I watched a doc about an amish puppy mill and they'd stick metal rods down the dog's throat to destroy their voice box so it can't bark. They're an insular community, so they put on a mask when they interact with the "english". Also, disowning your child because they want to experience the world is messed up. I would say they're the opposite of "chill".
