I have the normal Rep Arcadia and I love it, just amazing & only thing I'd personally change would be the pull-up bar to just be a normal classic straight-bar for pull-ups, but other than that.. it's just super great, which I could have gotten the Max, but my ceiling height wouldn't allow me to do pull-ups then. Edit: 11:06 , glad we agree. Straight pull-up bar like on normal racks, is the way things should go. I don't agree with the handles just being "fine" though, I freakin love them, those D-handles are way above most you find and get with functional trainers.
Great review. I love REP’s products. My gym is full of their stuff to include a PR-5K and Ares 1.0. I would love to have a separate functional trainer, but just like most of us I do not have the space for a power rack and a separate FT. Thanks for the time and effort you put in to all your content.
Many people underestimate just how much you can do with a functional trainer. For a truly minimalistic home gym you could have this and nothing else and still be able to train everything. With a footprint (non max version) of about 1 meter (3 feet) from the wall and 1,5 meter (5 feet) wide, you need less than two square meters (20 square feet). You are using so much more space for your rack. I have mine in front of my rack and the space in between is shared space. I recommend the non max version. There is only one exercise where wider is an advantage, the cable flyes, and even that is debatable. For most other exercises you want narrow. For example if you are doing cable curls, narrow will have the pull more straight behind you, while wide would mean it is pulling from the sides. Most people don't need a separate low row and pulldown tower. I have a piece of wood that I place between the uprights. I can rest my feet against that and then use the d-handles to pull on both weight stacks (one for each arm). It was also suggest that you can cross the cables, although I haven't tried that yet. I have also done low rows by using a single stack with extra weights using a gym pin (and still using the wood to have a foot rest). Instead of pulldown I am doing assisted pullup by placing the trolly halfway and then stepping into the d-handles. You have to bend in the knees, because it is not tall enough for an average guy like me (183 cm). However this bending is not any problem because it turns out that the lift is going to be the same weight no matter what you do with your legs (as long you don't touch the ground of course). I have been playing with doing RDLs by standing on a step box and then simply bending over to pick up the handles. I need the box because otherwise the trolly is too high even at its lowest setting. But easily fixed by moving myself up. The same setup also works for doing squats. Of course this is only good up to the combined weight of the stacks, which is 100 kg (220 lbs). There are many shoulder movements, tricep, bicep, lats etc that you can do. Many of them you could also do on a single tower. By having two towers you get to train both arms at the same time. Which is a huge time saver and the real reason why you should get a (narrow) functional trainer over a single tower. RUclips mostly has older videos of cable exercises with most channels promoting the idea that you can either do old school rack / barbell movements OR you can do machines. They forget about the functional trainer, which can do it all. You just need to learn the exercises and I assume that is why fewer people use it. Put your ass in a machine and it is fairly obvious what to do. Even if you could do the exact same thing on the cables. Would I like a combined point for low row and pulldown? Sure, but there is something to be said of the simplicity and elegance of the functional trainer. It is a lot of parts for something that you can already do.
I wish they made something so you could do seated rows or some kind of knee strap for lat pull downs. I’ve got the regular one and I really like it to be honest, does nearly everything I need for full body but the those two things I mentioned
I would like a more budget friendly option or a few options. One day I hope to own something as awesome as this rig, but not yet. Thanks for the review.
I feel like the market is missing a dual-stack functional trainer that can more seamlessly link the stacks together through the middle connecting space for low and high row points at 1:1 ratios (covering lat pull-down and low row movements, or even cable loaded belt squats if you've got a stand). ForceUSA's C10 I think does this or very similar and integrates with their sliding bench for a heavier selectorized machine experience and I think they're the only ones? I'd love to see similar designs from other companies.
the c10 also allows you to adjust the width between the cables. It is very nicely done. Also takes up alot more space and it was too expensive for me. It was my other top pick but I went with Rep Arcadia for half the price.
OK so I have 2 Arcadia's in my small boutique group studio and they work great. I have the original Arcadia not the larger one that you're showing here but if I purchase another 1 in the future I'm definitely gonna get it. I think the height and the width of this one can be really useful for larger sized people but I train mostly women and most of them don't necessarily need this larger size so it's been fine for Is most of my clients
I think the Arcadia is better than the 'commercial' ones I've used at hotels/gyms which typically have plastic D handles. And looks better. How does the built-in add on plates function? Looks better than those donuts on the ground.
