  • Todays short episode is a test to see if the Spin Blades on the MD500 are what’s causing the wobble in flight.
I’m going to use the recently built Blade 550X and fly it with both sets of blades and see if the theory we have is the case.

Just a point of interest that comparing "regular 3d" pair of blades with a pair of scale Spin blades may not be a useful comparison as the narrow chord Spin blades are designed to work as a multi blade system (their two blade pairs are also wider in chord) the flex in the blades as intentionally designed while may be causing issues for you is not an automatic reason for the wobble.
However your intention to try other blades will be useful. As mentioned in your other video its possible you have a less than good quality set, although it can be surprising how well they might possibly be if accurately CG and weight matched....
Another possibility is because they are efficient due to the semi profile, model weight also has a bearing on things too - if model is quite light in weight for example along with head speed and hover pitch settings... great work on the videos 🙂

interesting vid, useful information for some like myself who is very new to the hobbie

Would you reckon it’s the FG vs CF that cause the wobble as I would thought the semi symmetrical profile would have more lift and thus would be steadier ?
Is there also a size difference between the two ?
I was shopping for semi sym but now you got me thinking hahaha

I think it’s the fibre glass and the size. The Spin blades are very easy to flex and 12mm shorter in cord giving less area over the blade compared the carbon fibre blades that are stiffer and wider cords giving more area and lift

      That make total sense
So if you were to found the same surface area but in semi sym and CF you should have more lift and a steadier one as well ?

You're comparing apples to oranges. like some have said before, spin blades are meant to be flown in multi sets. and also slightly faster than what it sounds like you have there. Spin blades are more flexible than 3D blades. and I do like NHP blades for a 4 bladed 800mm scale ship. They fly much better than a semi symmetrical 4 bladed set of the same size. Good intentions with your theorys and you are correct, but you can't compare the two and expect the same results. YOU WILL have all the problems you have.

I've had a few sets of SpinBlades and they were all JUNK. It really pissed me off because it took a LOOOOONG time to receive them, they were quite pricey and I'm in the U.S. Their customer service is ok, but you shouldn't have to deal with customer service if you actually make a good product. I have super cheap generic blades I've purchased off of eBay and Amazon that are of higher quality than SpinBlades' junk.

Yea I’ve not had blades like this before, I’ve always used Align, NHP or Azure blades but these came with the model when I got it and they just don’t tick any boxers for me at all.
