It’s amazing what a flathead screwdriver will do. Find the compressor, there’s a relief valve to release at 110psi or so. Turn that screw clockwise to close it and you’ll know if your compressor is bad or the dryer is frozen. You can run with a frozen dryer but not a tired compressor. The tricks you learn off-road trucking opposed to highway
I was broke down in Nashville for nine days a few months ago. Certain parts are very hard to get, in fact CFI sent one of the parts for my truck from Joplin because the dealership could not get the part.
I feel your pain and I feel for y'all . Breaking down is not a boat load of fun. Especially in winter. Get to the motel get awarm meal and relax. All the best. FRANKIE L.I.
I am so sorry about the truck but good thing ya’ll got a hotel that is crazy that y’all waiting that long I am glad you and billy jo had alot of fun also I am sp thankful to be driving again
Sounds like the air line from compressor to air dryer is froze with some ice a little air line alcohol works great for that. I drive up here in Montana and when it's cold sub zero that alcohol is a life saver
Take the line off the compressor and put some air line de icer in it. Hook it back up and see if it’ll take care of it. Had this same thing happen in the cold and that solved the problem.
I’ve got to give you Dave and your GF a shoutout because you seemed to stay cool and calm in this situation. A lot of drivers would be yelling and screaming and saying, “This is unacceptable from any trucking company and I should be treated a lot better than this!!!” Hopefully people can learn something from this video.
To be fair, that is unacceptable. A trucking company as big as CFI should be on top of it, they should be proactive and check on the status of the tow truck and if it’s not coming then get another company to come out.
@@DinanBMWm5 umm cfi is one of the top companies as far as taking care of the driver during a breakdown, they aren't in control of how long the tow truck takes, obviously you don't know what you're talking about....
@@DinanBMWm5 Dave’s breakdown happened in winter weather conditions . That tow truck driver may have had to go to an emergency call instead, like a jackknifed truck in the highway. Those calls are usually from law enforcement and they get top priority.
When you drop a trailer at a dock the trailer tires should be slid all the way rear. I learned that as a forklift driver when someone left the tires at 41' and the nose of the almost empty trailer went to 16' above ground, and the DOT bumper sat on the ground.
If your company is loading such heavy freight then YOUR COMPANY should make it clear that tandems must be slid back, and a way to verify that they are.
I had a delivery on the 8th or 9th in Madison Wisconsin, I agree it was super cold. My dog loved playing in the snow though. I’m headed to Lancaster Texas tomorrow to avoid the pending storm system hopefully it will be a little warmer then Springfield Missouri. When I saw you in pa we talked about trucks breaking down, sorry to hear y’all’s truck broke down. I hope y’all got back on the road quickly.
Hey Dave I love ur positive attitude towards everything. Even when u were a newer driver you still acted goofy and didn't let the fear get to ya. Very admirable.
Back when I was I kid, we had, not far from where I lived, a pond, that was designed to collect a lot of rainwater to be used for putting out fires. The firetrucks could pump water directly from the pond in case of a nearby fire. I've never seen it more than 1/4 full and the sides of it was in an angle of almost 45 degrees. (As i remember). At winter when the pond was frosen solid we kids would run our bikes down the sides as fast as possible and onto the ice. In hindseit, very dangerous... but very fun! :-)
Awwww man! Sucks that happened. Wish I'd known, you're only a few miles from where I live and my dad is a diesel mechanic. A great one at that. I could've shown you around the area and where the best food is at! Haha!
KW and Paccar are in a huge parts shortage. Ive never seen it like this. Ive been with Danny Herman Trucking for the past 10 years as the ER breakdown coordinator. We also use the T-680s. Hope you guys get out of the motel soon! Tell CFI you want a rental car to the nearest terminal for another truck :)
Sucks to hear that happened. I’m only about a half hour drive away from where you guys broke down. Hopefully things improve and you guys are back on the road soon!
Sorry to hear and see this, it is nice to see you guys have fun out there even in a bad situation. Hope ya'll get back on the road soon and take care out there with this crazy weather.
My company truck did the samething, the air compressor was bad. They thought it was the air dryer but that was not the problem. A day and a half to get it fixed. Good luck and be safe.
I've been stuck in a hotel waiting on repairs before, but longest time I've been in one was 3 days. Cold weather like that is a true test for your equipment.
That pickup in Milwaukee isn't far from where I live. Nice to see you in WI, sorry you broke down here though. Glad you both had some fun on the ice, make the best of a bad situation. Hope things go better next time you're here.
Sorry to see you guys broke down. Glad to see you got some fun out of it with the frozen lake. You both are braver than me lol! Hope they get you up and running soon! Take care!
You guys crack me up!!!! Glad you guys have each other and know how to have fun and make the best out of a not so fun situation! You two are a great couple & a great team! We absolutely adore Billie Jo!🙂
I literally had that same problem (air dryer froze), while in Altoona, IA on January 3rd. Was gonna get towed to the shop that was about 50 yards from where I parked, but it had warmed up enough that dryer thawed out and was on the way; was one day late to receiver, but that’s trucking.
Probably the air pressure governor. Sometimes a bang on it with a hammer can fix it. Happens when it gets really cold. Easy fix if you can get the part.
Welcome to Wisconsin, come to visit and stay till the ice melts. LOL. I'm about 100 miles north of Milwaukee and today we were outside commenting on how nice it was outside although it was a balmy 30 degrees out
Dave, this is as close as you've ever been to me. I live in Northern Illinois near the Wisconsin border. Gurnee, where six flags Great America is, is just fifteen minutes east of me. Nice to know that you good ole boys got to experience sub zero temperatures with us.

