I've tried all the combinations I could to avoid the mistakes of the "is it an l or a 1", enter, ctrl-enter, and so on and it hasn't worked on my dell latitude E5530 laptop. I am still locked out of my bios and can't flash it with what Dell says it needs (critical update they say). It is a descent laptop running windows 10 but everything I used to get it up and running I already had, except for the battery. BTW, is that Selma near Reedley?
Yes. it is Selma, next to Reedley. On some newer Dell models , we have had issues as well. BTW I was teaching at the adult schools in both Reedley and Selma, over 20 years. If you are familiar with RHS, I was in rooms, 701 and 707. Now back to the E5530, I understand that you tried everything. In those cases where everything was tried ..multiple times.. and still locked.. then I would call Dell support. transfer ownership to you and then they will give you the code to unlock the BIOS.
@@selmateacher7 Thanks for getting back to me even though the thread was quite old. I will probably have to contact Dell then if I decide it's worth the hassle. I am a RHS graduate, and also taught and retired from Parlier after 32 years but at the elementary level. Thanks again for your response.
@@MichaelPhillips-km2hf I wish Dell had a better solution than that. In class, almost all of the laptops that we receive via auctions will be unlocked as shown in the video. when that does not work, we have tried other ways, i.e. reset the BIOS, ... When that did not work , then we would be forced to contact Dell support, transfer ownership of the unit and then they would send a code. The last option took the most time, (on phone ) and was one of the reasons why it was the last option.
The dell laptop series I have is a Latitude E5440. I followed your instructions by pressing F2 immediately after turning on the power and the screen that came up is different than the one shown here. It has the same white box on the right with Settings, System Info. etc. but there’s no unlock button on the bottom of the page. Mine says Load Defaults, Apply (grayed out) and Exit. Any suggestions?
When the system boots up, do you see any text. Besides using F2, some units have used F11, F10, esc, or even the Delete key, but those other keys would be used only an Admin changed the default settings
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was about to recycle several donated laptops for our school! This information will help us provide technology devices to students who need them. Bless you!😊
It didn't work the first 5-6 times but once I've noticed something with the keyboard I realized how silly the problem was. The Laptop was "Qwerty" layout all covered with Azerty stickers, so I borrowed a USB Qwerty keyboard to avoid all surprises and it worked the first attempt. Thank you so much. (Dell Latitude 5490)
Does this process do a complete factory reset, or just remove the admin requirement? Will it leave the programs that were factory installed in tact or will you have to reload everything? Thank you for your time.
Note: on french Latitude laptops use QWERTY layout on the internal keyboard otherwise it won’t work, an external QWERTY keyboard won’t help, you need to actually type the letter z as a w instead for example. It worked that way for me, cheers!
@Beard Muscle Sorry to hear that. On some codes , it can be difficult to decode their letters and numbers as their zeros and ones look like the letters O and L or I. Please try both combinations or copy their code and paste it into a word processor document and change their font. This is what many of my students do.
I know it's been a while since you posted this, so hopefully you'll see it and have an answer. I did the process that you describe and it did remove the Bios password. However, it still has an Admin password that I can not clear. I even tried adding a Bios password back to it and doing the removal again, but no luck. Any idea of how to clear them both? Thanks in advance.
Hello , I have Dell E5530 with dell security manager on screen , but I cannot go more far , I try with power +F2 and not going no where , I try power +F8 then F12 and nothing , so what do you suggest? I don’t have another Dell laptop …help please ! Thanks.
That is true, but I am only helping. If a thief stills a Dell laptop, they would normally want to hack the Windows password and not even worry about the BIOS password. So they would run an app like OPHcrack or go through hacking the system's OS password tables to do that.
True indeed ! Hacking the windows password isn’t called hacking anymore, there are tools easy to use and with a bit of brains anyone can access a windows account ! ;-)
some units are harder to unlock than others. I would say try again as the ones looks like i or L and zeroes look like the letter O. Also some users try ctrl + ctrl + enter after keying in the code. You will find success eventually, because we have seen thousands of these in my classroom. Some do take a few tries. .
Worked for me. I thought it was n't going to but then i realised the characters in the provided unlock were not l's but 1's . The courier font non the site you go to plus my bad eyesight made me take 3 attempts when I could have unlocked it first time. Thanks for you useful video. I was half expecting a time wasting video but you are the real deal.
