  • Here are some of my older coins from 1780 to present. These coins in my collection include the U.S.A, Canada, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and Russia. Some of them are in rough shape. Some were gifted and some were found, dug up from the ground. I love history and these coins share some of the past.
I collected some of these coins when I was a very young man, boy. I grew up in Kingston, Ontario, which is the fourth oldest city in Canada and a bares a ton of history. The city was well fortified with three forts and four Martello Towers built in 1846/47: round, stone, fortresses that were surrounded by deep moats. A friend and I used to climb down in one of the moats and dig up relics such as buttons from English uniforms and coins from the 1800's.
There are numerous British coins, mainly pennies and half pennies. I also have a couple three cent silver pieces: the smallest coin ever minted by the United States. There are coins during Napoleon's and Nicholas II's reigns. Coins from the Second World War such as the five cent franc that was made from aluminum.
Please join me on this fascinating tour of history through my coin collection. Thanks for watching.

Oh man what a really cool showcase and history lesson. Love seeing this kind of stuff. The silver birthday bar is awesome and I really dig that square coin. I had no clue there was a 3 cent piece. Great stuff Pat!

Thanks David. I'll probably do another one on international coins. I got a whack of them, not that I ever travelled, but my mom did. Hence why I have all these foreigners sitting in a box

Digging up coins in abandoned forts when you were a kid, must have been a really fun adventure. Really enjoyed seeing your collection. 15:42 - it is a Finland 1929 1 Markka Nickel

I wonder what a 3 cent piece could buy these days, as opposed to what it could buy in 1852 when it was minted. Thanks teach!

Very nice "trime" 3 cent piece. Not sure on the 2nd coin. Holing coins was a common practice. Sometimes multiple coins were strung together so the wouldn't be lost. Obviously with that coin it didn't work. Collect because it's fun.

Hello Pat, i loved this video ! As an avid collector i also collect coins ! i LOVE collecting coins ! You showed a bunch of great coins ! includ a lots of french coins...😃. At 10:26 i guess it is an Australian coin because we see a Kangaroo on the coin. You are so true about the woman who throw some seeds, so an inconic "woman" on many french coins and stamps, we name her "la Semeuse". Beautiful 1898 2 francs coin ( i never owned or seen this coin) . I never seen too this dutch "square" coin ! Awesome ! At 15:30 the coin must to be a Finland coin i guess, . Great birthday silver "bar" item from your mother. Awesome you dug some very old coins during your youth near the Kingston forts ! I used to do metal detecting but i stopped it because the laws are not clear in my country and i do not want some problems ; metal detecting was a hobby just to have fun not trying to find some value items. In order to practice my english, i watched a lots of US metal dectecting videos ! What a fantastic trime coin ! Very very interesting french coin you showed at the start of the video : if i can i will try to do some research about this coin. All the Best Pat.

Thanks Fabien. Always wanted to hunt with a metal detector. Just unearthing items that had been lost in the soil is a cool experience. Besides coins we used dig up brass buttons from English uniforms. I wish I still had them. I had a few of them. I love the Francs, especially La Semeuse. Coins tell a lot of history, such as the franc in 1944 was made from aluminum. So Cool.

Whenever i see coins as old as these it always makes me wonder about whose hands they have been in over the years? 🤔

I wrote a story on the history of used books and who had read them and touched them etc. I have often thought the same about coins. Even wonder the journey they took to get to Canada. Thanks M
