When you rescue a captured fighter in the original version, you just get a double shot but in Arrangement you get a full-on upgrade to your ship, with the ladybug enemies even giving you a triple shot!
Galaga (1981) was definitely seen in the 2001 movie, Legally Blonde, which Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) was playing Namco Museum on her Dreamcast at her house
I just now noticed that Galaga '90' wasn't on the list when it came out for the Turbo Grafx 16. Kind of a shame since that was my favorite one and I completed every level in every dimension through quite a few playthroughs.
I think it's just the TurboGrafx 16 version of Galaga 88 but as a different name just like how the Apple II version of Pac-Man was called Tax Man for some weird reason
40 Years anniversary to Galaxian's successor, best version for Galaga according to Firza : Arcade, FAMICOM Family (FC & FDS) (Best way to play Galaga FC version and you must to use aftermarket console such as Analogue than NES version with some different things), Windows, PlayStation (including TEKKEN appearance), Game Boy family (GB & SGB).
I never knew you could increase your firepower by letting your first fighter get captured and rescuing it with your second fighter! That's such a bold and clever tactic, and it makes the game so much easier! I love the tune that plays in a minor key when a fighter gets captured and in a major key when it's rescued! For a game that doesn't have much music, that's a surprisingly powerful way to express a potentially dire moment followed by an absolutely glorious one. I always thought that the fanfare that played at the start of the game sounded incomplete as it abruptly cuts off when the first level starts. I'm fairly certain that the Sharp MZ-2500 version was made in 1985 since it's virtually identical to the Sharp X1 version. I've noticed a pattern whereby certain Sharp ports of games were made in the same year. Similar story with some old NEC ports of games. I'm a little bit disappointed that Cosmo Gang: The Video wasn't included among the bonus footage at the end as it's essentially a cutesy parody of Galaga like Parodius is to Gradius, but that's no big loss.
You didn't know about the double starships? I'm honestly shocked, that's one of Galaga's defining game mechanics, one the game doesn't explicitly tell you about but players are sure to find out by accident. I'm just flabbergasted...then again maybe I'm just older, but I'm only 27.
I didn't know it was possible to not know this. did you also not know that you could eat the big dots in each corner of the maze, and then PacMan could chase the ghosts? Or that Mario could gab a hammer and smash barrels and fireballs?
I always viewed the Atari 7800 as a graphical enigma because it wasn't technically the first home videogame console. The horrid graphics and sound it displayed seemingly lent itself to being an affordable option for people who needed something they could buy for their kid that wasn't close to $1K. But I still find it insane that at one point, Atari was the best you could get at home out of the many other options that probably looked, sounded, played better and overall felt closer to the same arcade experience that consoles like the NES would do in 1985
@@jasonlee7816 I beat the entire game, all 256 levels, maybe around 5 months ago. For somewhat of a better context, I'm 14. Been practicing to beat the game for years and years.
Wow, that's a lot of Galagas. Can't complain though. There's no such thing as too much Galaga. lol Also, I believe there's a minor mistake in the timestamps, the GCN Namco Museum for the Arrangement is the same one as the classic one when it's actually 26:30. Just thought I'd point it out to you and help out. :)
Galaga was (sadly) never released for my TI-99/4A, but the MSX provides an approximation of what it might have looked like. (same with the ColecoVision not featured here). Single-coloured sprites just don't cut it for Galaxian though, and the 1981 TMS9918A would need a modern upgrade to deal with more than 4 sprites per scanline (each colour being a separate sprite, so all 28 sprites would be used up pretty quickly)...even swapping them with bitmap graphics, one is still restricted to two colours per 8x8 grid. It could be done with careful planning, but the memory overhead would be considerable. The considerable talents of the 21st century TI homebrew scene might pull it off someday I hope. It is one of the few remaining "A" list titles missing from the system and a personal favourite. Anyway, I'm rabbling, good video, lots of variety, thanks.
I was a Galaga Fan that my favorite vision was Namco Museum Vol.1, Famicom, Namco Museum GBA and DS, Wii, Plug n Play Jakkis Pacific, Namco Museum 50th Anniversary on Gamecube and Midway Arcade Vision