Have you encountered anu solutions for newer versions of the Dell Latitude Laptops I have a 5520 and the only key that pops up is for the hdd, which doesn't help. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Got an E6430 unlocked this way - and in fact, I've been unlocking many laptops with this same solution for years now! Mostly Dells, even an Acer if my memory serves me right.
Had a Dell latitude e5430 for about 3 or 4 years, I acquired it at a yard sale near my home at the time. Just stumbled upon your vid, trying to figure our how to fix it up for my use. I was so worried it had to be jailbroken or of the like by a technician who would later charge a lottah money. Thank you for your help!! - Shelby
Thank you so much! I have a desktop Dell 7020 and it would not boot from my SSD locked and I looked into the BIOs and saw it was locked. By following your tip I got it to boot. Btw it was set in legacy which it won't boot from until I unlocked it and set it to UEFI. Thank you again!
Hi Mr. Berry, thanks for your very informative video. Before I hit the laptop, I have a Dell Latitude 7390 2-in-1. After normal startup it comes to a basic grey on black screen named: Dell Security Manager, stating: "This comp. system is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password. Please type the system or administrator password." I of course have the system password, but not the admin password. Will your advice above work? Again thanks and keep up the excellent advice!! Best regards, Rob.
Thanks for the Video! This technique does not seem to work with the Dell Lat E6530. Have you ever tried this with an E6530 - or do I need to call dell? Will removing the MB Battery work with this laptop? Thank you!
You're welcome. .. hmm the E6530.. it seems that some have had success with that model. Did you push Ctrl+Enter when typing the generated key? On these newer dell's it won't work unless you press ctrl as well. If all else fails, you may need to contact Dell support.
Thank you Daniel. Worked for me with small adjustment on E5570. If your keyboard has national layout - you have to use US (QWERTY) layout when entering password followed by ctrl+enter key combination.
i dont even get a second password it just shows hdd (old) and i also cant even get to bios when i boot it just says dell security and that its password locked
Thank you very much. A note for anyone with a non-US Keyboard: I had to use the US keyboard and then enter with ctrl+enter. Tried quite a few times before it works :)
Thanks for the video although it did not work for myself. When I enter code and select get password it only comes up with the HDD drive password and no other ones. Can you please offer any further assistance?
Ouch. It seems that you have a system that has multiple security . This video is for the BIOS Admin password only, so you can reinstall the OS, upgrade, or format the HDD. I have other videos for Windows passwords, but for the HDD protection. No. You may format, erase , and delete partitions on that HDD. Once the drive is formatted, we no longer see any HDD passwords as all of the data on said HDD is gone after that.
I have a Dell Latitude laptop I acquired second hand and want to reformat the hard drive. I am running into needing administrative log in and password. Neither of which I have. I tried the steps and all the password that came up from the web site but was unsuccessful with unlocking the bios. Any suggestions?
Good question: got a hold of a Dell Inspiron 1525 (an older laptop) that has the "administration p/w required...." The System # is displayed. I tried the bios-pw site, and a couple of codes came up. But the real problem is that there is no text box to enter a p/w, right or wrong - " invalid p/w, press Enter to retry". Any suggestions? Thank you I tried holding / pressing F2 but system won't enter bios. 🤓 After a few attempts, the "press Enter to Abort" comes up, press Enter, then the laptop shuts down. Another method is to remove the CMOS battery for a while, reinstall it, and in the meantime the BIOS resets itself. If I have another similar Inspiron, a working 1420, would putting the HDD from the BIOS / admin locked laptop in the other laptop allow access to the HDD? I am not sure about the 1525s keyboard! It may not work properly! 😠😡
@@selmateacher7 tried a USB keyboard using the same codes, even trying the CTL+ enter, and trying some different keys (o or O for 0, caps instead of lower case ..) but no difference. The other similar website is more for European systems. Thank you 🤓 the 1525 allows 3 attempts, then "press Enter to Abort" and the "enter the code" if not entered within a few minutes, the laptop shuts itself off. These are Win Vista machines, DDR 2 with Duo Core CPUs so they are a bit old! Think the highest they can be upgraded to is maybe Win 8 / 8.1. Win 7 would be an improvement!! Not, keep editing this! I don't think the password is a BIOS one. As o not sure if removing the CMOS battery would do any good or not

