    I have made this once before following the recipe exactly as is and this time substituted wheat with bread flour. They were soooo soft and delicious. Couldn’t wait to eat. Never again from the stores 😊. Thank you again for such a great recipe and tips.

    Thank you so much Michael for sharing your recipe. My dad made these when I was a teen. Many years later I want to be able to make these buns for my kids as he had done. These buns also reminds me of the buns, along with "apple tarts" they served at Hong Kong bakery in Vanouver. Such happy memories of years ago. You are keeping these precious memories alive in me. Will learn this recipe and make the buns for my mother and siblings when I visit Vancouver after COVID. Merci mille fois! (1000 thank yous!!)

    I always adore the easy simplicity of your videos! :) Red Bean Bun is one of my favorite things. Actually in class the other day, my teacher asked each of us, "what's one thing you all really WANT, right now?", some people said cars etc. And i said, "i just want AnPan!" (red bean paste bread hehe)

      Plain flour is all purpose flour. Different country called it differently. You can opt out the vanilla sugar or just replace it with vanilla essence. Good luck and success.

      Yes, you can definitely use a bread maker for this recipe. Just follow the instructions for adding the ingredients in the order recommended by your bread maker’s manual (usually liquids first, then dry ingredients). Set it to the appropriate bread cycle, and you should get great results! Let me know how it turns out!

    Hello Michael I like the way you make the dough and also the way you bake , I did it at home and I did not make it meaning I failed, first the flour because I used all purpose flour or plain flour , and when it’s done making dough and steam it the color of the dough is not white and not fluffy so can you tell me what is the reason pls! I am not a good chef or baker but because I miss to eat this kind of stuff in the Philippines.so I want to make it at home and for my Scottish husband :-))) watching from Scotland and also hard to buy some of the ingredients here . Only plain flour , all purpose flour, wheat flour and bread flour, also self raising flour . And also is it necessary to buy a good brand of flour ???? Pls! Need your reply ?

      There is a different between this 2 recipes and texture wise. My steamed buns recipe cannot be baked.

      Gluten free flour doesnt work on this recipe. Unless the gluten free flour contain some sort of binders. You can look on the package ingredient list and see if any binders are listed. It is all depends on the production company. Please google it for more detail information. Good luck.

    I'm curious as to why you don't dissolve the yeast first. I followed your steam bun recipe, at first after the mixing was done the yeast was visible throughout the dough. It did rise properly, but it wasn't until I rolled out the bao that the yeast grains incorporated.

      Is instant yeast, you don't need to dissolve the yeast first. Making bread for so many times, never once I saw the yeast was visible throughout my dough. After kneading the dough for the first minutes or 2, the yeast would have dissolved by then when come in contact with any moisture.

      You can replace butter with margerine but not oil unfortunately. You can use full wheat flour, then it won't be the same. You are taking something oringinal change it completely. No chinese bakery uses whole wheat for this recipe. You are creating something different, so I wont be able to help you with that. Good luck.

      Hold long it can be kept depend on how you store it as the temperature and humidity play a important role...

      A white wheat flour made only of the endosperm and whole wheat includes the germ and bran. Bread flour is just a fancy name that used by some production company. Bread flour does have a slightly higher protein content. Either one of this flour will work just fine.

      Bread flour is not a fancy made-up name. It is a established category with a specified protein (gluten) content. Any recipe worth trying should specify whether flour to be used is bread, all purpose or cake
      flour. Should be specified without the need to query the author.

      It just a filling for the bread. You can replace it with anything you want, like ham and cheese, sausages and etc...

    How much time its need to become a double in the first and after?

      It depends, with me my room temperature was around 20°C and it took so 1 hour an 30 minutes for the dough to become double in size. There are ways to to make it rise faster. You may want to check on google.

      Wheat flour here, may known as white flour in some other countries. It has higher gluten (protein) content than plain flour/all-purpose flour. For more detail information please google it.I am using wheat flour for this recipe, simply to show you that it works great if you have the right amount of ingredients. In this case wheat flour can absorb more liquid than the other flours. Thus you need more fluid. Hopfully you guy can experience the differences.As you can see in this video it works wonderful...