For Canadians dreaming of buying one of these I just added it to the shopping cart and the total shipped to Toronto came to $5335. That doesn't include the additional weight for the stacks.
Yeah our practical choices are pretty limited. It's a big reason why I ended up with Bells of Steel stuff. Doesn't stop me from watching this stuff though 😂
This helps solidify my decision to buy this. Now I just need to decide which color. The white looks SO good by itself but would be very out of place in my gym.
I plan to open up my INSPIRE FT1 so a bench can pass through and an incline or upright position is possible. I plan to replace the brackets with 72" uprights and 43" crossmember at the top. Also going to swap sides so the feet point outwards and switch the shrouding to the opposite sides. The pull up bar should end up almost in the right position for maybe one bolt but a bracket to adapt shouldn't be too complicated.
I just got the Powertec version of a functional trainer because it allows you to use free weights. Overall good machine and the pull up bar it comes with is well done in my opinion (lots of different angles including just a straight bar). There are some small things that could be improved on. The one main thing that I think that would make it better would having it made in the U.S.; because Chinese manufacturing always comes with defects of some kind which I experienced. On a side note I put the entire thing together by myself.
I am wanting a separate functional trainer in my garage gym. I am in the process of selling my all in one to make that happen. luckily I do have the room to have a separate rack and a functional trainer.
I bought the Arcadia and love it ... ALTHOUGH, I do still wish I would have gotten the Arcadia Max. I am only 5'7" and was worried the max would be too big. I do have 10ft ceilings and plenty of space.
Hey Gluck, would you consider reviewing the Kensui Tokyo bar? I'm interested in it as a potential trap/Swiss/seal row/ camber bar hybrid, but there aren't many reviews on it out yet. Thanks!
I got the non max version a month ago. I am doing assisted pull ups by stepping into the d-handles. I don't think I could do that with the max since it is too wide. Similarly I can do ok low rows using the d-handles and since I am using both stacks it gets plenty heavy - the max would be worse for that.
The motion of the lat stretches across the body in the front, if your using the D handles try crossing them (right hand grabs left side handle) and sitting at little far from the machine. 💪🏽
Were you able to get your hands on the GetRXd RX3 Tornado system yet? I have the wall-mounted version & wanted to see your opinion on it. I have really been enjoying my system but have limited home gym experience. You have had your hand in ALL the cookie jars 😆 🤣 😂
Thanks for the great review! It's between the Max or standard Arcadia for me. I'm 5'10" - from your experience, could the Max actually be too wide to perform exercises like chest presses or weighted squats with both stacks (either in front of, or between the uprights)? I'm also wondering if my 8ft ceiling (96in), is going to make it too tight for regular pullups - though I do have a separate pull-up station. Thanks again for the video!
Nice review, as per usual. Really enjoy your content. I was wondering what the attachment is that you're curling with at the 10 second mark in the video (red and black with chrome canted handles). It looks cool.
@@jbhender09 all pretty similar. The Arcadia and Athena have similar pulley systems and the Ares is a bit more complex but in feel there isn't much if a difference.
To each his or her own, but IMO, $2,699.99 is too much for any exercise tool. For $2,699, I can create an entire home gym by buying many exercise machines from Temu, and I did. For instance, I paid $100.87 for a lat pull-down machine and $146.23 for a cable crossover machine-- and both prices included sale tax. Also, both exercise machines came with free shipping. What is not being said is that there is no optimal exercise equipment because of the problem of muscular accommodation, which is when muscular endurance, size, and strength gains stop because your body will eventually adapt to it. Thus, it makes more sense to have many more affordable ways to achieve muscular overload to avoid the problem of muscular accommodation.
If you think about the "best" were talking about commercial quality units that cost a few times this. So yes, it's likely the best for a home home gym that's within reason.
One question is are you better off adding a smart cable system to an existing rack like Voltra or even Flex and removing it when not using cables. Though Voltra needs to come down in price, I can see this being the standard in a few years. One intriguing set up would be a 3 by 3 rack, Shogun Flex or other smart equipment for functional trainer work, and a separate lat pull and low row like Adonis (or ATX Trinity - assuming it ever comes to US). That’s easily under 5K with two Flex units. How about a review along these lines?
