***Update(July 14, 2020) I have been in touch with Sig and here is a brief summary of the updates: The batch that is currently being released: For improved accuracy they added an 11mm OD inner barrel, they also improved feed/belt mechanism. To improve the velocity they increased the inner valve and updated the trigger for a better feel. On the next batch: All the improvement listed above in addition to the beefing up the handguard and they switched from countersunk to low-profile screws. "I hope to have one of the 2nd batch model to complete my independent review".
One more question...two actually...were the 21 grain h&n slugs among what you tested? If so, what kind of accuracy would they get, despite the reduced velocity?
@@AirgunDetectives pyramyd air's b.b. posted about getting around 500 fps with 21 grain beeman kodiaks, but accuracy suffered too. The weight is throwing it off obviously, but I was wondering if the shape of a h&n slug with the same weight would have better results, especially considering the way it engages the grooves of the belt, and the rifling itself
This must be the best and most professional review of this gun to date. Thank you! I really appreciate very very much the effort put into finding the best suitable pellet for this gun. Most reviewers probably chosen JSBs for their reviews since JSBs apparently often kept as allround most suitable brand for target PCP rifles. This gun has gotten so much positive and negative feedback. From side to side. But I am definitely getting myself one when it gets to my local dealer. And getting of those GTOs too. The shotcount somehow seems to drop as time goes by. Steph from SIG said 200 at Shot Show, then came 150-160.. And now only 4 mags worth.. But I personally am all good with that 4 mags worth of regulated shots. And that accuracy segment's grouping was better than I expected. The trigger on these Sigs are one of their own. But I have never had anything to complain about.
@Smash Revino Glad that it is out? Oh, yes! Finally! Just wonder though the manner it has come out. Seems guys in the UK got their modded piece in their hands before even decent US videos started to come out by your everyday consumers and not just pro airgun reviewers. And yet apparently some big airgun webstores in the US are just selling out-of-stock.😁 My local airgun retailer will be importing it later in spring/summer. So getting to wait for it myself also. But that gives me time to stuble upon issues and opinions that these guys first in line gets along the way..
Bros...look at my updated information regarding the Virtus. I put it in the description below the video. Sig was very receptive with the information we chatted about.
@@AirgunDetectives Ha! Thank you so very much for the info! Yeah.. I rarely read the descriptions of videos..😁 Rarely someone puts something significant in there - as you truly did there.. Thank you! -An upgraded version with better performance? Oh, man! The ones that are often tight on cash but still pre-ordered this one..they gotta be pissed! And think of the ones in the UK! I really gotta write my retailer and thell them not to be in hurry to import the Virtus yet.. Although.. If it may come already improved.. Where is the fun in that? Just an hour ago I shot my co2 MCX after putting it back together last night. Dialed in the red dot and tested the functions after alterations of internals. Smoothened out the trigger. No tougher resistance at the 2/3 point of the trigger anymore. After that first loose part of the trigger it kinda hit a small "wall" (or a steep climb if you will) that you had to pull over before the trigger got lighter once again before the releasing point. Now it rolls smoother than ever - and will probably smoothen out more with use.. Also renewed the firing pin. The original pin was just pressed in there - so, after it fell out once (an issue others have suffered from also on their MCX/MPXs), I decided to switch it to a steel bolt with threads all through the rear of the gaschamber. Made a longer and round nut on the back of the gaschamber that secures the bolt and also functions as a small guide rod for the spring within the tube behind. Filed also a bit the latch that drops down onto the belt and stops it at the barrel.. Allkinda small things. The first time ever I did not take it apart and put it back together all in one late evening..😂 Just shot one 12g capsule/30rd mag this morning, but it seemed to work promisingly well. Hope it just keeps up like this.. ..And allkinda small things like these I would have been expecting to do on the Virtus also..(just to keep this long last text somehow related to the Virtus😂)...
@@brorjordas1979 good job on that trigger work and firing pin replacement! You'll have to do a video on that custom work. I shared that info with SIG that I shared with you. More psi, raised lips in the mag belt, heavy trigger. They advised they are addressing it and the newer version "will have much better performance" I will test one of those as soon as they are complete. I am still waiting on my 1200, 1500 and 1800 psi regulators. Will still test those just for fun.
@@AirgunDetectives I bet you are going to test that improved version.😁 Will be interesting to see how much it may differ from this first edition. After changing that firing pin on my co2 MCX it shoots noticeably harder - or at least as long the co2 has not cooled. Seemed to keep the power up better this morning than before. Had a too long head on the prototype firing pin before, so it only gave about 10 hard shots before starting rapidly to cool too much. But those hard shots gave good results on target - while those sloppier shots also gave a wider spread on the grouping sideways. I mostly want this Virtus to get the cooling factor away from the equation. I dunno - but as if the fps would remarkably affect the sideway spread also. I shot my 30 shots today with an unmodded magbelt - and it seemed quite accurate. Only shot from approx 10 meters (unmeasured) of course - because of not having a clue how much off target the red dot might be. But I am hoping/guessing a harder shooting Virtus might also be more accurate. I hate it when I hear a noticeable difference in the sound of a shot with the co2 MCX - then I just KNOW that a grouping has gotten an awful flyer somewhere. But luckily, I did not hear that today.😁 Just awaiting for your regulator tests. Will be interesting to see the differences in percentage rates between the raised psi and fps.. Probably not gonna do videos. But I do every now and then put up pics on airgun related FB groups of my mods and stuff.. I usually take pics - just for documentation. No need to rely so much on memory - and then cancalways show actual parts instead of just describing them.
