Sounds of BART Part 4: Fleet of the Future Horns
A few dozen recordings of the new car horns - the old and new tones, and the "air" horn.
0:00 - Original electronic horn
3:10 - New horn tone - seems to have been inspired by the legacy fleet horns. Used on the newer cars.
4:20 - Air Horn - the louder version of the original horn tone.
To note, some operators prefer using the air horn because the electronic horn is simply too quiet (compared to the legacy fleet)

Smart of them to mimic the old trains, a much more recognizable sound. MUNI did the same thing as the new S200 LRVs play mp3 recording of the gong and emergency horn of the older Breda LRVs

i heard many people detest the electronic horn as in the old one but then luckily as shown the newer ones added onto bart use the legacy fleet horn sound so at least the FOTF cars can get some more appreciation

I wish they turned the volume up on the new tone. Sounds more drowned out compared to the legacy fleet

Honestly I like the new bart train horn than the legacy float because it’s easier to hear and I like the sound because it gets you to know it’s a new train

I hate the louder new horn in the last section. I have heard it 3 times in real life. I was so scared that I didn’t watch it. Hopefully BART changes it.

Since I happen to be from India. I have access to more loud horns. This horn is barely loud and people can get comfused as it sounds like a car horn. The American loud horns are much better. In our country, metro trains do not use a horn except for a short pulse.

On a related note, did you know that BART's main lines use the same gauge (1676mm) as the Red, Yellow and Blue lines of Delhi Metro? And that BART's Fleet Of The Future is based on the *BOMBARDIER* _MOVIA_ of Delhi's Yellow and Blue lines?

Are they standardizing it to the new legacy-mimic horn and air horn, and changing out the original horn for older FOTF?

The electronic horn recording is being swapped out with a legacy fleet style recording, while the "air horn" is the original, loud FOTF tone
