When I first saw this game in Sonic Mega Collection Plus for PS2, I never thought that it was actually the Japanese Puyo Puyo game in Sonic's skin. The thought that the Exercise Mode theme is actually the tune "Sticker of Puyo Puyo" never crossed my mind, as I always associated this tune with Sonic since I first played it. Now I know that I was playing Puyo Puyo all this time without realizing. Later, when I found out that it was also themed after Kirby and released on Super NES, I tried that, too. If you played DRMBM or Kirby's Avalanche, you played Puyo Puyo.
You know, I've always wondered what would happen if Arle and co. had to face off against Robotnik and his robotic minions. The idea is there, and Sega does have the rights to both. Think about it, Arle and co. are doing Puyo Puyo battles, as usual, and the puyos begin reacting with warping power. Meanwhile, on Mobius, Robotnik is thinking of a way to finally defeat a certain blue pest of his, (who shall remain nameless in the game because he's not the protagonist in this story,) and creates a device that was supposed to warp the hedgehog to a death trap, but starts reacting to another energy that it got a hold of and starts warping Robotnik and his Nincombots to Arle's world, or even Ringo's. At first, Grounder and Scratch meet Arle and co. and decide to be the evil, (yet incompetent,) robots that they are. Arle challenges them to a Puyo Puyo battle, which the two are confused about, but accept anyways, because they think Arle is just a weak little girl. In typical fashion, (depending on the player's skill, which shouldn't be hard as it's the tutorial fights,) the two get crushed by the puyos. They both flee, tails between their legs, and report back to Robotnik, who had been studying the puyos, and noting the latent space/time capabilities they have. He considers a plot to use them to conquer all worlds and instructs his minions to gather as many puyos to power his machine, leaving Arle and co. to fight this new threat. Also, include a running joke of Robotnik and co. calling the puyos "beans", with Arle and co. constantly correcting them. Bonus points if you throw in a line of dialogue where they're called "jelly beans".
John, thank you for this! literally all the remixers have ignored mean bean machine, and it had some of the greatest music in the sonic series! so nice to see someone finally remix a song from this game!
I loved listening to this song while playing Dr. R's Mean Bean Machine on the PS2 version of Sonic Mega Collection and holy cow this remix sounds so good :)
Oh I just got hit with a ton of nostalgia from playing this game!! Just from playing the Exercise Mode on my own or just thinking about the continue screen. This was really such a memorable localization of Puyo Puyo And recently rewatching Aosth makes it even better!
Welcome back JD ;3, That was an awesome remix to a pretty cool track (honesty, I like the game over version of the original track but I digress). This whole remix made me node my head like a freaking pigeon! X3
the picture reminds me in puyo 7 how there's a "dark carbuncle" with dark arle and after she stops being evil she says carbuncle was just pretending to be evil
WTF are you talking about are you referring to the japanese series of kitsy cat comics "Puyo! Puyo! Kitsy Koneko!" and also just refer carbuncle as "Tinker"
If this is the remix, i would hate to hear the original XD Sorry, I guess since Its a little repetitive, that's what gets under my skin. 2:40 is the best part in my opinion. And 3:02 faintly reminds me of Palm Tree Panic . Over all, I think you gave the tune more life with your remix break. And that is what counts; being able to enhance Sonic music and bring out a higher quality of the masterpiece. Good Job Mate!
I don't really see much Mean Bean remixes though out of the very few, this is certainly the best in my opinion. Never knew I can actually get exercise out of this.😂
Pastel Xenon Most people know MBM or Kirby’s Avalanche. I actually like Puyo Puyo, for one it’s an amazing game series on it’s own but it comes with the best version of Tetris ever in PPT
I think the MBM nostalgia is what makes Puyo Puyo games sell so we in North America today. Puyo Puyo Tetris and Champions both got North American releases and they've been performing well.
Ive maxed the score out a small handful of times in my life, on an authentic cube mega collection copy. Attempted it on an actual genesis and it froze at some point and dolphin slows down for me eventually.
omg!!!! please make the whole soundtrack oooh this is so good!!
I'm planning to work on covering more of the tracks from this game, so hopefully that happens soon! Thanks for watching Pelo, means a lot!
Sr Pelo AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Yes to this 💯
make anothhhher musiiiccc aboutt this game or sonic 3 mooooooockkeey
Iss chrimas
*Loud screaming*
That artwork of Robotnik looks like a cross between his AoStH counterpart along with his classic Sega Genesis counterpart.
Also a bit of the SATAM design since of those shoulder pads and head shape
@@Kyezoar I actually forgot about that. lol How could I forget the most vicious and cruel form of Robotnik?
@@exxor9108 Yeah. Let's be honest. Eggman is a villain...
SatAM Robotnik is a MONSTER!
@@picoultimate7707 I definitely agree. AoSTH!Eggman is a ditzy pansy in comparison to SatAM Robotnik.
@@picoultimate7707 He's furry hitler
You, my friend, are getting a prrrromtion!
whoever drew that art really did the old american eggman design justice
This is beautiful lol, thank you for making this. I love this song, high nostalgia score, even though to this day I suck at this game xDD
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching! Keep up your great videos as well. 🙏🏿
@@JahnDavis2734 Thanks Jahn! :D
Even though I'll always call this song "Sticker of Puyo Puyo", I am absolutely in love with this remix! Nice work, man!
You have respect from schezo wegey
No the song is from a early Kitsy Cat short from around 1939.

