It’s Osmo 3044 (raw). It’s unusual to use this particular version of Osmo on a dark walnut piece as it’s intended for light woods like birch, maple, or ash. It’s designed to finish these lighter species without yellowing. Truly excellent finish
Looks good, but will it last? Wood bending is very slow and delicate process and the results are phenomenal when it is done right. You would get smooth curve, not looking like poligons from some game.
It would take a very involved steam setup for traditional woodbending of this thickness - otherwise it would have to be bent lamination. I think this was quite inventive and I don't see why this particular piece would not last the test of time. Perhaps a biscuit on the butt joint might be wise though.
Красота, отличная идея, а какой расчёт глубины погружения фрезы, браво. Кстати мне ни разу не попадалась такая коническая фреза. Но теперь я сохраню эту идею, для дальнейшего облагораживания дома.
I used to think that too but I saw a video of them testing that and it’s essentially the same strength since wood glue is stronger than the bonds between wood fibers
@daveklein2826 I mean, I've dropped a picture frame on the corner & had the frame break before. End grain glue ups just really aren't super strong, but you do you boo.

I did this with my 3 stack of floating shelves. To get them rounded, I started to through the tiny veneer created at the bottom of the cut out. Lines are way worse than angled wood. I actually like the way mine turned out with the angular shape.
Great video, fun music, interesting project, not long. Great Job! Could you please add to the description the type of wood (looks like black walnut to me) and what you used for the finish?
180 degrees, divided by the number of kerfs equals the desired included angle of the bit (approximately). The spacing between the cuts determines the outside radius or diameter of the bend. So desired radius times pi (divided by two for the 180 degree bend). Something like that I think maybe
@@KyleWilloughby-r1k ahh, pretty simple. So in other words, 180 divided by the angle of the bit (kerf)? Then depending on the size that you want, the tighter spacing the smaller curve, the wider the spacing the bigger the curve?
Both Matthew Peech and Tamar 3x3 custom channels have full how to videos on this technique. By cutting the kerfs not all the way through, the wood becomes pliable.
Some things just do not appeal. Kidney-shaped tabels, and these whatever-you-wanna-call-thems. They inhabit s gray zone. Cool, how did you figure out how many grooves to route out?
There are kerf calculators online where you enter the different data (angle of bend, thickness of wood, taper size, etc.).
What's the name of the router bit, that is used in the beginning. Searched for something like that, but found nothing ...
Tapered bit.
Нужно было в клей опилки подмешать - швы от фрезы были бы менее заметны
