I am not an Eastern Orthodox Christian, but I am very thankful for Father Herman for doing all he could to help protect, love and have care for his Native Alaskan children of Kodiak Island and to the rest of Alaska. St. Herman had help defend the rights of the Kodiak Natives against the cruelty of the Russian American Company that were not treating the Alaskan Natives very well, without Father Herman the Alaskan Natives of Kodiak Island would all be gone forever, but Father Herman came to exist and he saved the Kodiak Natives to preserve their cultural heritage of Alaska and he gave them the Russian Orthodox faith to help save their souls. Someday I will visit Kodiak Island and to give my respects to our Kodiak Natives and to Father Herman as well, god bless!
When I came home to the Orthodox Church, I took Herman as my baptismal name. The Alaskan saint was (and still is) a monumental inspiration for me as I dig deeper into my faith. I love him so much and pray that I will get to make this pilgrimage in the near future. I hope to go next year, God willing. Saint Herman of Alaska, pray for your children in America and abroad! +
I so hope to visit one day. I grew up in Juneau, but knew nothing about the Orthodox church or its role in Alaska's history until I converted at a Greek Orthodox church in Hawaii! Given the cost of travel, it may have to be a post - retirement goal (not in the near future, sadly).
Heard about the pilgrimage at the Russian Orthodox Church Mission in Eklutna last week. Hope to make it some year to Spruce island. God Bless...……… Jessica Strother
May the Orthodox Christians of Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Finns, Bulgarians, Romanians, Moldavians, Greeks, Turks, Serbians and the Orthodox Christians of the 3 Baltic States come to Kodiak Island to visit Saint Herman of Alaska.
Also may both the Coptic Orthodox Christians of Egypt and the Syrian Orthodox Christians come to Kodiak Island to see Saint Herman of Alaska. God Bless!
And do not forget, St. Peter the Aleut from Alaska who was a teenage Orthodox Martyr of San Francisco in 1815. Father Herman heard the tragedy of Peter and he said "OH OUR NEW MARTYR PETER, PRAY TO GOD FOR US!" as Herman cried for Peter. We will never forget Peter as one of Herman's Native Alaskan children, god bless.
I travelled this august 2023 on pilgrimage. It was so wonderful and very much touched my soul. The efforts of the local cathedral to give a good experience cannot be understated. The liturgies, the akathist to St. Herman, the banquet and the hospitality of the clergy and parish are hardly mentioned and was wonderful! The orthodox in Alaska are poor, please consider giving, praying and supporting the orthodox in Alaska, especially this wonderful population in Kodiak. I will forever be blessed.
we are preparing a video for Peter the Aleut we are looking for listening the troparion of Peter the Aleut in his language in RUclips we didn't find anything can you help us??
I’m not sure how far along you are on your project but be aware there is controversy over the historical narrative of Peter. A great many facts, locations and events are either unclear, disputed or suspect. This is difficult to acknowledge but …
Unfortunately, there is a lot of controversy about Peter the Aleut within Orthodoxy. No one knows where the “events” occurred and there is zero evidence that sort of torture ever occurred in the California missions. I’m Orthodox and on a side note, I was shocked to see how many Alaskans and Russians jumped ship in California and willingly converted to Roman Catholic due to mistreatment by the Russian-American Company. These records are available online.

Alaska is the open door for Orthodox Christianity.
Я русский. Я не знаю языка английского. Побывать бы у вас.

I cried for the tragedy of Peter the Aleut, and may he live in our hearts and souls forever.
Russia might have Kodiak Island just like Kaliningrad and the Crimea.
I pray that more people would embrace Christ and embrace Orthodoxy; the faith dilivered once and for all to the saints.
After St. Herman came Father Gerasim Schmaltz. He was special to me in the mid-40s, early 50s.
Christ has risen! Greetings from Costa Rica!

Absolutely beautiful. Makes me want to visit!

Great video. Good for Christians. As I have gotten older. I see there's no other important thing. Besides 're enforcement of traditions.

I left this shit 25 years ago
In 25 years later you're coming back to it.
And yet here you are which must mean you long for orthodoxy in your soul
...hence you sound like a hostage.