***Update (March 11, 2020) Recently I have been in communication with SIG Air and shared some technical feedback with the current Virtus model. SIG just advised they will be updating and improving the performance of the rifle and the newer version should be released sometime this summer. As soon as I get an updated model I will be featuring a "New" and complete review! So..."Stay Tuned for Airgun Detectives"
@@Mkv_jaahze the Virtus is being updated and improved so let's wait for that version which should be out this summer. The MCX Co2 was less powerful, but pretty accurate and less money. They both have a place in anyone's airgun collection 👍
Best airgun review I've ever watched is there a review with the upgraded model. I have an M rod and fell in love with the PCP on a budget.,this one looks good.
Great video. The Virtus is awesome, I have mine for almost two months and I can tell you that is one of the most amazing guns you can get. Once again great video.
Believe it or not I was getting some shots that were 14 ft lbs with my Sig Sauer Virtus using 15.89 grain JSB Exact Jumbo Diabolo @ 630 fps. Most shots were in the mid to high 13’s. BTW, the tank must be removed from the gun when filling with a hand pump when the gun is new or when the tank is empty - otherwise you will hear air hiss out the breach. Also - don’t forget to use a moisture filter between the pump and the tank. You do not want water or oil trapped in your tank to infiltrate your gun and ruin the seals. Sometimes the gun will fail to fire a pellet when the trigger advances the belt, so it’s a good idea to check to make sure all pellets were fired after removing the clip. Also - 120 shots per tank is absolutely correct. That’s precisely what I get (4 clips per tank). Thanks for the thorough review!
Sold. I am picking one up today. Great job , you answered all my questions about this air rifle. This is really what I wanted. They come delivered with air in the canister? Great info… Thanks again ✅
I really don't mind a much higher power lower shot count version of this that is fully automatic. That would make it a very compelling and unique offering.
I’ve been watching a lot of Air Gun channels over the past 6-8 months in anticipation of this rifle. You by far have done the best job,From unboxing & description to testing.Very well done and professional.40 Yards is damn good.I think this would destroy Squirrels and other pests within 20-25 yards.I haven’t got one yet,but this will be my next Airgun.Thank You.Again,Great Job!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Did you ever get to test the 2nd batch since the release of this video?? If so, was there any noticeable differences that you could confidently say is a “plus” from the previous version? I’ve been wanting to go small-game hunting with my little brother (who has a .177 Rattler Canebrake, 695 fps with 5.2G pellets) and I’ve been looking for something semi-auto with decent power and precision at 20-30yards. Would this be reliable for ethical 1-2 shot kills within that range? Been looking into using Gamo Luxor CU .22 9.9G paired with this rifle!
Thanks again for your comments. This model I tried shooting rounds with the pellet seater and without. It made no difference in accuracy but certain pellets it actually pushed them in too far. So I found it works better without the seater. But a very fun gun!
The update version should be out sometime this summer and it should be greatly improved. I will feature that as soon as it is released. Thank for watching. I love Kauai, I was just there last summer 👍
40 yards using GTO WOW. I was using JSB 15.89 gr. exact jumbo Diablo since all my PCP 22 rifles loves it. I just got mine 2 weeks ago and loving it. Good review bro. Keep them coming. I waited for this 22 to arrive. I hate the 177.
I put over 600 hundred rounds through it and tested at least 24 different pellets. It is a fun rifle! Thanks for watching and I appreciate you commenting!
I bought one in early 2021 and I love it I have actually taken down a medium size ferrel hog with a shot to the eye socket at 50 yards of course I did over pressure it by 300 psi and the only issue I have had with it is the o ring in the fill nipple went bad but it is a few years old however I do have to mention that I did take the factory sights off and mounted a decent scope
Glad to know you’re getting better velocity results. I watched a half air gunner half comedian (arguable) with a little R2D2 robot who claimed an average of 500 FPS. I just bought one of these for a buddy of mine and want him to be satisfied.
Thank you...I just heard from Sig yoday. The updated rifle is supposed to be released today. I should be getting one to review in the next few weeks. I hope they made some significant changes with the magazine belt. They didn't share any info with me yet, but we will examine every detail. #staytunedforairgundetectives
@@AirgunDetectives If you will get that gun and how it works or anything, please make a short video or message. :) That is very usefull. I'm thinking also about SIG MCX 4.5 CO2 and convert it to use 12g capsules. I don't know if the power is lower when using conversion, or is there some kind of regulator which takes mostly the exact same amount every shot? For me buying that kind of stuff like PCP scuba tank, or pumping on the shooting range for half an hour makes it difficult to fully want to buy that kind of gun. Anybody know if that conversion for MCX 4.5 is worth it?