Nah Kitsy, Cat, Christopher Cat, Simon Cat and his Puppet, Nick and Tinker, Batflight and Snake-eyes (With Ratsight) and across THIS ONE IS FOR JONY.
Will be fighting Robotnik and his robot minions for revenge.
Also the blob things are known as "Globs" according to the script and a reference sheet for the Kitsy Cat 1938 Colour short "Happy Garden"
Unfortunately, you have made this comment after the SEGA mandates have been established
I really love the 80s arcade vibe you gave this. The synths are SOOOOO cool. Had fun watching you work on this!
Sticker of Puyo Puyo is my favorite PP1 song, so, even though it's uncredited as the original song, this is still a nice remix.
The song that plays when grinding your raw skill to be able to beat Frankly... despite it only being Stage 2...
Welp adding this to my exercise playlist! Great remix once again Jahn-Senpai!
You just won the "PINGAS" award!
This is one of my favourite SEGA songs ever, and your version is awesome!
John, thank you for this! literally all the remixers have ignored mean bean machine, and it had some of the greatest music in the sonic series! so nice to see someone finally remix a song from this game!
Holy moly, I never expected to see a remix of a song of this game; this is Amazing
In confused and amazed at the same time
didnt think you could make this song any better than it already is
sounds very faithful to the original, all the while trying it's own thing on the extended parts. love it.
this is so good i can loop it and just listen to it over and over
I’m really glad this game is on the SEGA Mega Drive Classics collection!!!
I never really cared for the scratching sound of Sega Genesis music, but this tops the cake of all the remakes I have heard!
Great Work!
From 4 years ago? Wow, still a bad ass song! Good job and I love this!
SNOOPING AS USUAL I SEE
ok this is getting overused now
Boombox2ikik 23 Trust me it will never be overused.
More PINGAS please! 😀😀😀😀
Boombox2ikik 23 snoo-pingas*
Orangecrust oh damn you’re right! My bad
Your work seriously deserves so much more attention!! You do so well with making these remixes sound like glow-up HD remasters
This remix gives me life, it's not easy to mimic the same feeling as a Genesis soundchip you succeeded. Great art btw, it's perfect unison
We need the final boss theme remixed. It's so epic yet underrated.
Does this count?

The best part about this is that I'd totally play this if it was real. Looking cool, Jahn!
more like "sticker of mean bean machine"
How has this not gotten more attention
Oh I just got hit with a ton of nostalgia from playing this game!! Just from playing the Exercise Mode on my own or just thinking about the continue screen. This was really such a memorable localization of Puyo Puyo

A quick workout, for my thumbs!! (This is so amazing, as always!!)
Welcome back JD ;3, That was an awesome remix to a pretty cool track (honesty, I like the game over version of the original track but I digress). This whole remix made me node my head like a freaking pigeon! X3
Robotnik: Why, this is pure perfection, Mr. Davis! And for that, you get a special prrrromotion!!!
I can picture Robotnik doing a workout montage to this
XD
the picture reminds me in puyo 7 how there's a "dark carbuncle" with dark arle and after she stops being evil she says carbuncle was just pretending to be evil
WTF are you talking about are you referring to the japanese series of kitsy cat comics "Puyo! Puyo! Kitsy Koneko!" and also just refer carbuncle as "Tinker"
Turns out this is great to put on for real life exercise mode
If this is the remix, i would hate to hear the original XD

Good Job Mate!
If you told me, a sega composer made this in their free time. I'd believe you
THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT THE SOUNDFONT MEANT
Very good remix i like
Aw hell yeah, this is one of my favorite tracks
This is what you would hear if Sega made A Remastered DRMBM and played the Exercise mode.
I don't even know what the original sounds like but I like this remix
I don't really see much Mean Bean remixes though out of the very few, this is certainly the best in my opinion. Never knew I can actually get exercise out of this.😂
very nice job with this one brother.
Love it
Man it's sounds amazing!😎
If you combine this with terminal velocity act 1 this would be the best remake
sounds like something from a workout video...
Anyways, this a great track, man! Keep it up!
This remix is nice!"💖
Me and the boys pulling up to AMC for Sonic 2 next week 👆
Mi boi. You already have a. prrrrromotion! This is joyful music is surpassing standards!!
Dem beans
Great, but now I'm hungry for some jelly beans...
I love this version of sticker, but it kinda makes me sad that's there's people who love MBM and don't know of puyo
Pastel Xenon Most people know MBM or Kirby’s Avalanche. I actually like Puyo Puyo, for one it’s an amazing game series on it’s own but it comes with the best version of Tetris ever in PPT

I love Crush and Grounder!
Robotnik's Pingas Machine!
You gotta give me that snare its sooo good
Liked and susbcribed!!!
hey man, wondering if i'd be able to use this as background music for a video or two? :D
I’m doing a play through remix of mania putting different tracks on top. This would be great for titanic monarch 2.
PINGAS approved
nice
I miss Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts
why Robotnik wasn't in Puyo puyo tetris bailiffs me
There's a mod for the PC version that puts him in
THIS NEEDED TO BE IN SONIC MANIA!!! ❤❤❤
Why does tinker (The yellow kangaroo guy) have a sticker in his mouth? I don't recall him having one.
Where is the stage 13 remix? That track is boss-like
Just in Time for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.
I actually was exercising while I didn't see that it was exercise mode😅
EATING BEANS I SEE...
We need the 2 players ost
please include AOSTH's Robotnik theme somewhere
Ive maxed the score out a small handful of times in my life, on an authentic cube mega collection copy. Attempted it on an actual genesis and it froze at some point and dolphin slows down for me eventually.
IS THAT CARBUNCLE IN THE IMAGE!!
I don't know if that's how you spell it's name
This is the smash remix
I wouldn't be surprised if you did 2-player VS (AKA Satans theme from Poyo Poyo)
They shoulda made a robotnik dlc in puyo tetris or champions
yo this the shiz
USUAL I SEE?