That worked great! Thank you! Thank you! 5 stars!!!!
You're a freaking lifesaver!
Thank you so much for having this video available!! Logged into my old laptop and could NOT remember my password for anything.

I am a true believer in some of these tutorials...and I was definitely sceptical about this one...but it works!!

Straight to the point and works (if you press CTRL+Enter that is). Thank you!
Ctrl enter is the master entry!
that was the key on the latitude e6320!
Thanks. That was amazing!! I've managed to unlock mine😁
Awesome. Good to hear. Thanks for the comment.
It’s happening to me any suggestions
Thank you! Thank you!

Does this process do a complete factory reset, or just remove the admin requirement?
Will it leave the programs that were factory installed in tact or will you have to reload everything?
Thank you for your time.
It only removes the Admin password from the BIOS. I have other videos on how to do other things with your computers.
@@selmateacher7 , thank you. I will try it again tomorrow.
Note: on french Latitude laptops use QWERTY layout on the internal keyboard otherwise it won’t work, an external QWERTY keyboard won’t help, you need to actually type the letter z as a w instead for example. It worked that way for me, cheers!
I faced exactly the same difficulty, thank you!
Yes same on German ones. Always use QWERTY.
Thx a lot for this tips!
Thank you, this helped a lot!

THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU AMAZING I NEED YO SPREAD THE WORD OF YOU
Wow. Thank you. I am always happy to help.
@Beard Muscle Sorry to hear that. On some codes , it can be difficult to decode their letters and numbers as their zeros and ones look like the letters O and L or I. Please try both combinations or copy their code and paste it into a word processor document and change their font. This is what many of my students do.
Thanks so much i bought a storage unit auctioned off and that was one of the issues
Which model do you have? I will try to help.
At the beginning it did not work for me. Finally because my keyboard has a swissgerman layout. When I tried it with the US layout it worked. Great.
How did u switch it
@@isrraelmartinez7962 He may have used an USN ext. Keyboard with the US layout. That is what we use.
Awesome Dell Latitude E7450 Work🎉🎉🎉😊
Awesome.
Hello , I have Dell E5530 with dell security manager on screen , but I cannot go more far , I try with power +F2 and not going no where , I try power +F8 then F12 and nothing , so what do you suggest? I don’t have another Dell laptop …help please ! Thanks.
Power + f2? No.. Just power on the system, then please press F2 by itself.
Fantastic! Worked a treat with Latitude E5430, thank you so much
Awesome. Thank you for letting us know that it still works for the E5430. You're welcome and I hope you might subscribe.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
very nice, but now even theives can use the stolen hardware !
Thank you for the comment. True.
That is true, but I am only helping. If a thief stills a Dell laptop, they would normally want to hack the Windows password and not even worry about the BIOS password. So they would run an app like OPHcrack or go through hacking the system's OS password tables to do that.
True indeed ! Hacking the windows password isn’t called hacking anymore, there are tools easy to use and with a bit of brains anyone can access a windows account ! ;-)
Lorenzo Burigat The OPHcrack app does just that, it 'cracks' the Windows passwords for you. Very easy to do.
True but sometimes kids think they are smart and put a BIOS password on it and forget it
Thank you. You saved a dell latitude laptop that I'm donating to school kids who are in need.
You're welcome.
What if I followed all these steps and it is still saying password incorrect? Same computer as in the video.
some units are harder to unlock than others. I would say try again as the ones looks like i or L and zeroes look like the letter O. Also some users try ctrl + ctrl + enter after keying in the code. You will find success eventually, because we have seen thousands of these in my classroom. Some do take a few tries. .
I bet all that dislike is for the people who don't press Ctrl-Enter for the password they got to work. instead, they saw wrong password box pop up Omg
exactly ... me also the first time I didn't press Ctrl. After u r comment, I listen to the video again ..Thanks a lot :)
@@sabunishad i make Crel-Enter but not working. is there a reason for that?
@@mrnourbaha hi.. don't know . It work for me. Check u type the correct letters.. just like video say use the second password..
Ctrl enter doesnt work EITHER
worked on latitude 7490. Control enter was the key
Thank you for letting us know.
I am happy to hear that it worked.
Have you encountered anu solutions for newer versions of the Dell Latitude Laptops I have a 5520 and the only key that pops up is for the hdd, which doesn't help. Thank you.
Some have done a reset of the BIOS as seen at the dell support site
Thanks so much! Got an E6430 unlocked this way - and in fact, I've been unlocking many laptops with this same solution for years now! Mostly Dells, even an Acer if my memory serves me right.

