    -- PRESENTATION: ARAKI RYU KENPO --
    The Araki Ryu Kenpo style was founded by Araki Mujinsai Minamoto no Hidenawa during the end of the 16th century, more than 400 years ago. According to some ancient texts, he was the grandson of the warlord Araki Setsu no Kami Minamoto no Murashige. The style is supposedly derived from old Chinese boxing techniques, developed in Japan during the Sengoku Jidai’s Tensho era (1573-1592). Araki Mujinsai was an experienced battlefield fighter himself. From nowadays’ point of view, it might seem to be a primitive style. In other words, it is a Bujutsu style from before the separation into specialized arts such as Kenjutsu, Jujutsu and so on.
    The style is based on 6 principles:
    Keep a comprehensive approach of the martial art;
    With chained weapons (Kusarigama, Chigiriki…), use the chain;
    Don’t attack with the whole body, but keep a basic safeguard;
    Perform each technique with a hard fighting style, and in the end stab without fail with a finishing blow;
    Consider all weapons and techniques (such as the staff, the chain, the armor, the Nagamaki, the sword techniques) as an indivisible martial system.
    There is one saying expressing the system of Araki Ryu Kempo: “Don’t train with the idea of winning a match, but engage in a match with the spirit of training”.
