This. Is. PERFECTION. I would totally throw money at something involving LeVar reading banned books to kids.
Yes! I loved reading rainbow, I hope he makes a RUclips channel or some service sets up a show for him to read to kids again, especially banned books. He’s so entertaining & does voices for each character.
@@TreebeardsHome he has a podcast
So, what's the name of Levar Burton's "banned" podcast. LOL!!!!!😄😄😄😄😄😁😄😂😂😂😂🤣🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣😂😂 Sorry, couldn't resist.
Levar Burton Reads is a great podcasts, if you're interested. Though, it's not just banned books or just for kids
This man is STILL my biggest hero!!!
This message is consistent with the message from Mr. Burton for decades now: to encourage a love of books and reading. Thank you
Mr. Burton indeed!
Global icon!
He will always be Geordie to me.
@@ForAnAngel In other words, "I need to be entertained"...
@@ForAnAngel Georgie was a nice geek hero. Mr. Burton is not so far from this.
@@ForAnAngel His name is Toby, I mean Kunta Kinte.
I miss you Mr. Burton you were there for me when I was a kid. And I wish the program is still around for my own son. Already ahead of ya reading banned books to my son. Govt can't stop me from reading to my own son.
Just so you know, Reading Rainbow will be back on the air this year. Unfortunately, LeVar Burton is not in it, but it is supposed to have a diverse cast of people, so perhaps that may be something you want to check out for your son. 🙂
LeVar Burton you were my first story teller I remember from my childhood. Reading rainbown was the only time someone would read to me and didnt not make it feel like a chore. I read beacuse of you and passed that love down to my children and those I have cared for over the year.
I mean, I watched this bit on the main video, already, but I'll watch it again because it's awesome.

Even “Mein Kampf” is not banned in Germany.... and believe it or not, this one is reeaally offensive. To understand this World view and to prevent events like the Holocaust to ever happen again, it should be read for educational purposes. Critical thinking is one of the most important skills in these chaotic and uncertain days.
That's like the one book other than the Bible these conservatives will definitely avoid banning...
I do share your opinion, but "Mein Kampf" is actually a pretty bad example as it was banned from being reprinted until 2016 so you could only get already exsting antiques. It was a little bit of a mess...
@@MMuraseofSandvich facts
@@MMuraseofSandvich nah, they’d ban the Bible too, especially since it condones abortion (Exodus) and those pesky left-wing values (the gospels). It’s also very anti-Trump (“Get thee behind me, Satan.”).
@@Chunkboi Conservatives in the U.S would also ban the bible, if they had their way.
I absolutely LOVE that they have this section with Levar Burton. I’ve been a lifelong fan- I grew up with Reading Rainbow and then watched him for years on Star Trek. Now he’s advocating building knowledge and understanding through reading again. Great job, Daily Show! Read banned books!
I love Levar Burton so much! He made a huge impression on me as a kid. I grew up watching Reading Rainbow and spent a lot of time in Libraries! Now I am a librarian who reads banned books! ❤️ 📚
Love this man!

Wait how and who dictates these banning? Can we have that segment?
Absolutely love how LeVar shows his love of books and reading!
mr. burton should read all the banned books and upload to youtube. i loved reading rainbow growing up.
Excellent idea!
I love that he is so him! And thats why he has been doing this for so long, authentication is the key! Keep pushing and teaching brother! Shalom ✌🏾 🌈
Here's a man who has done more than the grand majority of people in the entertainment industry to earn the peoples' respect. I'm glad to see Mr. Burton offer the proverbial "bird" to the thought police establishment and to urge free access to challenging and--gasp--potentially offensive (suibversive?) ideas.
Congratulations to Mr. Burton for his lifetime achievement award. His family is one lucky bunch.
Am taking his advice 😁

Instead of banning books maybe people should read books with their children. Then they could discuss them. My father did this with me and taught me lessons about kindness, honesty, decency. I am a faithful Presbyterian, but I learned more about real Christianity fro my father than I ever learned anywhere else. Miss you daddy.
Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us😚😚
Like perhaps the stark reality that these obvious fascists are making themselves look absurd, and hopefully this will inspire the world to de-platform them and they will no longer be in control of information?

