You are in a Cessna. You are in the air. You have an engine and propeller blasting the cabin with noise. So, I have to say I am absolutely blown away by the fabulously high quality of your audio presentation, particularly Ed whose Lightspeed must have a better noise cancelling mic than Ian’s Bose.
The Lightspeed mic sounds way better in the video. Also disappointing you didn’t talk about the best part of the Lightspeed. Being able to take the hearing test with the app, and customise the headset sound to your particular ears. Thats kind of the whole point with a headset....The sound.
In the video the Lightspeed mic sounded better, but that was not replicated in the headset. Since then, we have changed our audio setup, so the next test should have more representative audio on the video. I need to go back and look, but if we didn't mention the 'tuning' we should have, Ed certainly ran through the test and set a profile. I'm pretty sure I mentioned one weakness was not being able to set multiple profiles for shared headsets? All that said, I believe the Lightspeeds will have the benefit of software and firmware updates via the app, and when the next significant version launches, we'll be revisiting the headsets, and this time will run though the whole setup/personalisation.
@@FLYERTV Check out the app where it says Hearing EQuity / manage presets / add presets for multiple users. I don't think you would want to test a headset that was setup for another persons hearing?
Great presentation. What adjustments are there on the set. If the sound is ‘electronicy’, can’t this be tweaked out. There was a mention of it being ‘mapped’ to the ears. What is that please.
Their use of a proprietary port is absolutely insane in a world where usbc is the standard. I charge EVERYTHING in my flight bag with one cable (usb c) Whoever made that decision should be fired.
@@drewfliesbikes its some sort of port invented by apple years ago that never saw use. Its so uncommon it may aswell ne proprietary because you cant buy them anywhere atleast from my research.
@@_multiverse_ Apple gave it a fancy name but they didn't invent it. It's a "USB Mini Type B"; Nikon called it a UC-E6; Cannon or Olympus called it USB5. They are still widely available. It was popular for a brief period of time with digital cameras. It's a great port; not sure why it didn't take off. Funny enough I see many of them in thrift stores.
Interesting audio comparison as on the recording the LS mic sounds clearer, the Bose over modulated. So interesting if it is the Bose mic that sounds genuinely clearer or having the LS headset on makes the Bose sound clearer (if that makes sense)?
@@FLYERTV So that would be a function of the audio processing of the signal to the speakers? There was no mention of adjustments to the LS, which has in effect a 12? channel graphic equaliser and could possibly be made to sound more natural. As a deaf person I found the LS so much clearer, even after allowing for the clipping.
@@melvilib We ran through the setup with the LS and adjusted it to match Ed's hearing profile, we'll almost certainly make another video showing that aspect, and will make another in-cockpit recording with some adjustments to improve the recording. It is a shame that the video audio did not accurately reflect the audio we heard in flight. There's a plan for that, but some further testing required.
The DZ has lots of extra app enabled features - are any of them truly useful in the air (lack of full Android support seems an obvious oversight). UAC port is a surprise and will likely fall foul of the upcoming EU legislation that will require USB-C for new devices.
Bose definitely sounds better, Lightspeed sounded quite Tinny. Not a huge fan of the colour or profile of the Lightspeed, maybe just an old guy thing 😂Really like the concept of the added safety measures with the Lightspeed.

Also, when you swopped headsets the better microphone 100% is the Lightspeed.

BTW if I could change the colour of the Bose, I’d change it for the colour you were wearing.

The Bose headset has a much more natural tone either when the wearer speaks, or when the LS wearer speaks

yes it is Wadswick
Thought so. I've been there once, keep meaning to go back. They've a nice restaurant for an Airfield and my friends live with walking distance
