Greetings again Oscar! The Davy Crockett with two coaches and the bobber caboose were offered in Canada in 1967 as a 'Centennial' passenger set (in reference to the country's 100th birthday that year). It was also the year I was given one of these delightful locos for Christmas! The Old Time coach was offered in the US in American Pullman green with NMRA couplers through a firm known as A.T.T. (American Train and Track). I have one of these as well. The Crockett will always be an all-time favorite for me!
Good morning Garry, thanks for watching and terrific information, especially about that green ATT Pullman version of the all-time coach, a lovely item to have in your collection. Take care. Oscar
Lovely set.....Got the loco and caboose at Christmas '67...coaches weren't available then (in the UK at least), as you said the range was withdrawn two years earlier. I was fortunate enough that the shop where my parents bought it from had older stock. I was re introduced to the whole train when I came over to England on contract in 2019. I managed to buy the loco and four coaches (purchased separately) plus the Railway Children coach. The items are there in keeping with a family member. I have the old time caboose which I bought here in South Africa about 8 years ago. Hopefully it will be united with the full set over there in about three months time. I am relocating and bringing my train collection with me which I have been building up these past ten years or so. Now I can start planning that dream layout I have been promising myself, which your videos have given me the inspiration to build. Thanks for the great imagery and attention to detail. Brian
Good morning Brian, thanks again for watching it's great to hear you've enjoyed watching my videos. It must be very exciting making plans for your new railway and sounds like a lovely collection of items you have acquired in the last few years. Take care. Oscar
Great work! I had this set as a Christmas present in 1962. It remains the best Christmas present I've ever had. The cowcatcher was always derailing hence why it was glued on. My model had magnadhesion as well as smoke. I was also at Birtley!
Good morning Michael, great to hear you have a set as a child must have been a wonderful moment I'm wrapping that as a gift. Hope you enjoyed Birtley. Thanks for watching take care. Oscar
Hello again Oscar. I just remembered that one of my fellow Canadians has a RUclips channel, SMT Mainline & about 2 years back he did a repair job on a vintage Tri-ang " Davy Crockett " locomotive. I hope that Harrison doesn't mind me mentioning this, anyway, go to his RUclips channel SMT Mainline & look through his videos, scroll down until you see an old " Davy Crockett" Tri-ang locomotive brought back to life. I think you'll like what Harrison did with that " Davy Crockett" that he fixed up. Also recently on his SMT Mainline RUclips channel, a rather dire condition Hornby Class 43 BR Intercity 125 unit was restored to operating condition.
Thank you for a great look at the Davy Crockett loco and coaches Oscar. It was another of those sets that I never really wanted but of course I would love one now. It is great to see the progress on the layout, it's a lot of work I know. I am now into the 5th. month since I was able to run a train around my layout but I am pleased with my progress on the scenery. I thought that your cardboard camera holder was inspired. I even thought of making a copy but it wouldn't work as my tracks run too close together. Your 3D printing seems to know no bounds. I hope you will share with us the finished and painted old time coaches. All the best, David.
Good afternoon David, glad you enjoyed that look at this brightly coloured model locomotive definitely fun item. I've been going to make a holder for a phone for sometime, the trouble with the iPhone and lots of the mini cameras is that they overhang the rails and collide with items around the railway. I have bought several of those budget, many cameras in recent times and have never got on with them when the battery run out and something would never charge again after about a month. And I've tried to get an SQ 11. I think it's called a couple of times. Both have been fakes when they have arrived. I wasn't expecting very much for these type of cameras, but the fakes barely recorders an image at all. Ive been looking at a DJI camera action 2 its way more expensive than I'm comfortable with for that type of camera, but I think it only measures 40 x 40 mm and 20 mm deep and the lens is mounted centrally, But has poor reviews for use in low light light / artificial light. And then, I always think I would be better off investing the money in another toy train!!! The coaches with a 3-D printed steps will be on Sunday video. Thanks again. Oscar
Well, I honestly haven't been indulging in any "substances", but I can't help wondering if it would be possible to re-engineer one of the Tri-ang diamond crossings to allow the three rail Dublo track to cross it. I guess that the first question is whether or not the rail heights are a close enough match to allow them to be physically joined, then you'd have to make sure that both tracks are completely isolated from one another, and then of course you'd need to add a centre rail. I suspect that it may be a lot more difficult than it seems on the surface. As a final point, please stop apologising for boring us with the catalogues - for those of us of a certain age, they're nothing less than fascinating nostalgia.
