    Just traveled both ways on the CAT, excellent way to travel to Nova Scotia. I traveled there between June 24th and July 4th 2018

  • @Dadcam_Can
    @Dadcam_Can 6 лет назад +3

    The CAT is one fast boat. It can get you from Yarmouth, NS to Bar Harbour, ME a lot faster than driving the land route through New Brunswick. I remember they used to even allow gambling on board before any casinos opened in the Maritime provinces.

    That Cat ferry is huge. The only ferries I've been on were little ones that took people from St. Charles Mo to Grafton Illinois.

    I'm so glad you had a good passage. We took the cat a few years ago. It was a nightmare. The seas were so bad , even though it was a beautiful day when we left shore. We were sick for a week. We had to cancel all plans. The port authority said it happens often.

    We've been on this kind of ferry from New Brunswick to Nova Scotia - it was awesome and a real time saver but not super economical from cost point of view. Great break for the driver, though.

    Did they have gambling machines onboard? I rode on the old cats 20 years ago and they did. It was rough and everybody was throwing up beside me and all of a sudden WHAM. We hit something and the whole ship shuttered and gambling machines flipping over and ever body started screaming. I said damn we must have hit a whale. Captain claimed a wave, but it seemed a lot more solid of a hit. After 9/11 they sold all the cats off and it was 10 years before they got new ones. The cats I rode on went to China to run between islands.

    The ferry sucks now. I was there. Its was a 5 and a half hour ride then when it came back. 7 hours of sailing. They should use higher speed.

    You could do with flashing a little map up on screen when talking about traveling between places for us that are not from usa/Canada and don't know the geography that well. It's a hassle to have to pause the video and load a map up. Thanks for the video

    Will probably be months (several probably) before it would be an 'issue' for me; ... but I've wondered how fruit being "thrown away" was interpreted. From what I've heard/read, the problem with fruit is possible pest(s)/diseases being introduced; ... the majority of fruit I purchase is for smoothies, so wondered if having the fruit in 'smoothie' form with husks/peels/etc. trashed is allowed or still prohibited??? Any idea, thoughts???

    great video. I'm thinking in a couple weeks about driving all the way up to the tip of Maine and going to Hopewell rocks and work my way around through Lunenburg Digby Peggy's Cove all the way to Yarmouth. What did it cost to cross from Yarmouth to Portland if you don't mind me asking?

    Are non service dogs allowed...or must they remain in the van?

    • @cedarforest4621
      @cedarforest4621 6 лет назад

      Likely not. In BC, EVEN real service dogs from the US that are not approved by the BC government cannot leave the car.

      In Nova Scotia, as long as a service dog is certified as a service dog, people have the right to keep the service dog with them.

    • @cedarforest4621
      @cedarforest4621 6 лет назад

      In the galley on a ferry? Does the dog have to be certified in Nova Scotia, or can they be certified in the US? In BC, USA certified dogs, do NOT count. I am currently going through the paperwork to BC certify a US certified Canine Companion for Independence dog.
