This album is soooo good. Kai isn't necessarily one of my ults but I like him a lot, he's clearly very talented and he's so cute and sweet as a person it's so hard not to love him isn't it. R&B is such a good genre for him and even though he wasn't doing anything especially crazy with the vocals it really didn't feel like anything was missing he just did such, such a great job.

I think he put crack in that album cause I'm seriously obsessed especially Hello Stranger & Reason. Kai is my ult bias and maybe I'm bias but the album was definitely on of my top 5 albums of 2020. The only thing is that the songs are so short.
Aww I didn’t know Kai was your ult bias! He was also the first person in EXO I noticed for the same reasons as you. So glad he got to have a solo debut - the sound is right up my alley.
I went into this album with no expectations. But when I say my level for Kai beyond dancing and as a person was raised in 2020 (he also sings my favorite part in SuperM's 'Wish You Were Here' cuz his tone just hits the song perfect). The fact that I wanted to buy a physical copy. Every song. He will no longer just get the proverbial acknowledgement of existence.
I feel the same as you in expecting him to stay in a range comfortable for him. But he really snapped with this album. Like his vocals were absolutely amazing and beautiful. The songs where S-Teir no skips. As for my faves number 1 is hands down Ride or Die like the way it hits different for me. My second and third would be Hello Stranger and Reason. Though Amnesia could trade places with them depending on how I'm feeling. I'm really proud of him for this album and just wish they were a tad bit longer. But overall one of the best albums of 2020

Great reaction! I enjoyed it while listening the album, again, after so many times before lol. & I think what u mean by "innocent" is his tone is youthful. Even for a baritone standard, his voice is just sooooo light & bright. U'd even think he's a tenor until he descend lower in his range lol. That youthful & light characteristic is what gives his tone that "innocent" vibe. Sehun has this as well, except he's not light like him. Yet oftentimes he sounds even more "childish" than Kai. & I agree with what u said after that. The music industry are just so saturated with tenors & sopranos bcus most people always prefers high tones over lower ones. Which is a shame bcus they're so underrated & underappreciated sometimes. & in kpop, most boygroups are literally filled with just tenors lol. If they're lucky, they'd get 3 like EXO(used to be 4) but even that's a rarity.
He put so much work (and money) into this solo debut and I love it and I'm so proud of him!! And I'm expecting IMPACT with this release overall: the sound, FILM:KAI, the choreography, the styling. I can't make up my mind on which song is my favorite on the album. A couple weeks ago I would have said Reason is number one and then Ride or Die second, but the more I listen to Amnesia and HELLO STRANGER, I'm like I DON't knOW. I do have to say Nothing On Me is my least favorite. I still like it but there's something about it that doesn't hit the same way as all the others. Mmmh was the best choice for the title track and it's easily the song I've played the most from the album. Now... I do have a few things I don't like about the album though. 1) This is more of a ME and expectations issue, but I really wanted a full album for him, which brings me to number 2) It's so short! Each song individually is short which makes the album short as a whole. It goes by so fast and I'm a little afraid of overplaying it too quickly. 3) There isn't a lot of space. This is my biggest issue and is also something that I think contributed to how short the album is even if it IS a mini-album. I really wish there was more room between sections of the songs. I want to HEAR the instrumentals! There's barely a second that goes by where Kai's vocals aren't doing something over the music. I love that we're getting a lot of his vocals, don't get me wrong. I love the layers and adlibs- elements that stand out to me a lot with SM groups, and EXO in particular, and that's one of the reasons EXO is my ult group. But the bridge in Ride or Die is the longest amount of time the album has where the instrumental is showcased and the song gives us room to breathe. Every verse pretty much goes straight into a pre-chorus and then straight into the chorus, and the choruses go straight into the next verse or the bridge, on EVERY song. And it may seem like I'm going on about this and like I don't like the album, but it's the opposite. I have these critiques because I love the album so much and think the songs and album overall would be even better if there was more space.
OH MY GOD I can't believe it !! My story is literally the EXACT. SAME. I saw the same React video in 2014, went to look up Overdose, and the rest is history !!
Have you seen Film: Kai? It should be in a Museum. Simply amazing❣️ You should also check Mmmh and Reason dance practice. I kinda fell in love with him even more if that's possible and he's not even my ult bias 😂❤️ Btw, Jongin did say Baekhyun helped him a lot as to how to sing and adlib. 🥰
All of the songs are amazing. My favorite besides Mmmh is Ride or Die. Kai did his thing with this debut. There are no skips for me. And I do love the tone of his voice too. Good stuff. P.S. This album is amazing to listen to with headphones.
Karen, I know this seems off-topic, but have you ever heard of Gloria Groove? She's a Brazilian drag queen/singer who has a gorgeous voice and records some top-tier R&B/Pop. Her latest EP is called Affair (check it out!) and while I was listening to it, all I could think was "this is the type of sound Kyungsoo should have if he ever records a solo project". I think you'd love her!
I would like to recommend Hua Chenyu’s “Bullfighting” that was in his latest released 4th album. This song is amazing, he use music to describe the complete Bullfighting scenes. This song was also performed in Singer 2020 and he got No. 1 in the competition. Please do reaction video on this interesting MV.
Your introduction made me very interested in this song. I have heard the name of Hua Chenyu, and he is a very good artist in China. The unique and charming songs are very attractive. Can't wait to hear Hua Chenyu's song"Bullfighting"thank you.
Hua Chenyu is an incredible singer. The Bullfighting mv was mixed of robot & animation, and also the unique performance of Hua Chenyu, each audience will have their own feeling in mind It's great!