Good morning Roger, Glad you're enjoying the catalogues and he's older model railway items, interesting idea I've seen it done by others. But I'm not sure it's a route I'm going to go down. I had considered incorporating a crossover from the two rail to the three rail using the overhead system, but I've come to the conclusion time is just too short, possibly more rewarding things to spend time on. Thanks again take care. Oscar
ho Oscar, great to see the Davy Crockett, i remember these when they came out and my mum bought me one for christmas in 1963, i do know the earlier coaches did not have seating and were not lined as i had three of them, back then you were lucky to get a loco like this as a present, the later coaches also had single axles and not the earlier type, i believe this was a cost cutting exercise.regarding the Frontiersman set i think it escaped the catalogues, i still have one of these locos at the age of 70.
Morning Peter, great to hear you had the locomotive for all that time, a terrific item to have. I think you may be right about the lack of seats in the coaches others have mentioned it to, Tri-ang were always up for a bit of cost-cutting. Thank you again take care. Oscar
Thanks Oscar, always good to see the detail of models I've never had. The 'new' smoke being introduced in that catalogue would have been the original 'Seuth' units which were basically a brass tube with a filament in. They had a single wire connecting back to the 'live' brush and were earthed through their mountings. I see that the Jinty-based chassis they used had already been redesigned to take a seuth unit below the chimney, as well as having the spaces for magnadhesion that you pointed out. I now need to look again at my Jinty fleet - I don't think any of them have magnadhesion, or the spaces to fit it, so they're perhaps older than I thought! Regards. Mike
Hi Mike, thanks for the info about the smoke unit, I think I might be a little bit nervous of that old type smoke unit getting so hot inside such a delicate body. But if imagine it could've been persuaded to make big clouds of smoke, it would've looked rather impressive. I wonder if the new style smoke/steam units with the use of the e-cigarette/vaping technology could be reworked to make something to fit in one of these, an engineering project beyond my capabilities, I fear. It's odd that didn't fit the traction magnets to these, Maybe a cost thing? I haven't found this model mentioned with magnadhesion in any of the catalogues I have of the time. I think those old Jintys with the original chassis and the solid wheels, along with the princesses really do run very smoothly with a satisfying feel from the controller, Take care. Oscar
Hello Oscar. Thanks very much for showing your Tri-ang " Davy Crockett" locomotive. I remember seeing one of these in the toy department of the Woodward's Department Store in New Westminster, British Columbia during the Christmas season 1971. I thought that would have been cool thing for my Super 4 layout, but being a tweener boy with limited pocket money there was no way that I could afford to buy a " Davy Crockett" locomotive. I like the " Old Time" coaches you have to go with the steamer & how you've 3D printed some verandahs for the coach ends. Great video.
Hi Oscar. My Davey Crockett and old time coaches have arrived and they really are great models. Incidentally, Tri-ang's Davey Crockett bears a striking resemblance (albeit with a longer boiler) to a South Australian Railways X class 2-6-0 locomotive built by Baldwin in the USA in the 1880s.
Good afternoon Ken, terrific to hear your models have arrived safely and that you're pleased with them, they are a lovely group. Thanks for the info about the locomotive built by Baldwin. Take care. Oscar
Thanks for more interesting coverage. I can't track my copy of the next edition catalogue, but I seem to recall the Jinty went to Magnadhesion in 1963 and did the Davy Crockett since it used a variation of the Jinty chassis. One of the coaches in the Railway Children set used a teak finished version of these old time coaches as I recall. The locomotive was in the Australian supplement catalogue leaglet for a few years after 1965. Demand might have been higher here or they were just trying to sell unsold stock.
