  • Scientists recently discovered a fascinating paradox: in trying to breed superproductive egg-laying hens, they found they produced fewer eggs. We examine what went wrong with these so-called “superchickens,” and we look at other examples of where competition can be detrimental to success, like a high school Model UN team and Sears department store.

Successful Narcissists are our super chickens?

I have pet backyard chickens and they move exactly like tiny velociraptors (or deinonychus who inspired…] in the kitchen scene in JP ! It’s so remarkably similar it’s eerie, you can clearly see their direct ancestry. The PROBLEM here is, as per usual, HUMANS. Humans messing with living, breathing things. Never learn… we should respect these animals. They do suffer horribly in those places because they feel like anything else does. I live alongside them, I witness it everyday. Show some respect ! They’re tiny dinosaurs and everyone should have a pet flock. Fresh REAL EGGS every day too. Naturally….

I'm a simple chicken farmer but the idea of Superchickens, making more eggs, getting more aggressive is intuitively unsettling: Do you want a bunch of tiny deinonychus

No, no I do not. I have a backyard flock of 14. I already have to deal with a rooster that is convinced that I should join his harem and waffles between throwing clover at me and dancing around me or crashing into the back of my legs as fast as he can run. We're breeding buff brahmas. He's over 2 feet tall. So thankfully he's too big to be able to get up much speed. When my 10 yr old kid has to go out to take care of the water, he's armed with a squirt bottle. If that becomes ineffective, I have an old tennis racket that I picked up at goodwill. Usually all the chickens are pretty well behaved, but during molt, that rooster gets grumpy. And if a hawk has flown over and startled them he doesn't want to let anyone get near the hens. We'll keep our giant chickens and take a hard pass on the super chickens thanks.

Humans becoming species focused is the next step.
Generally thought it would be the asteroid or the primary exchange of nuclear weapons that would push humans to that step.
Climate change and ecosphere collapse with also do the same thing.
The current pandemic seemed to do it enough to show human beings are capable of changing and that was not even primarily collaborative focused (much more potential when done with intent).
It is time to evolve from individual focused to species focused and obviously ecosphere focused.

It's also suggested by the IPCC to go vegan. There's absolutely no nutritional need to consume any product that comes from an animal. Of course this is an utopian view but it starts with you.
