Very Heavy Transport

- The rotor from a generator at Calloway Nuclear Plant was sent out for refurbishment. The total weight of the vehicle was in excess of 700,000 pounds. One truck pulling and one truck pushing. 108 tires on the ground. When it came to turn North on Hwy 19 in Montgomery County, they showed to ability to steer by turning every axle of the trailer to make the corner. It was quite a spectacle to watch.

Been there done that 35 years. Over dimensional heavy hauler truck driver.
Have hauled it all
Everybody comments on the trucks, drivers, tires... I'm even more impressed with the engineering that went into the trailer. Incredibly complex piece of equipment there!
Take a look at some of Mammoet's specialized trailers/haulers (there is another name for them but I don't know it), wheels turn 360 degrees, each wheel is synchronized with self-powered with electric motors, all controlled with a joy stick and small console - flat out rocket science. Amazing.
A few years ago you could only find them in my home town in South Louisiana and I think in Michigan. If my numbers are correct they rented for 1 million a day cost 7 to 11 million and the insurance was ridiculous. Don’t hold me accountable on any of that except the rental fee. They drive by remote and are a German engineered marvel. Loureville LA is a small little town w 1 red light and some brilliant people. They’ve secured some huge gov contracts for boat building, innovative outboard motors and huge naval craft
@@andysmith8189 That makes sense, you're not that far from the Atchafalaya and the Mississippi and I-10 is right up the road. A lot of heavy loads travel by water, you're sort of in the middle of the country and oil rig equipment is heavy. I know those units can be separated into smaller sections and transported on normal size trailers so their low speed is not a problem. Only problem I see is your elevation, you're no that far above sea level and they don't float. Or do they, all those tires...
@@haroldwilkes6608Self propelled modular transporters and Schnabel trailers. No those are insane engineering.
@@ph11p3540 Thanks, mumbling that out loud will help me get a seat by myself at McDonalds. Insane, yes, but when you specialize like Mammoet does, the distractions go away and you can really focus on getting the equipment perfect and the job done right. Some of their moves would have been impossible even twenty years ago when house-moving was a very big project. A site construction company near me says "We move the earth" - Mammoet moves everything else. Do you remember when NASA's rocket transporter from 1965 was the largest in the world? Mammoet's equipment is smaller but could do the job, I think.
And thanks to all of the ground people and engineers and anyone involved in the operation. Everyone seemed very professional in their job. Looks like it went down without a problem. So again, thanks to EVERYONE involved in getting the job done!!!!

Thanks for the video. On Monday I need to pick up my first load and now I feel more confident
Bridge said, "UUNNF!! I'm gonna need to wear a truss from now on and forever. Next time skip the all-you-can-eat at the Golden Corral."
What a procession. Huge tow truck, parts truck, trucks full of engineers and techs. Highway dept bosses, Maybe the governor himself in one of those support vehicles.
A couple of F-350's could have done the job...Super Duty's, of course.

@Hello Thomas how are you doing
@@haroldwilkes6608 that’s what I thought also
I watched a similar load come into town here in North Georgia several years ago. A turbine for a power plant being shipped overseas. They parked and stored it several months at an old factory that wasn't being used. They eventually moved it to a sea port for shipment. They planned the move to come through Atlanta late at night. Arrived here about 3 AM. I got up to watch it come into town. Pretty impressive, but I wasn't able to get decent video being at night.
The planning alone was a monumental effort! Well-done gentlemen!
Right, drawbar and pushbar angles, bridge heights and curve radii not to mention high/low center and bridge/road load ratings problems. We had one snag on a railroad crossing in Florida en route to the Cape. They had to call Florida East Coast Railway and stop all rail traffic. Real mess.

I get as excited as a little when I see trucks working!
The concept is simple enough but it's still pretty wild to see it in action.
Damn, I saw those purple lights and thought Motor-One was about to 50-50 that intersection!
That poor semi!! Can you imagine the torque that triple axle beast puts out freakin incredible!!!
Most likely 605hp and 2050trq but the gear reduction on those trucks is insane, they have a gear reduction case like a transfer case, that they Nik name a two speed rear-ended, bigger than this trucks will have planetary gears on the rear axle, but those trucks can not go 60-70mph down the highway so they get trailered between jobs
I was expecting to see the tire rip out chunks of pavement.
@@cargotoolshop5319 Can't outrun a cop in a Smart For Two but could pull the Golden Gate bridge to Florida...Love those rigs.
Does the push truck not have all wheel drive for better force direction?
@@severinbaumann7086 I don't think the pusher "forces" any direction. It's sort of "In Tow" and the only force is forward, not directional. It only steers to stay in consistent sync with the vehicle being pushed.
Overall very impressive on every pnes part true definition of teamwork

Hey Mike, thanks for another real good in depth video brother. Looks like the companies or company your filming have definitely got the right trucks to do all the heavy loads. I said in another video that ir you dont have a Pete, KW or a Western Star pulling these loads, thats your first major problem. Some people and by that I mean your Wal-Mart CDL drivers, would say "all trucks are the same they just have different engines and running gears". And thats their opinion. And if any of you "drivers" out there that think hey thats something I'd like to do. It takes a very high set skills to do that kinda hauling.
Thanks Wayne. You are right on. I was really a great spectacle to watch.
@The Joker You really sound like a big dude , "joker". How old are ya, 21 ? Didn't your mother teach you to respect your elders and not interrupt when grown people, with heavy hauling experience of over 20 years, is talking. I didn't ask for or want your comment or opinion. But then again, kids will be kids. Grow up and one day you might be able to carry an orange flag to help with traffic control.
No idea how I got here, but glad I did amazing machinery, awesome display of teamwork and the sheer power of these beasts.
Easy when it all works, give or take about 350 US tons +/-- in weight, no flat tyres, rams or hydraulics, or other problems, getting angulation and turn radius swing right, that looks a good job done!!! 😉👍

Wow very well done I don't think I've ever seen something like that getting hauled. Biggest thing I've seen was prices of a wind turbine, back in Colorado I lived in the high plains. Basically high elevation flat ground so it was a prime spot for both solar and wind turbines atleast half of the days in a year had high winds which I hated but I did like installing solar panels it was a very good job.

The drag of that many tires on the ground making the turn necessitated that

I have never seen anything like it before. Made me wish I had stock in a rubber company!

I find it difficult to trust spotters. They never seem to stand in a place where I can see them and make all sorts of hand signals that don’t make sense. I still give them a wave of appreciation but I used my mirrors and windows mostly.
I would bet that an assorted few key people had radios, and talked the driver through it. As long as that thing was, I don’t think he could see half of the trailer in his mirrors after he started turning!
True mate. Waving arms is not helpful unless it's a clear signal that the driver can actually see! Been in places as driver, also as spotter where there's not only cars but pedestrians, bicycles and horses! Gets bloody hectic and it's a high trust situation. People who don't understand trucks can be unbelievably stupid!

He wasn't taking that corner wide, that's just as sharp as a Kenworth can turn.
I was thinking he was cutting it a bit but when I saw the trailer I was like shit he almost didn’t have to worry about the trailer at all lol
Right turns are wider left turns
You can only turn as sharp as the trailer will allow. Too tight on the lead truck will bend the$#!+ Out of the front two trailer axles,

This type of thing always amazes me. How slow and meticulous they have to be so that they don't break whatever the load is or have an accident.
