Thank you for returning to Angelina. Your reactions to her performances are always worth watching.
The song was written by Mark James, an American singer/songwriter, who recorded it the year it was written. The best known version, however, was that done by Elvis Presley. It was his last No 1 song. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, Mark James is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."
Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song.
The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family.
Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

Hi, Angelina is on the next level - at the age of 16. The first sound and goosebumps. This is a reminiscence to Elvis. I think Priscilla Presley had this hairstyle in the past, the clothes and the guitar are reminiscent of Elvis himself.
She takes a big song and alters it according to her imagination. This time the original is almost unrecognizable. But her version is great. Really great. Angelina's version is somehow calmer and yet very emotional. Isn't it also a bit more modern? I think she updated it for today. Watching Angelina "grow" is also a nice idea.
Elvis probably still had hope for the relationship. Angina makes it sound so sad, like she's done with the relationship. I think that's the difference.
Her other Elvis covers have always been at the top of my playlist. These are songs made for her. Just change something or something more and it's her song.
    Greetings from Germany

Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Juliet sitting there she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day.
Elvis' version is great, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own.
When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 83 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched.
Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song.
The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers.
The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister.
If you haven’t already reacted to her latest studio of Whitney Houston's version you should - here’s the link - ruclips.net/video/iX0g99jN26U/видео.html

Great reaction! Angelina's version is more in line with the original songwriter of the song, Mark James. Elvis chose to speed it up and pick up the tempo in his version. You're going to get people who are going to say they love her version, while others who are more purists(those who can only accept the artist that made the song famous and no one else), will say they hate her version. They have the strange idea she is trying to do it better than Elvis, when she is just offering a different interpretation of it. The funny thing is, a lot of die-hard fans of Elvis have left comments that they actually liked her version and were happy that her arrangement was different and she was not trying to be a copycat. Go figure! Like they say, you can't make everyone happy! By the way, she actually was strumming the guitar during he performance. You can actually hear it....👂👂👂

Elvis's wasn't a cover, he did the original - you have to wonder if the set here wasn't in a storeroom at Graceland, or is sort of referencing that feeling of, like you said, knocking the dust off ...... Angelina is just, as usual, brilliant. And talk about references to the original, the guitar carried over the back, and kinda strummed off mic, w/ no amp is a DEFINITE reference to Elvis, the early days

    Dusting off the Classics.
Yeah! She’s something special, isn’t she? Power & Pure Velvet Perfection! This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. I think that makes them cousins. Full Black Leather Bodysuit, the guitar from his concert in 68 and the hair a homage to Priscilla Presley. Yeah! She can bring tears to your eyes.
I base my interpretation on my knowledge of Angelina's journey from an 18 month old little girl singing a "classic" of music history 'I Will Always Love You' . She has been listening to these classics on repeat on YOUTube since then under the guidance and inspiration of her Grandmother Mery Zamani.
She has been performing these classics since her first time in studio at 6 yrs old.. She has continued this journey through her 1st introduction to the world with her "Classic'" 'Gloomy Sunday’ and following with her many performances at her many Jazz Festivals, TV performances, Concerts, and charity events, studio recordings and practice sessions at home accompanied or not. The location in the Antique store represents these classics (like the furniture) of another era. To me she portrays wonder at all these classics surrounding her as she has travelled this road. Her tribute to Elvis is at her present age, today, each stage represented by her cousins and sister and ending with Angelina herself on the couch still admiring all this history surrounding her. The beautiful rendition of the song, and other tributes are in the leather outfit, Guitar and hair a tribute to Priscilla. Just my interpretation but it makes the most sense to me. ♥👣👸🏻

My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.