Actually, it works better without the pellet seater. Unlike the .177 Co2 MCX version. Just push the pellets in flat and it is ready to go! I tested it with many pellets using the seater and without. The accuracy was no different but I found with several pellets the seater would push the pellets in too far and cause a jam. So it worked flawlessly without the tool. I should have covered that!! Thanks for watching 👍
@@AirgunDetectives that response is really interesting, which leads me on to ask, does the non seating of the pellets account for the rather heavy trigger pull? Does the pellets you recommend have a softer or thinner/wider skirt?
@@harryzero1566 I actually tested the trigger pull on camera with the belt removed from the magazine. I was totally surprised that trigger registered at 9 lbs. I tested it about 6 separated times with and without the magazine with the same results. You would never guess that trigger was even close to that weight. There is just one very short heavy spot in the beginning of the pull then it lightens up before you go to the release point and the gun fires. That is why the trigger weight is so deceiving.
The pellet that works the best, GTO, is made of an alloy rather than lead. The skirts maintain their shape better than the lead after they are pushed into the belt. The belt actually causes small cuts or grooves in the pellet skirts. That causes an unbalanced trajectory and affects the accuracy. I am going to modify a belt and attempt to reduce the groves. I think I can improve the accuracy. If successful I will do another video showing how to accomplish this.
@@AirgunDetectives those answers are so cool, I think the lighter pellets pellets up the power to reach the marketed power., with Sig air guns this is so often the case. It would be interesting to know what the power is with 14-16 grain pellets. 10+ ft lbs I bet. I am now a subscriber.
were did you get the rail to mount the bipod and the bipod I cant find one I just purchased that gun to add to my collection thank you great video from Maine USA
Another really cool video brother I seen you looking at this gun at the 2020 gun show in Las Vegas I was waiting for you to review it on the RUclips channel and I can't wait to buy this gun got to wait till I get my Hatson 135 first but after that this is definitely on the list thanks
I just got it in last Saturday, tested it with about 600 pellets. I wanted to get this review out because many were curious about it as I was. It is really a fun gun. Thanks again for watching 👍
Yes. That all-black UK tank has kept me wondering about it all this time.. Yet any info of what that UK tank's regulator output pressure actually is? Just read so many 7-9fpe mentions of the UK Virtus, that I think they did not get an 1100psi reg output...
The UK dumbed down equivalent, requires a forward push on the trigger to take subsequent shots. A simple external remedy can rectify that, if you check out other youtube channels. Also, the rear cocking lever i think, needs to be used each time you replace the magazine. I would like the trigger pull measured with the pellets seated with the provided tool. At 9lbs, is the trigger action doing the work of the seating tool?
Always a great review. I was wondering if this gun was decent or not. It's not one I would buy for the price and low power. Yeah, I like the full review, I wanna see it shot and what it can do too.
I really appreciate that video great job. I’ve looking for a decent review of this gun. I’m debating between the Bone collector or the whisper fusion. Thanks again
Every Break-barrel Has the Exact Same Velocity, depending on Pellet Weight, Regardless of Model or Manufacturer. The MCX .22 is the Repeater Everyone's Been waiting for! Until .30 or Greater, that is...😉
So is the trigger pull so heavy because it also indexes the next pellet or is that powered by the air? Also can it be adjusted. Im looking at this because i actually want a low power PCP. Semi auto is just a plus
I would have never guessed it was a 9 lb. trigger. I would have guessed 5 at the most. That belt is light and smooth so it is just the mechanism. I tested the trigger without the magazine with the same results. But, I kid you not, it is pretty smooth. No adjustment but I would guess it will get even smoother in time.
@@AirgunDetectives Just tried the Carbine and it's awesome. It may feel a bit cheap because it's plastic, but the accuracy is really dead on. And you can compensate with the vindage sight. An absolute awesome plinker. You will love it^^
I tested it both ways. With the seater and without. It makes absolutely no difference on this gun. The .177 Co2 version you absolutely need the seater. In fact this seater pushed in some pellets a little too far causing the belt to jam. It works best without. I should have covered that. ☹ Thanks for watching👍
im really interested in this rifle. I need a good rat buster something semi auto the rats run all day and night. i have breakbarrel set up with night vision but takes to long to load. for the price i think good option. i even thought about the mcx converted to hpa. im lil concerned about fps with both most my shot will be 20 to 30 yards.what would you recommend and not break the bank?
I have the MPX and I am loving it, a question, would you buy a mcx or the new model, my thoughts are they look like each other and the shoot the same, I found the berata that one has also 30 shots but it is more expensive, I am doing this like 4months and I have 3 guns and 2 rifles, but here in Belgium we don't have the optimal shooting conditions
Not sure what the updates will address, but hopefully accuracy and the trigger! But it was a fun rifle and I guess I got a good one as far as the first generation. I did send it back and will review the new model as soon as it is released. Thanks for watching!
I have FINALLY gotten myself to order this one! After a loooong wait of..3 years already (since Sig told one is to be released)?😂 I am SO excited!!!! WOOO-HOO!!! Gonna surely take my time opening that box it comes in..