Morning John, I'm not sure if it got Magnadhesion, in the catalogues I have it's not listed as a feature for this model but is available with or without smoke, however, with Tri-ang, anything is possible... interesting about the Australian supplement leaflet you mention. Pat Hammonds book story of Rovex, volume one indicates that parts were sent out to Australia and assembled by Moldex, between 1962 and 67 both smoking a non-smoking available, with about 2500 combined been made over the period. Thanks again for watching and information. Oscar
Hi Oscar ,,, Davey my first Triang Locomotive and set along with the Dock Switcher set ,, now i have 3 sets of each ,,, including Caboose ,, Davey introduced for the Canadian Market ,, A wonderful performer ,,, i purchased at my latest train show ,, got the complete Canadian Pacific Passenger train with locomotives too ,,
Thank you again Rob. Glad you enjoyed seeing this terrific locomotive from Triang, sounds like you've made some great acquisitions for your collection. All the best. Oscar
Absolutely fantastic to see the layout, locomotive & rolling stock from a new angle. Really impressed with the makeshift 'Videowagon'. You may have to get that patented 🤣 Really enjoyable watch. Thanks. Darren
Thanks for the video. My brother and me had this set when we were boys and I think he still has it (although I remember the loco being a bit beaten up! ) I've recently purchased a Davy Crockett loco which is in reasonable condition and also a few of the smoking cars. Regarding the seating, I'm just wondering if some of the coaches were produced without it (as was the case with the short GWR clerestory coaches). I have one coach with an interiors and one (the later version without the brown lining) with no seats. I've also seen photo's of the same carriage without seats. It just doesn't seem likely that so many of the carriages have had their seating removed by their owners for no apparent reason!
Hi, I think you may be right, definitely a possibility these were produced without seating units. I don't think it really distracts from the model without the seats, they are just a great fun, looking items for the railway. Thanks again take care. Oscar
I quite like that it's very quirky ,I do like the idea of the incline on the other line there. Them 3D printed items are brilliant very clever stuff. Was nice to finally put a face to the voice the other day was very nice to meet you will no doubt see what you bought from the D,A,T conservatory. Brian.
I really really wanted one, but my dad wasn't a fan, so i said i was going to save up and get one, but with only 1shilling a week and all the other pressure on pocket money, I'm still saving!!!! (Now in my 70s). Oh well. Love the 3d printing it will make it look great. Your very cleaver. Eddy xx
Hi Eddy, thanks again for watching and taking the time to write this terrific comment, it's definitely put a big smile on my face this afternoon. The coaches with the 3D printed steps will be in this Sundays video. Take care. Oscar
Good morning Oscar That was a good opening shot with the mobile camera mount, nice to see a low level view. Also some nice work in creating the end railings for the other two coaches (cars). I don't think the loco will have too much a problem pulling four of them, as I use modern track I've removed the magnets from all my old locos and they still out pull some of the modern ones. Cheers Rob.
An enjoyable view of a lovely loco, not one that I wanted as had my eye on many other items. I believe it was a set, the number was probably between RS 30 & RS50, as I would have liked the blue Pullman, which was RS50 something. Nice to see the railway taking shape and one day you get to enjoy the fruits of your labours.
Good morning Oscar, the old timer always reminds me of Chitty Bang Bang in those colours, yours certainly is a great runner. Your veranda reproduction is very impressive. Excellent fun. All the best to you
Great video this morning Oscar, nice locomotive overall and especially with the colours it has on it it looks really good, I did recently see another youtuber restore one of these.