I love Geordi LaForge in all his multiversal variants.
I love you, Mr. Burton! Reading Rainbow was sooo awesome!
Funny they didn't have the Bible, Cat in the Hat (yes, that book is banned in certain places) or Steven Orwell's 1984. Really funny since Rosa is on the shelf in the library in the elementary school that I work in.
I love him
Love the message
Just when we thought we couldn’t love Levar any more!!!!!
I could not love this more. Awesome!
Brilliant!!!
I didn't do well in school. In short, serious family problems.
I bought a GED book, read it and took a test to get into the military.
I dont remember which was which regarding a GED test and the military exam.
I scored 89% on one and 91% on the other.
The recruiting officer spoke to my teachers wanting to know why my school grades were so bad when I scored so well on those two tests.
Honestly speaking, they concluded I was insane.
They didn't believe that I read a book.
I learned a thing or two from that experience.
1.) Reading books gives me insane powers!
2.) The next book to be banned by Republicans might be a GED book.
A side note.
My mother suffered from many medical issues and died at 53. She was taking lots of meds.
I wanted to join the military for the GI bill education benifits to become a pharmacist.
I wanted to be a pharmacist to be knowledgeable about the meds my mother was taking. I suspected it was the meds causing her medical problems.
I wanted to be a pharmacist to save my mother's life!
I will never forgive my teachers or that recruiter for concluding that I must be insane and not believing me when told them that I read a book.
Faust by Goethe was a remarkable book that was banned and hard to find until I was an adult. Same with Ulysses by James Joyce. Two wonderful contributions to literature that were banned by religious zealots of their day.
OH MY GOSH! This is wonderful!
I *love* Levar Burton.
This was amazing. I loved reading rainbow can still sing the song to this today. Yes Read banned books
Homer Simpson: "It's so sad the way they hopped on Pop."
'Read banned books!' Like Mein Kampf? Okay.
Still love him.
“It’s so sad the way they hopped on pop.” -Homer Simpson.
Book banners obviously don’t know how kids work. Tell them they can’t have something and they want it more! And for that I am grateful. Narrow minded bigots shouldn’t be telling anyone what they and cannot read!
I am 75 and my mother told me that when she and her friends were growing up in the 1930’s the would look for naughty books to read on the Catholic Churches list of banned books.
Make this a permanent segment please.
Brilliant
Oof. Right in the childhood.
*This* reminds me of when I found out that I'm Single because 2 people of the same Gender in some town I never heard of _"ruined the sanctity of Marriage"_ for me.

Banned books are the best books.
We need more Levars in the world!! he still has the bright eyes when talking about books that he had when i watched "reading rainbow' growing up.... I CAN DO ANYTHING..TAKE A LOOK...ITS IN A BOOK...
Levar Burton comes across as the most likable person in the world. He should be a diplomat or something. He would rock peace negotiations the same way Mr Rogers rocked the Senate!
Anyone else hoping he was actually going to read us a story?
Yes.
Yes! I would really love a banded book series.
That why I clicked. I was hoping it was a new series.
He does have a podcast....LeVar Burton Reads
Absolutely! The nostalgia is real. I swear, every time I hear this man's voice, I am transported back in time. 📖🌈❤️
I've always loved Levar Burton's youthful wonder in the roles he's played (especially Geordie on "Star Trek"). Seeing him thumb his nose at intolerance is my favorite role yet!
Yah, Levar's da man. Coolest cat in ST and genuine, humane human being.
When the “police” showed up, that would have been time for the phaser.

And then he turns out to be racist and intolerant, himself. Such a massive shame.
Can't look and Geordie the same now.
They should put stickers on the books: "Banned in state of X, Y, Z". Nothing gets someone more curious than a taboo or something forbidden.
Our libraries where I live do have gold medallion stickers on the covers of banned books, embossed with the words “read banned books”.
I have loved LeVar Burton since he was in Roots in the 1970’s and in Star Trek TNG. He looks great.