You'll have to update me on your modifications. I know you'll never leave it stock. This is basically the Co2 version shooting 1200 psi regulated air. The .22 caliber is a nice touch. 👌
@@AirgunDetectives Sure will inform you. What? That I would not leave it stock?..😂😂😉 Yup. I guess you know me.😁 Yes. I do think it is basically same as them co2 versions - but with some parts changed for the use of air.. I gladly woulda gotten this in .177 - just because larger spaces needs more air to fill it up - and I prefer flatter trajectories. I do have now had time to see comments online by other owner's mods and so on. Will see what I dare, can and will be doing. I do though think I'll never go up to a 1500psi regulator mod as someone did. Probably a bit too much imo.. The rifle do state it's max pressure after all - and I would not like to risk my rifle, that cost me over €500 and has no spare parts sold online (as far as I know).. Now. Time for me to open that parcel I received today...😁😁😁😁😁😁 (hope all is good. Thumbs up.)
@@AirgunDetectives Had my own private unboxing last night.. Dunno where the copyright texts are. Not sure where to search for a date-stamp. But I think I got a "First Edition"...🙄 -First thought truly was "Wow! This seems a bit heavier.". But the bottle wiggle is just..Wow! Never noticed that kind of a wiggle in review videos. And after putting the bottle onto it - the rifle front also started kinda sounding odd. But I guess it is because of the loose handguard fit and a two-part plastic outer barrel/shroud. I never kinda realized the outer barrel being polymer (wtf? I woulda preferred aluminium myself, absolutely) - and the two parts not fitting that well into each other, and may draw the shroud into a left or right tilt when the inner barrel end cap is tightened against the front part of the outer barrel. I think the outer barrel joint needs some slight, fine redoing so that the outer rim of the outer barrel joint is compressed into each other and not the slightly too long flat head-cut fitting.. I do kinda like the idea of this outer barrel. Inner barrel screwed in, outer barrel attached around it, a nut draws the inner barrel while compressing the outer shroud/barrel tight - but the parts could have been done better and be more refined. The inner barrel sticks alone out from the receiver very sturdy - but after the installment of the outer shroud and handguard..THEN you seem to get some movement in the front also.. Tested my DIY electric hand pump machine for the first time with an actual bottle now. Only pumped the bottle up to the green zone. I had to test that one too of course, to see if the bottle sorks as should. Gonna test shoot the rifle "as is" at first of course. Then can decide if I truly wanna keep this one or just send it back - and buy from another retailer that most probably now got of the second batch.. But of course I'd wanna keep this one.😁 I kinda like the idea of the challenge that I've been sant. But only if it works as should, without any accuracy expectations and all. The internal mechanical action seemed good. The cone behind the mag gets moved fully out before the piring pin gets fired. The mag sits sturdy and goes all the way up without any up-down movement. The belt stopper fork moves all the way down as it should.. All this could be seen within the magwell. The trigger just needs to be worked in - or given straight away a filing/polishing job.😁 But, will see. Gonna have time all by myself next week. Good time to test shoot - and maybe tear it all apart if deciding to keep it, which I most probably will...
@@brorjordas1979 the bottle usually stabilized once it is full of air. In my opinion not a big difference in performance between Gen1 and Gen 2. They only had Gen-1 out for a few weeks over a year ago. They recalled them from the distributors. The odds of you having a Gen-1 are very slim. Somehow I think you'll make a good shooter out of it. Keep me posted 👍
@@AirgunDetectives I do have read the bottle oughta stabilize after filling it up - but also read that according to Sig it is not supposed to be sloppy like that at any point. Someone patched that up by just adding a couple of o-rings upon the regulator neck so it'll hold stiff against the rear of the rifle. But I'd wanna fix that bottle wobble internally - if taken the rifle apart. Seems like loosely fitted internals to me. Kinda odd though. The co2 MCX had very well fitted parts whenever they were meant to fit tight. Okay.. Thanks for the info! We usually do get late shipments of all products over here in FIN. Therefore I'd then not take it as a gen1. Especially if gen1 taken from the market that fast. Tested pumping just the bottle last night. Slowly got pressure built. But now gotten to think ifbI oughta have pumped it when attached to the rifle.. So I now decided to empty the bottle by twisting it slowly onto the rifle and let it leak out. Dunno how these seals hold up a full bottle. But apparently air also came out thru the barrel - which now means of course that the valve inside is leaking..🙄 Just getting a steonger urge to just take it apart..😂 I did after all also void the warranty on my co2 MCX before getting to shoot a single shot with it.😂 No idea why this all is happening to me..😂😂😂
Excellent video, just what I was looking for. I'm trying to decide between the MCX and the MCX Virtus. Which do you recommend? Is there a noticable velocity/energy difference? I'm looking for a plinker but also want to be able to kill some pests like squirrels attacking my feeders. Thanks.
Great video but 650 dollars over here in the uk is just to much money also because of our laws on semi automatics you have to push the trigger forward after every shot to reset it's a pity as it looks a great gun
Very exciting. I have the SIG MPX, CO2 0.177, setup as a PCP. I really enjoy shooting it. I have the SIG red dot optic on my 0.177 MPX. I would want that for the MCX Virtus.