The opening tracking footage was excellent. It brings the models to life chasing them along like that. Your 3D coach railings look good too and it will be nice to see the loco with a rake of 4. There is also a red old time caboose that wasn't in the catalogue, maybe it came later with the set. 😊
Good morning Oscar, thank you for another great video. I love the American locomotive and coaches, I never had one as a lad in the 1960s, my parents couldn't afford to buy new railway items for me so I made do with second hand models but I still had many hours of fun . Happy days indeed.well the sun is coming out now in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Stay safe Oscar. 👍
Good afternoon Pauline, glad you're enjoying a bit of fun with the camera on the wagon, I shall try and do a bit more of it in the future. I'm sure I've read somewhere that there was a set with this locomotive and coaches plus the caboose, but was only available for the Canadian market, I do have the caboose, I've run it in an earlier video ruclips.net/video/YupoaaiPzDM/видео.html a stunningly, a very delicate item, definitely would not have lated long at playtime. Thanks again take care. Oscar
Good morning Oscar. Fascinating model which I don’t remember seeing before. I find it very interesting that Triang looked at different railways to model at that time. It certainly looks impressive running around. Thanks for sharing. Roy.
Good morning Roy, glad you found that interesting, Tri-ang definitely did try to appeal to a very wide market at the time. These must've been quite an exciting looking items on the shelves & windows of toy/model shops anywhere on the planet at the time... Thanks again take care. Oscar
Thanks David. Great to hear you remember these from the catalogue and enjoyed a look at this fabulous item in action on the railway. I'm not sure how long these would've lasted at playtime. Take care. Oscar
Always fancied a Davey Crockett but only ever saw it in a catalogue . I think it was quite short lived . I really fancied it because at the time Casey Jones was on the TV . The Cannonball express looked just like Davey Crockett . I made do with my Black Jinty and two Pullmans . Imagination is a powerful thing aged 6
Thanks for the weekly video upload Oscar. Although when I was young and starting out in model railways, TC never really caught my imagination. But now, 60 years later I can appreciate the appeal. Fascinating to note the use of a Jinty chassis without magnadhesion.
Hi, Premi Kyam, thanks again for taking the time to watch, great to hear you enjoyed the video and a look at this old time locomotive, the TC range was an interesting group of items and very colourful, it definitely didn't appeal to everybody, Tri-ang was trying very had to appeal to a very wide and varied group of consumers in many markets. Take care. Oscar
Good morning David, great to hear emoji to find yourself a good one, it really is one more unusual and very attractive items from the Tri-ang range. Oscar
@@oscarpaisley I have always had a soft spot for the transcontinental range , one of my other favourites is the Bud railcar which I have a good copy of.
Hi Oscar. Thanks for another great video. I recently bought a Davey Crockett with two old time coaches and an old time caboose, which I am hoping will arrive from the UK this week (I live in Tasmania). Interestingly, here in Australia Dave Crockett was apparently also sold as "Ned Kelly", with a "Ned Kelly" name plate sticker applied over the top of the "Davey Crockett" name plate on the loco cab, although the only locos I every saw in the model shops were all Davey Crocketts. Given that the real Davey Crockett is regarded as a frontier hero and Ned Kelly as a robber and murderer, it seems a very odd name for Tri-ang to have given the loco here. I wonder in anyone out there has a Ned Kelly loco they could photograph and share? As a side note, I recently acquired a red and silver R. 55 TC series single ended diesel in as-new condition and was very, very surprised when I removed the body to service the motor to find it was one of those twin motor models you featured in one of your earlier videos. Very odd. Cheers, Ken.
A very big Australian Triang collector would often display part of his collection in Melbourne exhibitions. Discussed the Ned Kelly version with him but he had never seen one. Ned Kelly a very polarising name in Victoria, especially with those with family connections to the area where the 1870-1880 events took place. Lots of RUclips vids with far more detail on the Ned Kelly story.
I've read about the Ned Kelly Name plates, in Pat Hammonds Book story of Rovex, Volume 1, there is no picture there either, and I've not seen a picture anywhere else either it would be great to see one. Lovely surprise finding your R.55 has the two motor set up for extra sound. Another one of Triangs very interesting models. Thanks again take care. Oscar Oscar
Is the 3d print for the old time coach available anywhere? I have the Tri-ang railway children set which has the same coach and its missing the veranda part.