Your comments are insightful and much appreciated, but keep in mind that young artists require more than just a great reaction. Angelina is not only a talented vocalist, but she is also a very special person! She is a committed humanitarian who gave her shoes to an orphan girl, and has helped raise over 20 million for children's charities. Her goal is to sing for the world to spread love and peace. Please help boost the analytics for Angelina and each aspiring artist you feature. Most importantly, EDUCATE fans by verbally encouraging them to use those links to watch, like and comment on the original video, and to subscribe to her official channels. Hello, I beg to differ. In the 1950s and 1960s, in some States we had " Top 40 " A.M. Radio. The top forty songs on the Billboard 100 would be repeated all day or until the radio station shut down. In 1968, Houstonian Mark James wrote and sang " Suspicious Minds ". At the time I did not know that he was a Houstonian and also explains why we were hearing him first on the local Top 40 radio stations. At the time before any Disc Jockey announced his name, anyone hearing the music thought it was Elvis' latest song release. Voices were similar. So, perhaps Angelina Jordan may be enjoying " Suspicious Minds " in these days, she got it from Mark James, who also wrote other Number One Hits. Some even Elvis recorded. F.Y.I. fairly young, thank you.

Comparing the brilliant AJ and Elvis is just crazy. Her song possibly to many will be too slow and deliberate , while the Elvis studio version was faster and suited the musical requirements at the time (1969) borne out by its phenomenal success.. It was even faster in live to produce an epic exciting performance. Nothing that has gone on in the past can take away this magnificent performance by AJ where people nowadays dwell more on the words, but I wonder if she would spice it up a bit with a live audience.

This song was an original Elvis song. I get so tired of people saying that Elvis stole this and Elvis stole that. This girl is good but she made her career off doing Elvis since she was 12 years old. Elvis was born in 1935 and was before James Brown, Chuck Berry and Michael Jackson, way before who he is constantly compared to. Old fat guys in Vegas have made their career and living off of being Elvis. He was unique and combined Rythum and,
Blues, country and gospel. Watch "Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson/I Got A Feeling In My Body" and see who stole from who. That will always be Elvis Presley's song until she sells almost 2 Billion records like he did.

She has a cover of Whitney Houston and does it live. It's amazing.

I think those 3 girls are her related to Angelina. I believe her grandmother was also involved in this video production.

Not meant to be exactly like The King's version. She simply slowed it down and actually arranged it the way the original songwriter wanted it to be. Many people, including die-hard Elvis fans, really like her version. You don't, which is fine. Every artist can't make everyone happy! 👌👌👌

It's a good cover, but you never forget its a cover. She will never make an Elvis song "hers", despite your video title choices.

I think she has an unique voice but your comment that “she owns this song” is off the mark, in my opinion. Maybe it is just me, her style is so affected that I can’t relate to the emotion in the song at all. It’s like she is going through the motion of singing the song, technically very well, but not delivering the emotions of the lyrics.

Fair enough. But it is really odd to hear you say that she is just going through the motions of singing the song. Her version is actually more in line with what the original songwriter wanted the song to be performed and many people say they actually understand the lyrics better and feel the emotions when she sings it. Oh well, no one artist can make everyone happy! Different strokes for different folks! 👌👌👌

I know she has a great voice, but certain songs can only be sung by certain voices. This tune like some of the other tunes I've heard her sing is just not for her. One big example for me is "I Put a Spell on You" by Screaming J Harkins. There's NO way she should be singing that tune..

Depending on which version you are referring to, her version at 9 years old is seen as extremely well done for someone so young who is not supposed to have that type of control or vocal ability at that age. Currently, she hasn't sung this song for a while. Either way, many people really like her 9 year old version of the song and are really impressed by her. You may disagree, which is fine. Not every artist can make everyone happy! 👌👌👌

@@rw716 Yes she is blessed with a beautiful voice, but have you heard her sing "I Put a Spell on You"? That song needs to be sung with a raspy soulful voice. Listen to Tom Fogarty of Creedance Clearwater Revival sing it. That's the way it should be sung. She doesn't have that type of voice at all. Please listen to her cover then John's and you'll know what I mean. ...... PS: Same goes with this Elvis classic "Suspicious Minds".
