Hey there Lori! You don't need any kind of special sewing machine. All you actually need is a pressure foot that allows free motion stitching, and very important, you have to lower the feed dogs. The feed dogs are those teeth-like things that emerge from the plate of your sewing machine. Lowering them allows you to move your material (paper) all around, not just going back and forth. I don't quilt at all... I just stitch paper, books and well yes, even some fabric every now and then ;-) Stay say sweetheart