Another great video. The relay boards for the 3 rail, are those relays bistable ones to switch the track power? I did a short video recently on that as it happens. Best wishes, Tom.
Hi the relays are of the latching variety (12V Miniature Latching Relay DPDT HFD2), I had used them on the previous layout on 14 sets of points to overcome a very poor continuity in the older system 6 point work, I found them to be excellent, they work very well with these Hornby Dublo electrically operated points, Hornby Dublo designed these originally with no ability to switch power to one track or the other so some control over switching is necessary so I'm reusing my old switches, I have had to obtain a few more in recent weeks 22 sets of points on the three rail. Also gives the ability for the point indicators with the switches, I will also be employing them to add additional robustness in continuity and point indicating lights on the series 3 section of the layout as time moves on, I'm not sure on a number of points, currently on the two rail I think about 18 at present. Thanks for watching take care. Oscar
@@oscarpaisley Thanks for your reply. I agree, they are excellent. I also use them for things like directional lighting on coaches and locomotives; it's effectively a new style Triang RT406 but a little bit smaller!
Hi Oscar ,, it seems the the Davey Crockett sets have all taken a beating over the years and have only ever seen 1 that was in great condition as a set but cant remember where i seen it. The davey crocket set i got in that joblot when i got the old single turntable and station buildings just after the lock down here in oz and does have the brass smoke unit and is actually a runner and the smoke unit works but boy oh boy what a mess as in to its condition otherwise. Theres no cow catcher no front wheels no head light no brass domes or whistles broken roof of the cab and no motion brackets on either side and no supprt wires tomthe chimney. Haha ,, soo much missing and broken to buy bits for it so i just figured it would be probably cheaper to buy another one with all the bits and just use this one as a good spares unit ie for the motor wheels and the smoke unit etc. The carriages i have 3 of and they aren't much better in condition and are very light weight. There is one that has the steps broken off them and the platform railing are missing on 3 ends of them. Hey i also noticed in the catalogue there are no steps in the carriages on either sides of the pics yet when i looked at my ones there are brown steps and as you can see there are the provisions for the brown steps but are not illustrated in the catalogue unless they are just not visible. The tender however that is with it is in really good condition with all of its paint and wheels and runs smoothly as well. Anyhoo Oscar keep ul the great videos coming as they are awesome. Cheers from John in Australia.
Good morning John, thank you again for taking the time to watch your Davey Crockett does sound like it needs a few parts! There are number of people offering 3-D printer parts of these, but even these are quite expensive, I think you're right it may be more cost-effective to purchase an entire model and yours for spares, definitely interesting pictures in the catalogue. It doesn't show yellow wheels in the illustration, I suspect these were made from proving models at the time. Take care. Oscar
I've had a Davy Crockett since I was a small kid! I only have one carriage though ( sorry railroad car). It's a bit buried away in a box of old horny/ triangle stuff ( and airfix 00 buildings), but I don't think mine had a smoke unit.
Hi Alan, Great to hear you have your original model from childhood, I think Pat Hammonds book story of Rovex volume one indicates that about 24,000 of these locomotives were made in total with only about 6000 of those made without smoke, nearly 4000 of the smoking version were used for the RS 37 frontiersman set. This makes the non-smokers a bit more of a rarity, perhaps. Thanks again for watching take care. Oscar
Hiya Oscar - @10:44 - Have you seen any of my Vids where I put my Go-Pro on to a Flat-Bed wagon & got some 'driver view shot' & did you get inspired by them by any chance??? 🤔🚂🚂🚂
Hi JimyJames, been thinking about doing this for awhile, but never got around to it. I bought a number of budget mini cameras, I've not had a lot of success with them, Had to send two back as they were fakes! Not having features or resolution, they are advertised with. Some of the more expensive pieces of equipment are quite large. I have my eye on the DJI product as it has the lens mounted centrally 40x40x22, but from what I read its low light (indoor/artificial) capabilities are questionable, and is very expensive for the limited use I would get from it. Thanks again take care. Oscar
Morning Mark, I'm going to have to go and have a look if it was used in the Joe 90 show, I have just been thinking about looking out some Joe 90 episodes. Haven't seen any for years, the show came up in conversation with someone the other day. Hope you've had a great Easter weekend. Oscar

Thanks. Darren
Thank you Darren great to hear you enjoyed that. Take care.
