Never saw this before, big thanks. Was a fan there, a couple of years before I became part of the Left Coast Supermodified Circus. Nice to see the stands actually PACKED. I miss those days. (Didn't realize an Oswego/ISMA Driver was there; nice to see "Double-0" Joe was part of the show.)
In the UK our oldest short oval formula GP midgets that have been running since 1934 (bel-vue).Have the same style engine on the outside of the frame like these do.Except our cars are only 1400cc (I believe but maybe 1300cc).And our midgets are one of the fastest formula for lap times.Mostly on 1/4 mile ovals.Would Love to see these monsters in the flesh.
I was at the first East/West Supermodified Shootout at Concord Motorsports Park in North Carolina. The West Coast cars are certainly different bit certainly fast. The West Coast guys had never raced in the cold temperatures that were in affect those few nights and the Northeastern guys had to show them how to lock the car in gear and push the car backward to suck the fuel out of cylendars.
1:43 That exhaust would be routed differently if I were driving that thing!!! Yikes! Imagine getting in a wreck and having that all bent up against you?
There’s absolutely nothing that looks, sounds or just feels quite like the supers. They are such a unique and amazing racecar.
Thank you for posting these old Irwindale Speedway races! These are indeed awesome! Going to the track has been fun last year

I gotta tell you that seeing SuperMods in person will not disappoint.
I hope they make a comeback...
