Ive recently been going home and opening up youtube to revise and learn about these things as I am doing my GCSES. However you sir just explained how to do this within 1 minute, short and helpful and makes it easy for me to remember. Why did you get rid of the negative signs? I thought two negative numbers you add and keep the sign. I got -5. every little detail counts in solving algebraic problems. Alexandra can u share your thoughts on this one?
It's because to change a negative to a positive, you multiply by negative 1. For example, -4 X -1 =4. So since both sides of the equation were negative, he just multiplied each side by negative 1. This just changes the sides from negative, to positive.

Try to keep your 'x' positive, don't have 'x' as a negative, so instead just swap the sides of you have to!

You use -1 as it doesn't effect the the remaining parts of the equation, and it makes x a positive, which is what you are looking for in this equation

So you can get positive x. Always try to get positive X.
because -3x = 9 can be written as:
-1 x 3x = 9
3x = 9/-1
3x = -9