Perhaps you Should Watch More Airgun Detective Videos. It's the Same Gun in a Larger Caliber, hence the Lower Velocity. You Should Try a Heavier Pellet
Can I store the rifle with the full pcp tank installed? Or is it bad for the seals? Most of my use will be for pest control so I don't plan on using a whole air tank each time I shoot. Just curious on proper storing methods.
With lead pellets it has some issues. I have spoken with Sig and shared some extensive issues. They were very receptive and are addressing these with the goal of drastically improving the performance. The newest model should be released this summer. I will be reviewing that model as soon as they are completed. Thanks for watching!!
@Matt Mann The only thing I can say is Sig Air is relatively new in the airgun community. I don't think they have fine tuned the expertise as of yet. Hopefully they'll continue to get better. I don't have a new batch rifle to test so I cannot verify any of the upgrades as far as testing the performance.
Loved the review, thanks for doing it. I am going to get one of these asap. Love the shot count because I like plinking in my back yard and this is perfect for that. Can't wait to get my hands on one! Btw I subbed and hit the bell for all notifications. Going to go watch part two now. Thanks again man!
I appreciate you watching the updated version is due out anytime. I am anxious to see how well they improved it. Thank you for subscribing and I appreciate your comments 👍
@@AirgunDetectives Didn't know they were coming out with an updated version. I think I will wait for your review before I buy one. Looking forward to it! Have a great day!
Great video. Certainly a fan here. Could you also put the brand the model of the sight you use for the MCX Virtus in the description? Looks pretty awesome. Now I want to get the same sight you have, perhaps the stand as well.
Good stuff!! I have seen in another video the tip of the barrel unscrews revealing a 1/2 inch unf thread fitting for a moderator, it looks different than your rifle. Wondering if that is an overseas model. I own the co2 mpx that I've converted with the Pyramyd Air conversion kit, it's not terribly accurate but alot of fun. Thanks for the complete review.
Curtis thanks for your comments! That is a Visionking 1.25-5x26 Rifle scope 30 mm with three-pin German1 Reticle 223 &Rings. You can get it on Ebay for around $80.00. For the money you can't beat it. Amazing quality.
I love the look and performance of the gun but 11 12 ft lb 4 .22 caliber that's just not enough for me I'm sure there's probably a way to modded though
I guess it depends on what you use it for. I would be curious how this would work regulated at 1600 psi over the stock 1100 psi. I would guess you could get other valves since this is a Nija paintball type tank.
@@AirgunDetectives no doubt this would be a great little plinker and small testing air gun for sure you did a great job with the review keep up the great work
@@angelsdevils2956 don't waste your time..I tried using several different regulators 1200, 1600, 1900. None of them work because the rifle is internally regulated as well. Notice on the side of the rifle, on the Mag well it states "1200 PSI Max". This is not a true PCP, It is basically a Co2 rifle using high pressure air. That is the reason for the inconsistent accuracy. There is a variation in the air that is released with each shot. The rifle is fun for what it is. My rifle already developed some type of leak. If I leave the bottle attached it will be empty within a week.
Love the Sig air-15. Wouldn't mind having one of those in my collection. Would definitely turn it up a bit for what I would use it for. Longer range plinking and Hunting of course well pest animal Hunting. Great review my airgun detective friend. I like it.
Not sure if they did any updates on the rifle as they claimed? Sig has refused to reach out to me as far as letting me test the newer batch of rifles. I was promised one over 6 months ago and it has not happened. I continue to reach out to no avail at this time.🤔
Great review, I just got mine. Could you do a video about how to fill the gun. I purchased a hand pump, but need some guidance on how to attach the fill valve and which one. Thanks!
Ed...looks like they are going to update the performance on this rifle. Look at my comments under the video section I just posted today. You might want to consider returning it and wait for the updated model this summer. Just a thought.
@@vangoghaway626 Yes...The batch that was released has the updates. The 2nd batch will have the same updates but a meatier stock. I have not personally inspected the new batch, but per Sig they have been updated. The key test will be the accuracy. Let me know how yours performs with lead pellets.
Very informative review. Two questions for you, 1) how does one know if they are getting the updated version? Is there a serial number range? I bought one online last night before watching your video. 2) Any recommendations for a moderator/suppressor?
My contact at Sig is no longer there so it is difficult for me to get information. They simply barely respond. I can only go by the information that was provided which I did post. They were supposed to send me an updated version but I'm not holding my breath. So without testing it I cannot confirm any changes were made.
@@AirgunDetectives Thanks for the quick response. I'm new to air rifles but not SIG. Is a moderator/suppressor necessary for backyard use? I live in TX but there are still neighbors who may not appreciate "pop pop", if you no what I mean. If so, is there a brand/model you can recommend like you did with the VisionKing scope? (which was also helpful advice).
For a moderator you are going to need a custom adapter.DonnyFL does not make them because that is the firearm thread size and he stays away from them.Contact John Hagen at aerotulz@gmail.com.He is on Donnys website. He made one for my Virtus and it came out great.Adapter will be 1/2+28 to 1/2+20 for standard thread size moderators.