There is a valve in the air dryer that can freeze up. I have had it happen several times. It just takes some time pumping the pedal and taping on the valve to get it to work. It Sucks!!!

1) buy a good spray bottle Don't get a cheap one
2) buy a jug of Prestone De-Icer
winter windshield washer fluid.
It take care of frozen doors, deep freeze,ice/frost, streak free

Just spotted a CFI truck by a casino I was at was hoping it was you but no deal. That’s truckin!
“Only other time my face was numb , it wasn’t due to weather.” Okay Dave I peeped that lol
Lol Dave drops some good one liners
Awe man. 5 days in the hotel room. God only knows how long the parts will take to come in. Can't wait for the next video.
That does suck, in November I was driving in Iowa up to Minnesota, but in the middle of nowhere, I hit a dead tire and blew my air tank and was stuck on the side of the highway for 36 hours and about 32 hours in my heat stopped working
"The only other time my face was numb, it wasn't due to weather."
I see what you did there. Lol
this is so sad omg but at least your together
You were only a few miles from where I did CDL school. I yard dog about 30 minutes Northwest of milwaukee
Hope you have a better time in Wisconsin
i love it here in in Wisconsin
I work at a kenworth dealership I sold 3 air dryers just today something has to be up with them
I grew up there. Some really nice areas and some areas you shouldn't go to even during daylight.
Once I saw they were driving on Sherman 😬
Bringing me back to the days my stepdad used to take his Lincoln Aviator out on to frozen lakes, I thought for sure we were gonna go through 😅
What a bummer you guys :(
Hopefully you enjoyed the brief warm up here in Wisconsin lol
That pond was solid all over can tell by the color and sometimes when ice cracks it’s cuz it’s growing not always cuz it’s not solid but yeah I bet you could have driven a car on it lol 😂
Usually the edges will be the least frozen part.
Welcome to my city! I was wondering when you were gonna do a video in Milwaukee! Stay Blessed 🙌
I love watching your videos man! Sorry this happened to you guys, if I recall Darien isn’t to far from Rockford, IL (My Hometown) be cool but unfortunate if that was the case.
