    I run gateron browns and my favorite part of running o rings is that the tactile bump is more satifying and more noticable because it removes a lot of the extra travel after the tactile bump. You can feel the bump and then it hits the end of the travel almost instantly. so satisfying, cant go wrong for 6-7 bucks. only thing id do now is double up on the spacebar

    • @ShadowSlayer760
      @ShadowSlayer760 4 года назад +2

      @@bbraydenn Not loud as in the actuation of the key but the caps themselves were pretty annoying which is why I copped some O rings to dampen them. I wasn't thinking about the added benefit of a slightly shorter travel and better feeling tactile bumps. I really like gateron browns while they're "cheaper made" than cherry mx they're not necessarily lesser quality. Essentially a brown is a blue but without the audible click. I ended up going with the keychron k2 because is the only tkl that retains the 60% size without ditching the row of function keys and the DELETE button. It also works wired via usb C to A or wirelessly with blutooth (which is surprisingly low latency I accidently had a whole sesh on bluetooth and almost didn't notice)

      Yeah that is the same feeling for me on my GMMK and the Ergdodox EZ with the Kailh Coppers, they give you the automatic resistance then the quick bottom out. Makes the the typing feeling better and makes it sound better as well, you go from having a bottom out clack to having a upstroke clack, really changes the idea of what the clacks are all about.

    Idk if you mentioned this but there's different thickness in O-rings. On Amazon specifically I found 40A soft and 50A hard O rings. I have the Ducky One 2 Mini (w/ brown switches) and it sounds and feels amazing even with O rings. I went with the 40a softer version over the 50A hard ones after doing some research and don't regret it. I can actually fit 2 40A O rings under one keycap but I 1000% recommend only having one. 2 of them just don't feel right trust me lol.

    I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest the best way to put 2 or 3 rings on to prevent bunching is to put the rings on 1 a time, attached to keyboard then remove and put the 2nd ring on. That way the first ring is already pushed down to the end of the key. It definitely does reduce the travel length which I like and the space bar is the loudest key on the board so even putting more on that one than the other keys helps I think. You know I never thought I would be interested in this stuff but when you think about it as an office worker it's the main way we communicate with the computer so it's more than worthwhile to put some investment into. People are so quick to buy 2 or 3 monitors for productivity without even thinking of this stuff.

  • @melodychest9020
    @melodychest9020 3 месяца назад

    I know this is kind of old but it depends on the measurements of the O-rings as well as they come in different sizes. I found that a 10mm outer diam, 5mm inner diam with a 2.5mm thickness to really help with the Cherry MX Red switches. It quietens them quite a bit and the actuation point is closer and the typing feel flies like you are always in a hurry! O-rings are really worth it on a case by case basis of course. Really appreciate Sherlock Guru over here who is always meticulous and fastidious and tells us things as they are which is really helpful. Cheers man!

    IMO, I like Keyboard o-rings as they reduce the key travel distance. saving a few milliseconds on a key press may not seem like much, but it can assist with your skill in games by simply making your movements a little faster and more precise

  • @sjamalai
    @sjamalai 4 года назад +4

    Great video:) 50% or more of the sound is actually when you let go of the keycap. The faster you let it go, the higher is the sound. The O-rings would help a bit, since the travel is less for the keycap, but still.

    Typically, I find orings to dampen sound the most effectively on browns (vs reds) and reduces the pinging of bottoming out on metal boards (vs plastic). A lot of budget boards tend to be pretty loud due to rattly keycaps and terrible stabilizers which are sometimes a hit or miss in terms of sound dampening, whereas my current main, the Kemove 61 Shadow with gateron brown, is pretty quiet out of the box, more so than other boards with orings, and doesn't even seem to need them.

    O-rings change the actuation point???
    I thought they just raised the cap slightly as the o-ring doesn't actually suppress the switch atall. The travel distance remains constant? You just get a damped bottom out?

    I like membrane keyboards because of the "squishyness" at the end. But I have a custom keyboard and have to use the mechanical.
    What are the softest, squishiest O-rings available?

    the only negative I found when using o-rings is if you use a keyboard with rgb with shine will not be as great because the o-rings will block some of the light.

  • @yardljos001
    @yardljos001 3 года назад

    Doesn't seem like the o-rings on the huntsman do anything except make the keys taller. The red part of the switch moves as a whole so no part of the ring ever actually hits anything when you strike a key. The actuation distance remains the same as well.

      try swapping out the orings and use switch films, it surprisingly works and sound better than orings. switch films does not have mushy feel and nicer sound than orings

    Do these Orings actually reduce tye travel distance on the red optical switches because of the way they are built??? The red part of the switch bottoms out not at the key stem.

    O-rings don't do anything to the razer huntsman, it sounds the same with or without o-rings, and the height difference you were talking about was because the o-rings sit against the stem of the switch.

    Thanks Techne.
    These rings seem to be something, that haven't seen very many reviews.
    However, I've used them on the CM Storm Quickfire, which worked well with this board.
    Now I'm using the new Logitech G513 Carbon, so no "O" rings for me, due to the proprietary Romer G key caps.

    • @TheTechne

      yeah they are great on the razer board, but took a while to get use to on the Cherry MX Red

    Dude thank you so much for recommending putting 2 o rings on the huntsman te. I was about to return this thing because of how bad the clack was and omg night and day difference!

    • @spaceylmao
      @spaceylmao 4 года назад

      Is there really that much of a difference I was looking forward to getting the razer huntsman TE but then I heard that loud switch and there were not any other options for switches if it really makes a difference then it will be the perfect keyboard for me

    • @jonpwnd
      @jonpwnd 4 года назад

      Paradox. Yes I would have returned it without these o rings. It’s not the click of the switch but the clack of the key hitting the bottom/top that is so loud. Also this keyboard is SUPER sensitive like almost annoyingly so. I’ve gotten used to it but still misspell words and make mistakes because it activates at the drop of a needle

      I’d say get a ducky if your going to be doing homework too mostly because you can make a ton of errors if you get the razer huntsman te

    Ive been reading and a lot of people were claiming that O-Rings dont work with Huntsman keyboards because of the mechanism. Is this true?

    • @joshmacdonald28
      @joshmacdonald28 3 года назад

      It is optical switches using lazed tech once the lazers broke it actuates the fastest out of most keyboards this will only give it less travel an maybe faster bottom out cba though i have o rings but i dont use them they helped my blues feel abit faster
