Thank you for talking about readers being shamed for what they read. I'm 46 years old and I like reading middle grade books a lot. I get some strange looks and comments from people when I read them in public, and sometimes I feel ashamed, but I enjoy reading about kids! I've been a babysitter/nanny for over 30 years, and have always longed to be a mother, and reading about kids makes me happy. I can also relate to a lot of kids. (I don't know what that says about me, lol.) Anyways, I agree that we should read what we want to read and others should mind their own business!
I am in my 60's and read lots of young adult books. My nieces and nephews are advanced readers but are young. So, I read the controversial books first and decided if it is age appropriate for them.
I’m learning so much about the book world lol. When I first started watching book videos I was like why do people buy so many books at one time and now I get it. Once you’re done reading you need a selection ready to choose from if you’re a mood reader.
Powerless was a good book. I just really started reading more fantasy books and I am enjoying it a lot. No one should ever feel ashamed for what they read so thank you so much for saying that. If a book brings you joy while reading it then that is all that matters. Love the recommendation continue to be you.💯 Here for the short long whatever you do I am here for it. 💕
I teach Reading/ELA to upper elementary students, many who are struggling readers. I hate genre shaming! Most people don't read, let people enjoy what they want.
Loved the chat about the different purposes of books! I think I judged myself for a long time because I don’t really like character study/literary fiction/emotional/no plot just vibes books and I wanted to be like the cool girls. But I realized that I look to books as entertainment and escape and I want those juicy plots and twists to give my brain something to puzzle out. Also, I’m a therapist, so I think I’m set on character studies and emotions :-) Thank you for posting, love your videos!
It is beyond me that people judge love for book preferences. It's so deep because people be reading their favourite genres for reasons that could be a result of life experiences, mental health, trauma, healing and so forth. So not knowing someone else's story and telling them they shouldn't read certain books/genres almost disregards everything that has made a person who they are in that moment. I mean, book taste is subject for that reason 🤷🏾♀
I love both. I love long videos for when I’m busy doing stuff and I love your short videos all the time. You do an amazing job explaining books and have recommendations. Thank you so much for all those amazing videos ❤
Just read binding 13 over this weekend and I am OBSESSED 😍 I can't get over it. I'm borrowing it from a friend and thankfully will be borrowing the second book tm because I cannot be apart from this series I am obsessed!!
I feel like you’re always pretty open about the kind of books you like, but you also always have different options for everyone so, that message was a waste lol. I’m glad it only made you more confident! We love it over here. Anything you post I’m here for. 😊
Oh!!!! I fully know how you feel!!! A few years ago I read a popular book on BookTube and at Barnes and Nobles… it let me down in such a profound way.. I didn’t feel like it represented me as a black woman or any other black woman that I personally know… the book was “Queenie” Candice Carty-Williams!!! By “The Invisible Life of Addie Larue” is FANTASTIC!!! It’s literally a book that will always be a re-read for me 💕
Omg yay! I’m sooo excited to read it! I didn’t realize it was in the fantasy section but it makes sense with the storyline! I just thought because the midnight library is located in the fiction section it would be there. It was a nice little surprise!
I think you would like The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks by Shauna Robinson - small town feels, funny, there's some romance, cozy, and very minimal spice.
Love long videos they are so much fun. I get quite annoyed and sad when people put readers down for what they are reading. Reading is reading and it’s a personal choice as to what you like to read. My partner doesn’t read much but when he does it’s mainly true crime which is fine I’m just happy to see him reading. But when I tell him what I’m reading he ALWAYS makes fun or has nasty comments like that’s rubbish or crap I’m reading. It use to upset me a lot, but now I don’t bother telling him what I’m reading. Reading is my escape from every day life and I love it 😊
I totally agree! Im 50, and I struggled with the same thing. But age is literally just a number and I have come to a place inside myself that Ive decided that damn it, I am grown, I am not going to allow other people to dictate what kind of books I read or decide not to read. Im going to read whatever I want! You my dear can read whatever makes u happy, and remember, u dont need permission. From anyone 🎉❤😊
The perfume that you were referring to is not a perfume, and the reason why there are no notes is because it’s supposed to stay on your body and create its own unique fragrance based on your body if that makes sense. I really want to read binding 13 as well and I love these videos.
