JVC RC-M70JW The antenna mounting & Cassette door gear fix

- This M70 was really in good condition except for the chopping radio sound. The owner told me that when it was in the stereo mode, sound from left side cut and start makes very difficult to listen to the music. At the first condition check, I found out that both antennas were wobbling, it seemed like the mounting of the antenna was damaged. So this time I used the strong plastic bond to create a tight mounting for the antenna base and replaced both antennas to the new one. At the same time, I restore the cassette door's slow open motion. Whenever I see the M70, most of them have the same problem. The cassette door opens abruptly, not smoothly and elegantly. And this is coming from the design flow of the cassette door gear, that what I think.
The front clear lens for the tuner scale was also in good shape. Not much scratches and scuff marks. And it was attached firmly to the body. So I decided not to remove this clear lens, and try to wash only other parts of the front case.
The cassette deck main belt was also replaced. By the way, inside of this M70 was untouched by anyone. So I was able to check the original wiring and setting from the bottom to the top. I took many pictures and notes. I am sure that will help me a lot on the next M70 work.
In the film, I had a cough and sneeze from the dust. Probably I have had been exposed too much dust during the boombox and other vintage electronics restoration. Even this M70 seemed almost dust-free, still, my dust-allergy reacted right away. So I am now wearing a mask to protect myself from dust. So should you.
At the end of the day, the clean sound was restored.
Enjoy!

With cassette door gears, the grease lubricant may have either dried out or evaporated over the years. A small amount of fresh grease to the gears should fix that.
Once again, you made this one good as new. Teddy, you are the man!
Thank you for your compliment on my work. This one was really in good condition, I needed to adjust here and there, but it was nothing compare to the other super damaged boomboxes.
@@teddyhashee That boombox won't end up in landfill for a long time (hopefully) thanks to you. Bet the owner is happy now.
hello teddy as usual really with your video I learn every day and I became an amateur repair and restoration every time I give life to a machine I feel his story thank you very much
Great to hear! Go go restore vintage machines!!
That M70 was really in good shape!. Esp the speakers. Climate cont storage is very important. Well done Teddy
👍👍👍👍🤩
Thank you Bobby!
Good work! That is the loudest 80's boombox of the midsize size category.
Thank you for your compliment!
Another splendid job there Ted. Using that two part plastic resin to repair and create a more stable mount for the antenna bases. Just outstanding! As well as repairing the cassette door slow mo eject mechanism. Top notch job sir!👍👍
Ralph, thank you for your compliment on my work!
M70 JVC I bought garage sale about 30 years ago, in very good condition and cosmetic too everything works, except on stereo mode only one loudspeaker works- amplifajer burned.
Probably you need to replace cap and transistor, etc.. Hope you will be able to get it back to the nice condition again.
Haha it's easy for you to say,no one in my area fix vintage electronics any more.Where you live if I may ask?
¡¡ MIRA QUE PULIDA, ESA GRABADORA ESTA SUPER PODEROSA !! Little fixed this needs to be fine. Does everything OK.
nice smooth door action there
Thank you for the comment!
I have a slight memory of that I had a radio like this 25 years ago.
Everything looks similar to how I remember it.
It's a very nice radio, especially with the dual VU meters. Aren't they backlit too?
JVC RC M90-KING OF BOOMBOX!!!-
Thank you for the great information.
I have a JVC RC-838 JW ll Biphonic on the way too me. Supposedly it is in good shape, but I'll be contacting you and sending it your way even if it is "perfect" as I want LED / Bluetooth installed and just an overall check (cassette belt/speed calibration) while you have it cracked open. Love your videos. Maybe I'll send you may perfectly working 8 track jambox too, haha.
Wow, Jerry. You will get a great boombox. It has cool looking!!
Amigo Teddy, passando para deixar meu abraço e meu LIKE!!! Valeu irmão!!!
ted you still at it in 2024? where are you at? I have a few boxes that need this treatment.
Hi Teddy, nice job!
I have the RC-M70 also but no antennas. Do you know where I can purchase them? Thanks!
hello. great video. I'm subscribing. I have this jvc M70, but the VU meters don't move. only gentle movements... can I fix it? what should I focus on or do I need to replace the VU meters themselves?
Добротная техника,на все времена
Thank you for your compliment!
Great job! Nice JVC.!
Thank you for your compliment!
Love your work! You have inspired me to dust off a few projects I have. I would like to know where you source your drive belts? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thank you for the compliment. I buy mix universal belt from ebay, and if I need paticular belt such as flat medium size belt etc.. I buy from here

