Many years ago I had an immense opportunity to listen the live concert of Red Army Choir... They blew as away, the huge auditorium for 5000 people was completely full and their unbelievably powerful voices filled every inch of it... We were told beforehand that microphones and amplifiers would not be used as completely unnecessary... How true!!
@karabakh88 Thank you for this information. I have been trying to find examples of US and Russian relations prior to World War One. During the American Civil War, Russia was the one country that stuck by the US side, even sending ships to help patrol the US coast.
There was a guided missile carrier called the Varyag, made in Nikolayev (Mikolayev), Ukraine. It docked in San Francisco when Medvedev came to the United States. It's a really nice ship and I was very surporsed when I heared it docked. Long Live Russia! Russians = First white settlers in California.
I know about Varyag heroikal deed. That was in 1904 near Korean port Chempulko. Varyag and Koreets was blocked by 14 Japanes sheeps. Japanese command make offer to show white flag, but our mariners declined that offer and join in the battle. Was survived a little of all complement. After fighting Japaneses salutate to this heroical wariiors.
@Kalinin1917 Sailors of Variag have fought like heroes, but I think that Russians, especially the generals (Kuropatkin, for example) have prefofmed very poorly in Russo-Japanese war. Defenders of Port Arthur were also a heroes, but I think that czar and general Kuropatkin are the most blame for defeat in the war.
Interesting fact about the ship that she was built in Philadelphia and then purchased by Russia. Sad fact is though that when recently historians investigated the battle, they learned that during the battle Varyag did not score any hits...
This heroic act of Russian sailors became known throughout the world. Inspired by the feat, the Austrian poet Rudolf Greinz wrote the poem “Der Warjag”, published in the German magazine Jugend. Already in 1904, this poem was translated almost word for word into Russian by the poetess Evgenia Studenskaya. The text of the poem was set to music by the Russian military musician Alexei Turishchev, and already in 1905 it was first performed as a patriotic march at the gala reception of Emperor Nicholas II, given in honor of the heroic crews of the “Varyag” and “Koreyets” who returned to their homeland.
Varyag and gunboat Korec have been blocked in port. Japanese wanted that Varyag has left port about what have informed капианов 4 countries (Italy USA England and France)Three have told that will not leave port and will not admit battle in a neutral territory. Аmerican captain has refrained. After fight where Varyag and Korec battled against 6 cruisers and 8 destroyers.
@odalrich he came to the silicon valley because he wanted to check out the high-tech hubs we have, and he will try to make one in Russia. So I have heared.
@unserdeutschland While you're Deutch - you must know more about Herr Breitenbach which saw that battle being then a young German Kriegsmarineman and how it changed all his life.
@aldrickbarber35 " settling is different than exploring" How true, then after exploring California, the Spaniards became the first white settlers there.
After fight caused to the big loss to Japanese the ships have returned to port. Bailey, the commander of the ship of Its Majesty "Talbot" (England). Borea, the commander of the ship "Elba" (Italy). Senes, the commander of the ship "Paskal" (France). Have taken on the ships of Russian sailors. When they have sunk the ships."Vikcburg" - the captain of the second rank Marshall has refused to accept wounded men aboard. Do conclusions about heroism and disgrace (american ship)
Some time ago, I argued with a guy (aldrickbarber35)for something that had nothing to do with Russia's heroic sailors but with the preservation of the National Heritage and European settlements in California; at some stage, the discussion reached the proportion of a verbal scuffle; we both were accountable for this mishap so why are you drawing my attention on this issue when the other guy was also involved in the discussion? I haven't seen any post addressed to him.You should be more equitable
@odalrich KREPOST ROSS' (aka Fort Ross) Medvedev gave us some money to restore it. I have never heared of you Spaniards giving some money for restoration of the cali missions. The Russians may not have built so many, but they help us restore their old fort. By the way, i ain't Russian.
@aldrickbarber35 " Russians = First white settlers in California". ?!?!?!?!? The first European to explore California was João Rodrigues Cabrilho, in 1542, sailing for the Spanish Empire. Spaniards were the first white settlers in California, not the Russians. In that year the Russians didn't know the difference between a horse and a ship.
Your commentators know very little about music; there is no Western military music, German music being much different from French. Russians are the only ones to have solist singers and to use cord instruments instead of brass. Germans sing multi-tone and their songs always have a Trio. Besides, the most joyful melodies talk mostly about death - or girls, that's all the same to me.
@aldrickbarber35 I think the Russian president needs investments from Silicon Valley, that's why he's licking the ass of the Americans. The Spanish taxpayer has to take care of the heritage left by Iberians, Celts, Carthaginians, Romans, Goths, Visigoths, Arabs, Moors, etc, etc; so I take for granted the US can take care of its own heritage. By the way, I ain't Spanish- though I pay my taxes in Spain.

Sorry, Mr. Kalinin1917, but the picture at 1:30 doesn't show Kpt. Rudnev! It's Admiral Sinowi Petrowitsch Roschestwenski!

"In that year the Russians didn't know the difference between a horse and a ship." Nonsense. wikipedia. org/wiki/Rus%27-Byzantine_War only ships.
Thank you, thats an interesting information, I dint know that.

God bless imperial Russian navy ...Rip
Rather ironic, a song written by a German about a Tsarist battle against the Japanese sung by the Red Army Choir!
Why did red army choir sang for a imperial captain that fought in a war that Tsar led?
Scottland, if you mean one of the last pictures.
I think that you judge those western songs too harshly :-) But I fully agree with you about the uniquennes of soviet/russian music.

It was a protected cruiser or a cruiser first class. The cruisers were classed differently before the World Wars