Great review. I will be getting one at the end of this month. Will it be the new improved version or the older version? Did SIG mention what the performance improvements would be? thx
Hi Mike, I addressed several issues and was informed by their engineers they would be addressing them. The new version should be released by this summer. But don't hold your breath. I should be receiving one to test from Sig as soon as they are ready. But they will only be selling the updated models. Be patient is should be worth the wait👍
@@thirtynotsixspringfield8503 I would see about returning it or exchanging it for the upgraded model. It should have a warrantee and I would think Sig will honor that.
Love the look of it and the fun factor... But one thing always bothers me and its why the dont shape the tank like a real stock .im sure you would then have a much bigger air supply also.. and it would look far better in my mind anyway.. Is there a reason why all the air bottles are round is it a pressure thing stronger that way? sorry im not an engineer im using an educated guess because im sure other people have thought the same thing and wondered why the stock is not used as a tank instead... any way mind wondering thats all appreciate the review gun looks like alot of fun plinking and maybe Ratting .👍💯👍
Round bottles because they are much easier to manufacture for high strength. They have to hold 3k psi plus. They could build a stock around it but the price goes up. They did a good job with the Co2 version. I am going to try an aftermarket bottle and some different regulators in the future.
Does anyone know how to tell if you own & updated model or the old one? The first one I bought, leaked air, had a tough trigger, the tank would wobble when empty, and the barrel had a slight wiggle to it. The 2nd one I bought about 6 months later, has a much smoother trigger pull, the air tank still wobbles on empty, and the barrel still wiggles a little bit. Those seem to be pretty in common in the pcp models. Sig is there, but not quite yet. Those little issues, although minor, make it an average gun, short of being a great riffle.
The empty tank wiggle is normal. It solidifies when it's under pressure. As far as versions, everything sold after July 2020 should be the updated model. They are really fun rifles but they are based on their Co2 model design. This is not quite a true PCP just yet. Hopefully in the future they'll design a pure pcp. Happy Shooting 👍
@@AirgunDetectives thank you for the input. Despite those short-comings, this riffle is so much fun to shoot. Your videos have been instructive. What are you thoughts on the new MCX Virtus Rattler Canebrake .177 CO2?
It’s a ok rifle , I wouldn’t consider it up there with other pcp 5 stars .. maybe 3 stars just base on the fact that it’s foot pound is lower and pellet picky and group is good . I got the second design tank with the green and red gauge I would have settle for 100 shots max (90 effective shots) per fill . And boost the foot pound
Hi Chris, I got really lucky with the first one I tested because it actually had a good performance. I am hoping to get one from the new Batch to test. I want to confirm the upgrades first hand. Hopefully I'll have one soon. Thanks for tuning in👍😉

It's a habit lol
It's odd how positive the USA reviews are on this gun, and how _totally abysmal_ the version sold in Europe perform. Way less power, horrible precission, useless consistency. In Europe, Sig dropped the Ninja bottle®ulator parts the gun was first shown with and put in some really cheap and nasty PCP parts. Several users saw their guns fail within the first week, and a LOT of users are actually grouping together and searching for a way to file a group complaint in the matter. Not sure what Sig did to the non-US versions but it's not good and Sig kinda says "not our problem". Sad, as I was looking forward to this one, but I'm glad for you guys the US versions are good. I tested it here in Europe and it was _absolute crap_ which is odd, as the MCX is actually pretty decent here too. Personally, how much I was looking forward to this one, I'm gonna let it pass till Sig gets their act together in terms of quality control.
They are coming out with a handpump. Not sure if it is there's or just re-labeled from another manufacturer . They should have the updated version of the Virtus out this simmer, but with the Covid-19 setback I wouldn't hold your breath! Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments.
Hi , Iam picking up my Sig Virtus mix tomorrow. I carn't find the predator pellet here in England. So which uther pellets come close the predator for accuracy ? . Thank you 😊 Simon from England
Simon, I hope you have the updated version know as "Batch 1 or Batch 2" Not sure of the performance of the newer models. most of the lead pellets were very close in the one I tested, but the Predators were in a class all by themselves.😉👍

Great Video.....Got a quick question that Nobody is really talking about they just do promo's for these guns. Why do these guns stop working just after a few hundred rounds, suppose to be 15.000 rounds ?? I'm on my third one....... Sig has replaced two because it could not be repaired and the FPS is far less than 600 to 700, more like 350 to 400 fps, somebody needs to get the facts right! thank...... keep up the good work.
Mine leaks air now if the tank is attached to the rifle and I only have 500 rounds through it. When they advertise FPS, this is the case with many manufacturers, they use alloy pellet or a really light lead pellet. So your common pellet does not achieve the claimed FPS. The more I studied this rifle it is not built on a PCP platform. It is designed on a Co2 platform and adapted to shoot in a PCP style. Regardless, when it is functioning it is really fun to shoot.
