The Magic Little Fish (O Peixinho Mágico) is a 2D animation project, drawn frame by frame, made with funds from the Paulo Gustavo Law.
How much is a shop gift worth?
And how much is the life of a little fish worth? What about an entire forest?
Do they have the same value? And how does all this affect our lives and those of the rest of the planet?
Explore the adventure of the Magic Little Fish through a 2D animated narration, together with a documentary with adapted text in a simple and entertaining language.
‘The idea for the project came from questioning how pet shops offer little fish in plastic bags as a gift on Children's Day. If we teach our children that the life of a little fish has the same value as a free gift, any other toy or even a cheap decorative object, how will this child view all the raw materials/resources that come from nature? Will forests, animals, rivers and oceans be seen as objects that can be discarded or as brothers and sisters, part of a whole on which our survival also depends? Through a 2D animated narrative, The Magic Little Fish tells the story of a little fish with superpowers, who, when he's happy, brings the rains, helping the whole forest and his friends, together with his mum Yara, or Mother Water - who represents the Environment, and when she is disrespected, she brings climate catastrophes - her forest friends and two clowns - who make the analogy of circuses that used to use animals as objects of entertainment - narrate the story, plus the documentary with language and art aimed at children. ’
