Hi Mike- I used a 4" Seaflo hatch I found on amazon - if you are creative, you can use the interior space in your kayak for additional storage / dry place for your phone-keys / etc too. Some hatches include a pouch also so make sure you browse online for other options. I'll add a link below for the hatch I used. Long term, I might get adventourus and increase the hatch size and see if I can get a smaller trolling motor battery mounted internally with hookup posts external for charging/etc. A big benefit of an internal battery is an even lower center of gravity and water protection too. Thanks for the comment Mike! Hatch: (4" Seaflo) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076T87Z8Q/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@TacoJoesHouse awesome thanks for the reply. I am getting this kayak by the end of February coming next year and i want to be ready to go with a my trolling motor.
Great video. Ditch the heavy battery and go lithium. I have a 55 amp hour life pro. Fits under the seat 1/2 the weight and lasts longer. Then the back can hold a crate. Also saves time having to take the battery in and out during transport or at least easier to move around. I also upgraded to a potentiometer. I had the stock switch and it worked fine but the versatility of variable speed cant be beat. I can hold in a spot against current. I do like your steering better than mine. I have an arm with a tiller. It works fine just takes a while to get used to. Its simple and out of the way so I guess ill keep it that way.
Thanks for the great diy. I just got a Outlaw and am planning on putting a trolling motor on it for next spring fishing as It really gets windy here in Cen Tex, at Belton Lake, Still house lakes and the many lakes on Ft. Hood.
Great setup. I like it. A lot. We also have the Perception Outlaws. Been looking for a transom mount solution like yours. I just wish I had all the tools you do to hook ours up.
Hi Chris / glad you like it / I've accumulated a lot of tools over the years - the one somewhat "specialized" tool is the bending brake / If interested, I got it at harbor freight for $50-$60. Thanks for the comment!
Hello Joe! Really interesting modifications. I had no idea it was that simple to remove the top of the motor and lengthen the wires to a switch made more accesssible to control the speed. I see may people rig pulley systems to steer the motor, but almost nobody does anything to control the speed and this was really puzzling to me... Can you provide more insight into the kind of switch that is? I am familiar with soldering and using blade connectors, but that switch is a mystery to me... also, can you tell us which cable (pins) color does what on the motor? Thanks Joe and happy fishing!
Hey Jimmy - twin bed dimensions are 38" x 75" so if we keep it simple, you need to reduce all shelving support width lumber 16" ( - ie - the shelves) from what I detail in the video (54"-38" = 16") - and - the bedframe obviously is narrower too - and - the "L" of the desk will also be reduced 16". I'd mock the desk up and make sure it will work out for your build but you have a lot of options and this configuration will easily support a twin bed. Thanks for the comment and good luck!
Is it possible we can get in context and you kinda give me instructions on what to buy and what exactly to do. I have the idea on how to do this I just don’t know what to get and where to start
I enjoyed your video very much. I have ordered the Perception Outlaw and would like to ask you what is the maximum width of the plate you added to mount your trolling motor. My yak will arrive in a week and I'm pre-ordering materials for my trolling motor build. Thank you in advance.
Great video! What gauge wire did you use to lengthen the control wires? Have you had any trouble with the the trolling motor shutting off due to overheating?
Awesome video, I have an Outaw and planning to do the same thing. How long do you get trolling with the battery you have? I'm kinda crossed between saving money for an Epropulsion, or just using a Minn Kota. I just want to be able to fish all day
Amazing. What size of hatch did you pick for the kayak the 4 inch our the 8 inch?

Sounds great so long as money isn't an object.. I have a 114ah deep cycle, not a problem whatsoever for me 🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@adammilan6434lithium also is known to break down and very violently when it die so. Ticking time bomb and anything can set it off.

Wonderful mod. Definitely like how you did this!
you could run sleeved ss rope inside the hull for steering
Great informative video ! May I ask what was the motor mount bracket thickness also is that aluminum ? Many thanks
I need to know that too !
Your garage is soooo organized.
Very clean and clever. I dig it.

Very Nice. Clean Build 🫡
Excellent video. No nonsense...straight to getting it done. I would like to see how well your steering worked. I guess you're using your feet.
Great video, I can see you took your time to do it right! Thanks.
Great job and excellent plan and craftsmanship. That mod turns your kayak into a different kind of Animal, as You so correctly stated
Great Video, Simple but well thought out!

Any idea of the range with that battery?
Hey I saw your loft bed video and wondered what the dimensions would be for that but for a twin bed? Thank you please respond soon

ingenious.
I like it I have same exact kayak
Did you use the swith you removed from head of trolling motor?
It appears from the video that he did. He cuts the red cap opening to accept the original switch. The round switch knob I believe is one he added.

U got a new subscriber , nw Indiana here and just bought an outlaw. You did an awesome job on the motor mount. What gauge aluminum did you use?
Is that the switch from the tiller 5”that came with the motor or an aftermarket one? I have the yak and my DIY controller burnt on the first tryout
Muchas felicidades muy bien trabajo
Great! Can you tell please model of you kayak?
It says “Outlaw” on the side, that’s probably the make.
Nice great job! Are you in Texas by any chance?
Thanks Julio- I live in the midwest but some winters I wish I lived in Texas!
Why did you choose to steer w/ your hands rather than your feet?
Genius!!!
Great video! What gauge wire did you use to lengthen the control wires? Have you had any trouble with the the trolling motor shutting off due to overheating?
Nice work but you could have cut another foot off the tube.
Nice video bro
Nice one 👍

I fished all day yesterday. I paddled all day, I’m 45 yo and don’t want to move today. It’s a great workout but reminds me I’m getting old
Mantap bossku 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻

Could ya build me that bracket and I’ll pay you
Idk looks too hard for me
Can you make me one