Had a Dell latitude e5430 for about 3 or 4 years, I acquired it at a yard sale near my home at the time. Just stumbled upon your vid, trying to figure our how to fix it up for my use.
I was so worried it had to be jailbroken or of the like by a technician who would later charge a lottah money. Thank you for your help!!

Just used this process on an old Dell i5. Worked a treat.

You're welcome.
This is to reset or remove the BIOS Administrator password. I have other newer videos for removing other types of passwords from a system.
@@selmateacher7 OK, got that, don't know how to search well within youtube, tried to search while on your site, but nojoy...care to suggest a video?
THANK YOU!!! Worked on my Dell XPS!
Thank you so much! Had my doubts but it actually worked. Also had to hold CTRL + Enter after typing in the password.

Thanks, works great, Saves me a lot of time!!!
I am happy to hear that it helped.
Worked on a dell latitude 5591 with ctrl+enter. Thank you so much!
You're welcome.
the world should be full of helpful people like you
Thank you for the uplifting comment.
This also works for Dell Desktop computers. Use the second password like he said. Great tutorial, well done.
Thank you
i dont even get a second password it just shows hdd (old)
and i also cant even get to bios when i boot it just says dell security and that its password locked
Thank you very much. A note for anyone with a non-US Keyboard:
I had to use the US keyboard and then enter with ctrl+enter. Tried quite a few times before it works :)
Thank you
Thanks for the video although it did not work for myself.
I know it´s an old video and an old laptop but your video was a great help for us, so THANK YOU SO MUCH
I am happy it helped. I hope you might subscribe .
@@selmateacher7 i´ve been suscribed yet of course
Big Thanks! Worked on a 7490, because of Full Bios reset before or left CTRL+2x Enter (did both)
Awesome
I have a Dell Latitude laptop I acquired second hand and want to reformat the hard drive. I am running into needing administrative log in and password. Neither of which I have. I tried the steps and all the password that came up from the web site but was unsuccessful with unlocking the bios. Any suggestions?
In class, many times, we have to try multiple times as the codes are hard to see. Also, the zeros and ones look the same as the letters O, L, and i,
Good question: got a hold of a Dell Inspiron 1525 (an older laptop) that has the "administration p/w required...." The System # is displayed. 😠😡
Have you tried plugging in a USB keyboard to test?
As o not sure if removing the CMOS battery would do any good or not
@@j.lietka9406 I am sorry to hear that. You did the same things that we would do in class.
