I am blown away that the NP263 and especially the stock GM 8.25 IFS are both holding those power levels. That stuff is a lot tougher than I would have given it credit for.
The front diff's usually do pretty good due to the added strength of having the heavy large and odd longed flange that is incorporated into the housing 360°(top front bottom rear) for the mounting of the removable side assembly in the pert that the carrier housing is largest. Also where the bolt on passenger side housing extension tube's mounting flange is where it is thickist for the flat sealing surface and the thickness and meat for accommodating the threaded holes for the bolts that hold it attached. Same thing for the thick flange on the other side where their is not a extension tube but a plate to accommodate a bearing and seal where the shaft protrudes for the axle mounting flange. The additional places where the housing has mounting accommodations just add additional strengths and rigidity to it. If u look at (Ondagas) on Yt they have 2000+hp 4x4's that have bone stock transfercases and front differentials that run 7's at 180mph. Very impressive stuff. One has the electronic TC and one has been fitted with a stock manual TC. They run a little negative toe for the one truck that is the designated drag truck. They ran one of the trucks on this vs that and the world vs the hoonacorn a few times. It's called the Crawfish lol.
We ran 8.06 @180mph in a 5500lb Ext Cab short bed on Cal-Tracs/Leaf Spring set up in our shop drag truck, also with a bone stock NP263HD transfer case. Truck made right around 2300-2400hp at full tilt on the track. Then shortly after running back to back passes at 180+mph we urged ODSS to cut the track length to 1/8 mile because the trucks were simply going to fast at the weight they were at... Something to keep in mind. Even with two chutes, once we hit that 180+mph point, he was having an extremely hard time getting the truck stopped during shut down...
This was some great motivation for the ugly truck! I think you will be happy with it once it is all done and I think you will be in the 8 second range no worries!! Great video LT!!
I used to be hard worker just like you and I went to Lincoln tec nj. But you don’t stop! If I ever had a shop I would hire you anytime. Keep up the good work and by the way I also like you and your partner on trucks
Yup, that thing is nasty!! Definitely well put together and great motivation!! For me as well as you and everyone that follows you that's build their project!! Thank LT!!
Please take the truck out one more time. Your fans would love to see you hit your goal of a 10 second pass. The truck will do it and I always find myself yelling and cheering you on as you make a pass.
Maybe time to move to Florida,! I've been watching you for years and I love the content. I live in Tennessee just south east of Franklin .We miss you on TV.
Sounds like if he's getting a lot of toe in when the front end lifts that he has quite a bit of bump steer. Better to keep the front end down of course but if he relocated those tie rods a bit it could help some too.
Its funny, when my dad was a kid, a 12 in the 1/4 mile was considered a really fast street car. When i was a kid...well.."I owe you a 10 second car." #R.I.P.paulwalker. Nowadays, kids are on that 8 second street car life. I had a 1987 notch fox with an actual 800hp (crank) 400ci sbf that came out of a tweaked sprint car chassis with a glide behind it. I put a 200 dry N2o kit on it and it was the fastest street car in Reno, Nevada from 2003-2007. I never EVER lost a street race and The fastest pass i ever ran in that car was 10.91 @ 131. My little brother's best friend has an Audi Rs3 with full interior and a/c he daily drives that runs mid 9s on E. Absolutely ridiculous how fast that little Audi is on a Bone stock engine and bone stock trans.
That thing would never ever do it on the street. Remember it's still two well drive. I also don't think hes the type of person that would do that on public roads especially in front of so many fans when he is always preaching safety and following the rules. I think he is too much integrity to do that even though no one would mind.
LT, I hope you realized what you've gotten into making a goal of a 7 second pass in the ugly truck, I really hope it can go 7s but I think you might need 2500hp to get there. Forget about doing a 🦶 brake, your gonna need a transbrake with a real mean turbo400 build and a whole lot more or it's going to have a ton of parts break. I'm interested on the power that can be made with the 4.6 mustang, please have them send you some ARP head bolts for at least the heads, I've heard of guys lifting the heads with 8psi.
First of all, Bad Ass truck. I have a 2015 4door 1500 that's making 947 to the rear wheels (416, F1A dual meth, 8 speed built by circle D). I am wanting to upgrade the front driveshaft. I did some research on your diesel front shaft and it claims that it's the same wall thickness. IDK. The other is do you use a different fluid for the front 8.25 diff? Transfer case is stock MP3023. Thanks
Awesome build. Hey LT, I was wondering if you had a chance to check out Turbosmart's newish Straight Gate wastegate? I finally got the one I ordered about 3 months ago and Im chomping at the bit to install it on my Z this weekend. I have a back halfed 1994 300ZX 28x10.5 car running a 3.3L VG30DETT based engine with a single Precision Gen2 PT6875 currently making around 920 to the rear wheels. I've only seen a few guys running em but I've heard nothing but good things. If it's as good as advertised I'll definitely be getting a few more for my other toys 😁 I'll give ya some updates after its up n running 👍
you know, I never really looked at it until now, and that's a pretty cool design. I like how its more straight through, which could make packaging it a little easier and should flow much better than a traditional gate with the sharp 90 bend they do
@@LawrenceTolman My thinking exactly. Also the actuator can be clocked to 3 different locations so packaging is even easier. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like, I'm super curious with the butterfly style straight design how different it'll sound from the Hypergate it currently has. Anyways keep up the good work, pulling for ya to put down a badass number before starting the AWD conversion on the Ugly Truck. 10.50's I'm hoping for 🤘
I thought it was awesome to see what the ugly truck potentially can do and more, my betting dollar more, lol. idk what it is but i love seeing heavy pickups going down the quarter in the 8s. and for the 8.1 I hope you don't blow it, keep it or find another purpose, if it was mine it be going in my c4 turbo and all. after the new engine was in of course. still think the ugly truck is the coolest extendo cab on youtube
What’s the weight penalty worth if a person started a build like this with a 2500 instead of a 1500? You’d already have your literally the whole driveline from front to rear (to start the project with at minimum). Bigger brakes as well. Is the extra weight worth not having to completely swap 2500 stuff to a 1500? Just to clarify, this is a genuine question. Not a criticism post. I understand at the end of the day lighter is better, but for the average gearhead just looking to go fast with something different what is that additional weight worth?
You know, that’s a great question and I can only guess, but I’d estimate a gas 2500 truck would weigh 800-1,000lbs more than a gas 1500, but that might be a bit much.
You really need to drag that truck someplace to close the book on the stock motor build. It will be worth it. Do you plan to street race the truck? Seems that’s the reason people build 4wds. I think at the track 2wd would be better and of course lighter