Read banned books! 🤣
Amazes me how these Republicans, with their child like minds, don't get it. Tell people what not to read, makes them want to read it even more.
I'd read every book ban by my state of the US government by the age of 12. That logic actually applies to all things. No one ever didn't do something because it was illegal but nearly everyone eventually breaks the jaw because it's illegal.
Ironically they want to ban what people read but won't wear a mask in the name of "freedom"
@@CactusJack252 Well, not quite. Republicans don't want to wear masks AND they will tear masks off of other people who are wearing them.
You are way too optimistic about humans. Most of us don't like reading, unless it's as long as a TikTok.
@@CactusJack252 Masks are UNCONSTITUTIONAL AS WELL AS FORCED "EXPERIMENTAL CLOT SHOTS!"
How can so many people miss Reading Rainbow? It showcased all types of age appropriate books to kids. I was very ahead in reading...so I read stuff I definitively should not have.
LeVar and a couple other guys did set up a Kickstarter a few years back to bring back Reading Rainbow in a new format. The suits that own the copyrights/trademarks/whatever for RR weren't fully on board, and the project pretty much fizzled.
Businessmen ruin a lot of things in this world.
@@MMuraseofSandvich It's coming back this year. 😉
Read the bible
Nothing is wrong with the age appropriate books. I do not believe they would allow him to read one of these books that are being removed from school librarys though.
Thank you, Mr. Burton.
I am waiting for Maus to be back in stock.

Strange that the same people that want to ban books take their wisdom from a book they declared holy [and place it everywhere] but that one clearly not written with children in mind...
Really? Last time i checked, the bible is banned in School libraries but go on.

This is 1984 in real life. Except instead of burning books, the books considered divisive or causes discomfort to a certain group in the country are being banned.
Thank you Daily Show and Levar Burton. We all need to push back against these book bans! There is valuable learning being squashed in the name of small-mindedness.
I love Levar Burton.
One of mine favorites is "The Nativity" by Julie vivas

I'm white, but I believe Jesus, Mary and Joseph had some nice color.
I loved reading rainbow even though I was watching it with kids as it was past my time. Plus I really love star trek. This is spot on I saw it and knew that he must be outraged at the banning of books.
This was great:)
"It's in a book , so take a look..."
love this, those bible thumping fools will see us return to the days before medicine and the written words
And Tango Makes Three is one of my childhood favorites and I literally can't think of a reason for it to be banned other than straight-up homophobia. Maybe they should just ban every book in which any person has any relationship ever.
I randomly grabbed that book from the library for my daughter and it is adorable! I agree that homophobia is the only reason to ban such an adorable story.
Amen and I love you, Mr. Burton!!! 🎶 *#ReadingRainbow**!* 🎵🥰

Absolutely LOVE this message from the great Levar Burton ❣️ He's never given up on his Reading Rainbow roots that I grew up with
POWERFUL message!
My millenniums grew up enjoying Reading Rainbow (I was there enjoying reading right along with them 💯😀). Reading is almost as rare as a white rhino. When a book is banned, it's probably a book THAT SHOULD be read!
One has to ask why are certainly books being banned in the first place, what the hidden agenda of those who want to ban said books, and who stands to gain by the books banned?
Censorship? 1st amendment?!
Thanks for this Trevor AND LeVar.
I love this 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝 thank you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Levar is the best
Levar is the reason many people my age love books so much. Thank you for this message. If you want information to spread, ban a book. If a book is banned, read that book. Find out WHY people want that book banned. Arm yourself with knowledge.
Keep Reading people! DONT BAN BOOKS.

THE WORLD'S MOST UNDERGROUND AUTHOR. 💀❤☠
The banning of books only serves to hold us back from learning. It's one thing to have cautionary pretext on hotly debated political topics in books or books from the perspective of objectively horrible people in history, as that can help guide easily persuaded readers and support critical thinking skills, but banning books, and even burning them as some have suggested, makes us no better than the dictatorships and cults we usually oppose. Same goes for any form of media that can be used to educate.

Really dissapointing to see Burton behaving like this. While no books should be banned in a free country, these books should not under any circumstances be allowed inside schools or public libraries.

Can we admit they made a mistake and let him host jeopardy?
CCJJ160Channels they didn't make a mistake, he was,in my opinion, the worst of all the guest hosts. he talked to the contestants too long, therefore leaving unopened clues at the end of rounds. and flubbed his words on many occasions compared to the other contestants