Great vid! I love your channel, it feels so safe and cozy. Unrelated note, can you tell us where you get some of your knitwear/outfits from ? You dress so cute 😀
I think that in Binding 13 Shannon’s height and her being so small is mentioned to emphasize the fact that she is malnourished and to show how all the abuse that she has endured is stunting her growth. I also think it’s expected for a teen girl who has been abused both mentally and physically all her life to not really have a backbone.
I just need you to know, Mrs. Shawnaci, I went out and purchased Binding 13, after watching this video! You get me in trouble with all the book recommendations, 😂!
That comment was so unnecessary! I am not the biggest romance girly but I love watching your content because of your warm and funny personality, and because I think you do a great job of talking about how books might appeal to people who have different tastes. You've convinced me to read Love & Other Words (probably one of my favorite romances now!) and Magnolia Parks, and I'm definitely going to pick up more books that you talk about. Book recs ARE personal, but I think you do a great job of talking about books in a way that helps us reflect on what we might like and dislike regardless of your final rating! Thank you for helping me broaden my reading and find romances that will be more aligned to my reading tastes. ❤
Good books are good books. If you enjoy it, that's literally all that matters. I'm approaching 40 and I love YA and enjoy some Middle Grade too. The desire to look down on people for what they enjoy says more about the snob than the other person. Use that energy to read more of what you love and leave people be.
I was waiting for your review of binding 13! Yay I’m so happy you like it I started it around the same time you did and I’m obsessed!! Just finished keeping 13 and it’s even better imo! Gibsie is my fave, he had me dying🤣 his book is the April release and I cannot wait!! 🤗🤗
When Shannon is mentioned as “small” I saw it as a way to hint at that she was being abused/suffering from malnutrition. Also there is 4 books currently (first two are about Shannon, next two are about her brother). The fifth book comes out this year!!! But she is rereleasing them since she was an indie author:). I just read Girl Abroad by Elle Kennedy and genuinely enjoyed it!! I’m too scared to start the off campus series since it’s super hyped haha
Book recommendations: Broken. Not a Halal love story by Fatima Bala. I love it haven’t seen anyone talk about it, it’s written by a Black Muslim woman! Such a good rec as Ramadan is coming up! I don’t see a lot of Muslim representation.
I like the Brown Sisters series a lot. But, I don't find them representative of the culture; maybe because they're based in England. Still very good books.
Yaaas finally! You picked up Binding 13!!! I’m so excited to see what you think! 🤔 The Deal is what got me back into reading after a 10 year hiatus! I loved it! Kind of spicy, but cute nonetheless 💜💜💜
I’m very tempted to get binding 13, I love me some OTH vibes. Do have any recs other OTH vibes for black girlies? I just purchased the brown series I’m looking forward to the fluffy spice. As for an author rec pepper pace has a book called 1954 it’s a cute clean romance that’s out of the box different (I mean all of her books are out the box different, but they’re on the spicy side lol)
I haven’t found one yet, but I’m still on the lookout! I feel like to have a one tree hill vibes type of book the friendships & relationships have to be the center and it has to give cozy vibes which can be hard to replicate! But I hope I find one soon!
I'm dying at this person's ridiculous comment. First, if they watch you, they know your taste so why comment that... Also, yeah, it's their issue. If they are that pretentious to not try anything else, bye 👋. You are amazing and the fact that there are such negative people makes me so frustrated.
After I finished Binding 13 I had to immediately pick up Keeping 13 and then Saving 6. I cant wait to read Redeeming 6 and Taming 7... Gibsie and Claires book is going to wreck me... I cant wait!!!

I really liked Addie LaRue! But it dragged a little in the middle for me and felt like it could've been shorter. But arguably that complements the book's plot/theme lol.

Hey beautiful lady❤❤ why do people leave comments or watch a channel that talks about books or genres they aren't into? Then they have the nerve to talk to you negatively about what you love, they love what they love and thats OK Noone cares lol, anyway keep the reviews coming lady. I love whatever you talk about. So glad you like Binding 13! I still need to read it 😂. Allie Hazelwood does the tiny thing too. Book genre haters are the worst!!! Your comment really warmed my heart. I think it is absolutely beautiful that you love to read middle grade books. ❤

Many Lives of Mama Love is incredible. I read the book in two days and passed it on to two other friends who also binged it in two days.
Silent Fan, but here to say I would love the longer videos from your chanel!!
You have to start reading Lucinda berry books. Her books are thrillers and her writing is really good. She has a new book coming out soon too.
Omg I love her books so much! I’ve read saving Noah and appetite for innocence so far!