The co2 versions often stop firing due to the firing pin popping outta place. (The pin is just pushed in there by force. I think no glue has been used). As a result all seems good - but no gas get released. Then you often can hear the pin rattling inside of the gun. Happened to my own MCX once too. Easy fix though. The Virtus can also leak. Many do not lube them due them being classed as a PCP rifle. But some drops of silicone oil into the rear of the Virtus before attaching the tank will keep the valve lubed and working all good. No need to lube that often though. I've now shot about 2500-3000 shots thru my Virtus and I've been all good. I have though had the Virtus apart lots of times - but mainly for other reasons (plain interest at first - and later on some power and trigger tuning etc). But the Virtus has worked way well for me at least. I have not put mine away ever since I got it (probably 4 months ago, maybe). A way awesome can killer!
@@AirgunDetectives I have had mine for about 18 months now and have put hundreds and hundreds of pellets through it and just recently I noticed that the pressure was dropping when left for a week or so.
Such a bummer Sig didn't put a little better effort and quality materials into this pcp and their co2 pellet guns. Could have been really great but too many issues with them
That really is not a true PCP rifle. They took the Co2 platform and turned it into a PCP. I don't think Sig is putting too much effort into their Airgun Division. The firearm side is flourishing. I think they stopped producing their Breakbarrel. Thanks for tuning in 👍
***Update(July 14, 2020) I have been in touch with Sig and here is a brief summary of the updates:
The batch that is currently being released:
For improved accuracy they added an 11mm OD inner barrel, they also improved feed/belt mechanism. To improve the velocity they increased the inner valve and updated the trigger for a better feel.
On the next batch: All the improvement listed above in addition to the beefing up the handguard and they switched from countersunk to low-profile screws. "I hope to have one of the 2nd batch model to complete my independent review".
Is it possible to remove the tank when it's still filled? Or is there at least a method of degassing it?
One more question...two actually...were the 21 grain h&n slugs among what you tested? If so, what kind of accuracy would they get, despite the reduced velocity?
@@vangoghaway626 This rifle should shoot nothing over 14.3 gr. Let's see what the 2nd batch produces.
@@vangoghaway626 You can remove the tank but it is a bit difficult with the pressure.
Hands down the best review out their for this gun.
Thanks Victor and I appreciate you watching 👍😉
And yet apparently some big airgun webstores in the US are just selling out-of-stock.😁
My local airgun retailer will be importing it later in spring/summer.
But luckily, I did not hear that today.😁
Just awaiting for your regulator tests.
Airgun Detectives what of the two was better, in terms of accuracy and performance, the mcx .177 or the mcx .22 virtus?
@@Mkv_jaahze the Virtus is being updated and improved so let's wait for that version which should be out this summer. The MCX Co2 was less powerful, but pretty accurate and less money. They both have a place in anyone's airgun collection 👍
Airgun Detectives how do people get below 400 FPS with the mcx .177?
@@Mkv_jaahze maybe a really heavy pellet? That drops the FPS.

Great review! I converted my MPX to PCP utilizing the same regulated tank a couple of years ago. Works very well.
how much more fps ?

Thank you for watching and I really appreciate your positive feedback 👍😉
Did you ever get to test the 2nd batch since the release of this video?? If so, was there any noticeable differences that you could confidently say is a “plus” from the previous version? I’ve been wanting to go small-game hunting with my little brother (who has a .177 Rattler Canebrake, 695 fps with 5.2G pellets) and I’ve been looking for something semi-auto with decent power and precision at 20-30yards. Would this be reliable for ethical 1-2 shot kills within that range? Been looking into using Gamo Luxor CU .22 9.9G paired with this rifle!
Nice to see you went straight ahead to make it clear to everyone where the tool was -'and that it actually comes off the buttplate clip.
Thanks again for your comments. This model I tried shooting rounds with the pellet seater and without. It made no difference in accuracy but certain pellets it actually pushed them in too far. So I found it works better without the seater. But a very fun gun!

Great review!
I have to say you shoot this gun much better than anyone else I've seen.
Thank you guys for this informative video. I went thru dozens of MCX and none can compare to the information you guys gave
Thank you...I just heard from Sig yoday. The updated rifle is supposed to be released today. I should be getting one to review in the next few weeks.
You have to push the pellets all the way in on the magazine with the help of that little tool!!!

Any word or rumors about Sig releasing a full auto version of this in the US?
Nothing yet, just rumors at this point.

Awesome review. Answered all my questions
Amazing gun..very Nice review.... 👍👍
Uk models come with a plain black tank. Apart from that a cracking fun plinker.
Yes.
That all-black UK tank has kept me wondering about it all this time..
Yet any info of what that UK tank's regulator output pressure actually is?
Just read so many 7-9fpe mentions of the UK Virtus, that I think they did not get an 1100psi reg output...
Does this guns dust cover open? And can you hunt grouse with it?
The UK dumbed down equivalent, requires a forward push on the trigger to take subsequent shots. A simple external remedy can rectify that, if you check out other youtube channels. Also, the rear cocking lever i think, needs to be used each time you replace the magazine. I would like the trigger pull measured with the pellets seated with the provided tool. At 9lbs, is the trigger action doing the work of the seating tool?
Always a great review. I was wondering if this gun was decent or not. It's not one I would buy for the price and low power. Yeah, I like the full review, I wanna see it shot and what it can do too.