¡Que buen trabajo! Felicitaciones. Que buena radio por lo demás.👍
Thank you !
Thank you for sharing these! May I ask, why do you tape up the radio tuner section in this restoration when you are cleaning it in the sink? It looks like you didn't in the earlier ones.
This one was in good condition that means the lens panel was securely attached to the body and difficult to remove it. If I use force to remove it probably I made some scratches, scuff marks, or worst case some of the edge will be cracked. Inside of the lens which is black steel panel was also clean and there was almost no dust. So I decided not to remove this lens. That was the reason. The other M70, most of them were in very dirty and bad condition, the glue of the lens was dried out that makes lens removing easily.
@@teddyhashee thanks!
you are a genius
Thank you for your compliment!
Teddy creo que has aprendido a tener mucha paciencia con estos artículos.Felicitaciones quedó de peluche!
Cuando no se consigue las bandas de exactas para la casetera,cómo le haces, gracias.
Thank you Paulo for your compliment on my work.
About belt, I have many size of the belt, so I may be find most matching belt for the cassette deck. And then I adjust motor speed for the new belt. Most time I have no problem with this method. Also if the belt is still in good condition, but it became a little loosen up, then I use boiling water to bring it back to the original size. If non of this work, then I search the online shop to get the most closest size of the belt for it.
@@teddyhashee,muchas gracias lo pondré en practica.
great working .. keep it please sir ...
Thank you Hamoda!!
Question for you. How much this one is still working on and the cosmetic looks nice too?? do you still have this one on hand? Do you the length and the height? Thank you
Superrrrrrrrrrrrr Teddy and JVC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your compliment on my work!
"damn you spring clip, damn youuuuu. I will get you sooner or later!" Haha. Very inspiring videos, people throw this stuff away and it bothers me but this encourages people to keep and fix things when it breaks and they don't make very good stuff like they used to. I recently found a JVC-S7JW in a thrift store. I can't find much information about it but it's nice and heavy. The left speaker is weak. Your vids will help me try to fix it, I think might be kind of rare. Do you know much about this RC-S7JW model?
Check this one

probably it will help you.

I have to fix my sub woofer on my Sharp WQ-T354 it has cracks around the rim. Have to open it. Hope I do a good job!
I hope you will be able to fix the woofer!! Thank you for the comment.
Which boombox is good for sw radio reception?
For the SW, I have not tested well. I usually test only AM and FM even it has 4-bands radio reception. Sorry I can not answer to your question.
You sir, are the man !
What is the blue scale above the cassette recorder for? When you had it apart, it looked like the row of red LEDs, it’s pcb wired to the cassette drive’s pcb - “eye candy” digital VU meters, (as it has analog ones at end of radio scale)
That is for the cassette tape. It can search the beginning of the song and play it. Not for the meters.
😃 It has that feature! Why didn’t we see it working when you were playing the demonstration cassette in it? The cassette/radio stereos (boom boxes) in the USA are more like HIFIs with additional functionality - compared to ours in the UK that are very basic (and boring)
like always buen trabajo.!!!!!!
Thank you for your compliment!
@@teddyhashee wondering why this model of JVC Cost so much money?
😮Wow❤Beautiful Radio ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic!

Thank you!
perfect job!
Thank you for your compliment!
I see this one you are fixing for someone.... do you own all the other ones I had seen you fix ??? or do you just fix and repair for people.... and how...HOW do you remember where everything goes ????
Most of the boombox in the video are 1) my clients' 2) I already sold it. So I do not own much of them. I am not a collector but rather than a restore guy.
And second question, I always put all parts in the small container and wrote memo with it, took many pictures along with my hand drawing. Plus video. So that is why I can put everything back together.
Grail 👍🏼
