day I got a message from my clan saying "come back Destiny is good now with the Taken King"

The thing that made me come back to Destiny (because I had reached RL burnout midway season of the witch) was the care put into not just into seasonal content, but Into the Light popped off (onslaught and pantheon were amazing additions) as well as properly told stories that kept the beat rolling without feeling overly campy.
Season of the Witch with its finale made me trust Bungie again. And all along for this ride has been a PT article or youtube video, engaging me the whole time. Thank you man, for all the work you have put in and being a steady voice in journalism for one of my favorite games. I hate it so much.

My kids grew up during this saga. I will ha e a daughter that's graduating this coming year. People making fun of others that are remembering lost guardians don't understand the impact this game has had. Many friends made, families grew, loved ones lost. 10years is forever as a youth, and the blink of an eye the older we get. Seems like yesterday my little man was playing my hunter and now he's a 15yr old blazing his own path on the football field. Much love to everyone our on this journey.
