So glad you enjoyed the cast! It's been super fun playing and balancing this mod over the past year and a half, and I'm glad the balancing turned out to really work out well in the tournament. The largest mistake eggz made was not getting the reviler and xayathoan upgrades... there's an upgrade which increases the duration of xayathoan spells by 150% or something, so he wouldn't have to drain his energy so much on the xayathoans if that upgrade was researched. We have another tournament this fri/sat depending on if you're on SEA or EU/NA if anyone reading this is interested in playing in that.
The Aegis bubble shield at the end is basically just using its own shield hitpoints but expanding it to include the local area. You can see the roamers/mendlings also dealing damage to the shield while standing right next to it, usually, the shield lasts longer but was being grinded down by the entire Xayid force.
this is so sick. very well made. i was skeptical when i saw the first race being "just mech terran" but the extra resource with the power alone made such a difference in the personality of that race. brilliant idea. kinda want's me to see all kinds of race specific resources. maybe use your own units as a resource or even ground as a resource. a little like creep spread, but it generates something for you per tile. when sc3 is coming and it's an rts, i want these guys in it
I remember workshopping a race that was based on a mystic, shapeshifting slime which did some things like this. The main gist was that it would convert all consumed resources into a generic "Substance" that was the only thing its units/structures would cost. Any units created could return to the town hall structure (the Nucleus) to reconstitute themselves back into Substance. There's a lot more going on and it's heavily WiP but i thought that sounded like something you'd be interested in.
If I've gathered anything from Warcraft 3 it's that you always want 4 races if for no other reason than the 4th is there to take the heat as the imbalanced one :b Joking aside I'd be interested in the lore implications of additional races, in this instance Terrans have used robots for quite a while but as far as I'm aware never fully autonomously which could mean some interesting stuff like they're rogue or a prototype of sorts, that sorta thing, it's probably also one of the few cases where you could get away with an additional race too other than different flavours of already established ones? The race is very cool though, so much love and care has been put into it but now I want a Wings of Liberty campaign mod with them to see what nutty things they could do when PvP balance and toe stepping isn't the focus :p
Is love to see a lot of new casts of these. They are very fun looking factions to watch. One intresting thing to note about them is that whilst they all have a lot of single target damage, i think we only saw 2 splash damage things in this. 1 is the shock drone, which seems to be half storm half EMP (storm being one of the best designed splash options in base starcraft 2, close to parastic bomb) and the other is of course the spitter with there dodgeable projectile (like the disrupter if the disrupter was a good unit). Whereas in regular starcraft, you get tons of splash, and very sudden splash at that with EMP, banelings, widow mines, siege tanks, collosi, aforementioned disrupters, storm, and parastic bomb, and fungal. Those really define a lot of gameplay, and can be incredibly frustrating to play against (glares are widow mines and disrupters). Without the large amounts of sudden splash, the armies do seem to ball up more, but there is still enough splash that proper splits and pullbacks can be rewarding, without the frustration of clicking on your production for 0.2 seconds and having half your army disappear. Still have to face the regular starcraft races and deal with the splash, but that dichotomy of high single target, low splash versus low single target, high splash means that even when superficially similar, the armies are still incredibly distinct.
there are more splash type units in the scion races, they're just not as intuitive as with the main 3 Genetron has the Tesla (as you mentioned), but the Inciter also does splash damage vs ground; there is also the Jupiter with its Revenant bombs. For air, the Boar's dash ability deals area damage. I don't know much about Xayid tho so no comment on them. Keiron has the Crux (with its Convergence spell especially), the Myriad (its Elytra deal area damage), and the Harbinger (in Judgement mode). There's a few more i'm missing but yea
That was very refreshing. Wouldn't mind the occasional Scion cast in the future. I also thought PiG explained the mechanics/units well despite the nearly non-stop action :)
If you want to play this MOD go to Custom game --> Create with Mod --> search for "SCION" --> ENJOY | UPCOMING TOURNAMENT: ScionCraft Skirmish #1 challonge.com/90ubintz