Oscar
Brian.
Good morning Brian, glad you like the look of the developments on the railway. It was great to meet you the other day.
Take care.
Oscar
I really really wanted one, but my dad wasn't a fan, so i said i was going to save up and get one, but with only 1shilling a week and all the other pressure on pocket money, I'm still saving!!!! (Now in my 70s). Oh well. Love the 3d printing it will make it look great. Your very cleaver. Eddy xx
Hi Eddy, thanks again for watching and taking the time to write this terrific comment, it's definitely put a big smile on my face this afternoon. The coaches with the 3D printed steps will be in this Sundays video.
Take care.
Oscar
Good morning Oscar
That was a good opening shot with the mobile camera mount, nice to see a low level view. Also some nice work in creating the end railings for the other two coaches (cars). I don't think the loco will have too much a problem pulling four of them, as I use modern track I've removed the magnets from all my old locos and they still out pull some of the modern ones.
Cheers Rob.
Hi Rob, glad you enjoyed opening shot and thanks for the info on the traction magnets.
Take care.
Oscar
An enjoyable view of a lovely loco, not one that I wanted as had my eye on many other items. I believe it was a set, the number was probably between RS 30 & RS50, as I would have liked the blue Pullman, which was RS50 something.
Nice to see the railway taking shape and one day you get to enjoy the fruits of your labours.
One of my favorites
Good morning Oscar, the old timer always reminds me of Chitty Bang Bang in those colours, yours certainly is a great runner. Your veranda reproduction is very impressive. Excellent fun. All the best to you
Good morning Mr Snooze, I know what you mean about those colours! Thanks again take care.
Oscar
Great video this morning Oscar, nice locomotive overall and especially with the colours it has on it it looks really good, I did recently see another youtuber restore one of these.
Good afternoon David, glad you enjoyed that. Definitely above colour scheme with these models..
Take care.
Oscar
Oscar
I’ve never seen one of these, I do remember them in the catalogue though.
Thanks David. Great to hear you remember these from the catalogue and enjoyed a look at this fabulous item in action on the railway. I'm not sure how long these would've lasted at playtime.
Take care.
Oscar
I've still got mine from the 60's damaged cab roof from mum kicking it across the lounge floor back in the day. I dunno cheers
Good afternoon Paul, great to hear you still have your original. I suspect a lot of these had a similar encounters.
Thanks again take care.
Afternoon Russell, thanks again that sounds like great fun a Jinty and two Pullmans and plenty of imagination.
Take care.
Oscar
Thanks for the weekly video upload Oscar. Although when I was young and starting out in model railways, TC never really caught my imagination. But now, 60 years later I can appreciate the appeal.
Fascinating to note the use of a Jinty chassis without magnadhesion.
Although just for the earliest period before the Jinty got magnets in 1963 production era onwards.
Take care.
Oscar
I managed to source a Davy Crockett from a guy in France in good condition one of my favourite triang locomotives.

Oscar
Oscar
Super Parowóz 🚂Pozdrawiam
Hi, thanks again for watching great to hear enjoyed it.
Oscar
An episode of joe90 he dreams he’s a sherif I’m sure Gerry Anderson used one of these in the scene very nice Oscar
Happy Easter
Mark
Morning Mark, I'm going to have to go and have a look if it was used in the Joe 90 show, I have just been thinking about looking out some Joe 90 episodes. Haven't seen any for years, the show came up in conversation with someone the other day.
Hope you've had a great Easter weekend.

@@oscarpaisleythe episode was ‘lone handed joe ‘
