Make sure that the destination for the port you are forwarding is pointing to your ASIS router or if you can setup your ISP router to bridge mode to assign your ASUS router a public IP address that would work better for your.
This is great. It would be helpful if you can demonstrate how you benefit/use the port forwarding. If we can see it in action we would understand better its functionality. How does the port forwarding used when accessing emote desktop.
In the the video example to access the workstation 192.168.50.47 from an external location I will open remote desktop and put in my DDNS name that I would of setup with noip.com with the port number 11000, for example, in remote desktop I will put in diytechtips.ddns.net:11000, and that will connect directly to my laptop on my home network behind the ASUS Merlin router. Hope that answers your question.
Hello I set the ports on the asus router howerver my ISP (UPC) modem doesn't support port forwarding( that's why I got the asus router in the first place) and I think its blocking the ports when I go and test them. Is there anything I can do ? Iam trying to port forward few port for league of legends beacuse recently iam getting bit of lag
The other thing you can do is to have your ISP modem set in bridge mode which will allow your ASUS router to have a public IP address assigned to the WAN interface on your ASUS router, that way you will not have to bother with setting up port forwarding.
Yes you can add that exception. There are 2 places that you can do that, you can log into the Skynet application using SSH with Putty and you can add the exception in the Skynet menu and secondly, you can add the IP or website under AiProtect and Malicious Sites Blocking where there is a Manage white list in the Details of Successfully Protected Events section. I would add the IP or DNS name o the website in both locations. Hope that helps!
You are running the ASUS behind a double NAT. Not recommended, however if you cannot put your ISP's modem/router combo unit in "modem only" or "bridge mode" its better to put the ASUS in the DMZ.
My router is behind double NAT, correct, if your ISP allows you to do bridge mode on their router then you do not have to use port forwarding as your ASUS will get a public routable address which will allow you to bypass port forwarding to configure VPN or access resources directly on your internal home network. Using NAT (double or single) behind the ISP's router minimize the risk from an outside attack as only specific ports are being allowed and you would be using multiple firewalls (ISP router and ASUS router) to form a defense in depth protection approach for your ASUS router and internal network resources. Hope that answers your query?
@@diytechtips247 And fairly easy to do. The hardest part is knowing the app and the ports and whether udp/tcp. Two routers worth of port forwarding later, successfully running TeamSpeak 3 server on my machine.
i am having some problem. I am trying to portforward with my device ipv4 adress but my server wich needs the port uses my default gateway. Any idea how to fix that?
Is your ISP router in bridge mode or it is in router mode? By default the ISP device is in router mode so you will have to make sure that you have a rule on the ISP router that will forward the port number from the ISP router to your router and then on you router forward the port to your internal device. Make sure that you internal device gets s static address otherwise when the router is rebooted it will get a different IP address. Hope that helps!
It is not dangerous to port forward. Just make sure if you are doing it that you only forward specific port or ports that is absolutely necessary and nothing else. The firewall will block any port requests that is not explicitly allowed
Is your ASUS router connected to your ISP device? If it is you will have to do port forwarding on the ISP device unless their device is in bridge mode which will give your ASUS router a public address.
Well it all depends on your router setup. If your router is at the edge of your network then there is no need for port forwarding but if the ISP router is at the edge then you will have to do port forwarding.
Thank you! I've been struggling for 4 hours with this. FORGOT to take ISP router into account
I am glad that this was very helpful for you.
Thank you so much ! I forgot I had to do the configuration on my huwaei router 🙂
I am happy you were able to get it to work and you saw the problem.
didn't help with Deluge client and asus router. checked in PortForward program and it says your port is not open or not reachable, still.

if the firewall on the asus router is blocking connections, how do i specify that i want to let them through without disabling the firewall?
Yes you can add that exception. There are 2 places that you can do that, you can log into the Skynet application using SSH with Putty and you can add the exception in the Skynet menu and secondly, you can add the IP or website under AiProtect and Malicious Sites Blocking where there is a Manage white list in the Details of Successfully Protected Events section.

What is the maximum number of port forwarding rules my pldt router has a max of 12 but we need more so I'm looking at other option
You can use the port rage feature. This allows you to group port number in batches.
Hope that helps!