I wonder if the person who made the Genetron race was inspired by Zero-k. There is the obvious comparison that Zero-k units have a very mechanical design and energy is a resource spent on things like increasing your production speed or mineral income. But also how the generators can cease their production for a defense bonus like Zero-k's solar panels; and some of the units have pretty clear parallells. For instance the Mole functions like if the Bulkhead was dropped into Starcraft, and the Torrent is pretty much a hybrid of the Crasher and Fencer. Or maybe I've just gone insane from to much Zero-k and not enough sleep.
Man this is really nice ! I love the crafting behind all those races ! Really well done ! This must have taken so much time to do! Kudos to the team behind this !
I would really like more scion content! I would also love a video that just breaks down the factions, their strengths and weaknesses, your predictions for how they might develop, etc. Maybe even a bigger discussion about what makes a starcraft faction fun to play or play against? Maybe you could use your clout to get some insights / interview with the mod-maker? Thnx for casting!
This is really cool, the combat mechanics make the micro so interesting e.g. attacking faster overtime, buffed first attacks, abilities with cooldowns and energy costs that affect move speed and base attacks. so cool
Seems pretty cool. I probably just cant really tell from watching 1 game from each race but it would be nice to hear more about how the race plays overall as all you really covered was how each of the units work and how their structures work. Each current race kindof has their identiy. Zerg want to surround and swarm with overwhelming numbers. Protoss has expensive powerful units. Terrans have crippling autisim. What is the 'race identity' for these new ones?
Genetron are power hungry, Xayid have the most casual macro ever so their units are sweaty tryhard micro to compensate, and Keiron relies on _mad_ buffs/debuffs.
It would be so cool if the person developing this got hired by FG or the ZeroSpace folks or something. That's what Valve does, I think its really cool.
You can do. Start a custom lobby with "create with mod" and search for "scion". You can select a random race from either the original 3, the new 3, or all 6; or a specific race, if you prefer.
these fake factions for a starcraft mod still are more interesting visually and mechanically then anything we've seen from the two "starcraft successor" RTS's
THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!! all through the galaxies, the universe. literally everywhere... and theres only 3races??? nah this is a blizzard miss.... they should have contracted this and added this to the game. psh easy ass expansion to SC2 or even a prologue to SC3. mengsk dead now we have a new front to fight. Amon dead.... other races showing up now that the dark one is gone. so they can claim and spread.... etc these races are sick
These are like evolved old 3 races. That's ok, but I want to see something that's not based on old races. Like a bio race with "normal animals" - tigers, monkeys, birds, etc. Gray aliens like in Stargate - the Asgard. Maybe borrow something from Sci-Fi movies. I like the book (NOT the movie) "Battlefield Earth". The races are very well described.
@@PiGstarcraft Man, Zeeeelots, blast from the past! You sound like Artosis ... yesterday. I will never understand how a man who cast SC2 professionally for a decade never cracked the code on how to pronounce zealot. (Also, Aegis is pronounced eejis)
Mechanics aside I think these races fall into the same trap the ones I've seen from Stormgate and that other kickstarter do. They're not very cool. They don't have strong visual or play identities. The names of units and buildings are pretty dull. I'd argue a big reason Starcraft and Warcraft got as big as they did was because they were cool on top of being mechanically impressive. The factions all have strong visual, narrative, and gameplay identities that fit together great. These races have potential here or there but a lot of new RTS factions just fall short of the mark. I reckon the difference between a good game and a classic game is when gameplay matches game feel so well you get drawn into it effortlessly just looking at it. I'm not feeling it from the new blood.
Fair enough. I'm still bloody impressed this was mostly built by a few volunteers though haha, keen to see the new Xayid visuals once they get unique skins rather than just spliced zerg

I've heard about it but never took the time to play or watch it before. Now I did and I'm surprised and impressed. It is literally new and exciting to me.

oh shieet that extra Xayathoan spell duration upgrade would have been massive
I feel like the unit names could use some work. If you want people to cast/discuss them they should roll of the tongue a little bit better haha.

This guy: Hold my beer!
Game seems fresh for the first time in years!!!
I was scared because the shield batteries died so fast but it turns out that those units were quite the glass cannons.
The Ward is a unit that really, _really_ wants to be stacked with Fuses. The extra shields you can grant it are insane.
In terms of race’s overall design, really reminds me of Total Annihilation.
Hooray for mods! Would love to see more.
As long as each new race gets its own campaign where they swoop in like the Millennium Falcon at the key point in the battle.