How much does this unit weigh with a scope on it? Great review, very thorough except for weight.
I really appreciate that video great job. I’ve looking for a decent review of this gun.
I’m debating between the Bone collector or the whisper fusion. Thanks again

I have not tested that model. I know it uses a lot of air. But Hatsan makes some good products. Thank you for watching 👍
Can you buy a cover for the air tank? Don't like the fact that they didn't cover it up!
I am sure you can...maybe even a thermos cover👍
@@AirgunDetectives gotcha 👍 thanks for replying, nice review btw😎
So is the trigger pull so heavy because it also indexes the next pellet or is that powered by the air? Also can it be adjusted. Im looking at this because i actually want a low power PCP. Semi auto is just a plus
I would have never guessed it was a 9 lb. trigger. I would have guessed 5 at the most. That belt is light and smooth so it is just the mechanism. I tested the trigger without the magazine with the same results. But, I kid you not, it is pretty smooth. No adjustment but I would guess it will get even smoother in time.

Can't wait for the new version! It just needs some tweaks on the accuracy department and we are golden!

Damn I'm just trying to find one video on refilling the air tank
great review, thanks so much. Can you tell us how many pumps it takes to fill it after 120 shots? Unless you use a compressor/tank...

I guess you know me.😁
Yes.
Thumbs up.)

Dunno where the copyright texts are. Not sure where to search for a date-stamp. But I think I got a "First Edition"...🙄
-First thought truly was "Wow!
But apparently air also came out thru the barrel - which now means of course that the valve inside is leaking..🙄 Just getting a steonger urge to just take it apart..😂 I did after all also void the warranty on my co2 MCX before getting to shoot a single shot with it.😂 No idea why this all is happening to me..😂😂😂
Great review, I'm sold on this. What bipod do you have by the way?
The bipod is just a basic aluminum with a picatinny mount. They are very inexpensive on Ebay. Thanks for watching 👍
Excellent video, just what I was looking for. I'm trying to decide between the MCX and the MCX Virtus. Which do you recommend? Is there a noticable velocity/energy difference? I'm looking for a plinker but also want to be able to kill some pests like squirrels attacking my feeders. Thanks.
I would say the Virtus, it is .22 caliber and much more powerful, but hold off until I review the newest model. Not sure of the updated performance.
This is fun to shoot! I already put 600 plus rounds through it testing it.
Can i pest control with it?
Perhaps you Should Watch More Airgun Detective Videos. It's the Same Gun in a Larger Caliber, hence the Lower Velocity. You Should Try a Heavier Pellet
Nice review, thanks for doing this!
Thank you for tuning in👍
Can I store the rifle with the full pcp tank installed? Or is it bad for the seals? Most of my use will be for pest control so I don't plan on using a whole air tank each time I shoot. Just curious on proper storing methods.
Yes, it is absolutely safe to store with a full tank.👍
i keep hearing in other reviews that this is very inaccurate but this is great!
I am going to try an put a part two video together tonight that will cover a few more detail. There is a 1/2"-28 threaded barrel on it.
Considering How much Stuff is Made in China, there Might be a "Solvent Trap" that fits...
The thread size is 1/2+28.You will need a custom adapter made for 1/2+20.John Hagen at aerotulz@gmail.com.
I Just bought mine.. where did you get the bipod and the scoope?
Is the muzzle fixed or can it be removed for a moderator? If so same threads as most air guns?
Absolutely awesome revue. Will a bicycle shock pump work to fill it?
You need to achieve 3000 psi, you need a specific high pressure pump to achieve that. 😉
Best review of this air rifle! What kind of optic are you using in this video?
Curtis thanks for your comments! That is a Visionking 1.25-5x26 Rifle scope 30 mm with three-pin German1 Reticle 223 &Rings. You can get it on Ebay for around $80.00. For the money you can't beat it. Amazing quality.
@@AirgunDetectives Thank you!
@@AirgunDetectives no doubt this would be a great little plinker and small testing air gun for sure you did a great job with the review keep up the great work
@@AirgunDetectives I recently found out about a possible adjustable external valve regulator that might work for this gun I will be looking into it ..
I continue to reach out to no avail at this time.🤔
@@AirgunDetectives sounds frustrating. I wonder if the platform you shot can be modified for significantly more power??
Hello I intend to acquire a MCX VIRTUS PCP. What kind of grip and bipod do you need because there is no picatinny rail. Thank you David
That has the M-Lok system. so you need to purchase rails that fit that platform.
@@AirgunDetectives got mine maybe a week ago. Is it safe to say that mine was the updated version?
@@vangoghaway626 Yes...The batch that was released has the updates. The 2nd batch will have the same updates but a meatier stock. I have not personally inspected the new batch, but per Sig they have been updated. The key test will be the accuracy. Let me know how yours performs with lead pellets.
@@AirgunDetectives meatier stock as in butt stock?
@@AirgunDetectives i'm not likely to have an opportunity to shoot it anytime soon, but I wanted to scoop it up before it goes back on backorder. lol
Hello, could you tell me what kind of bipod are u using for this rifle? I just buy one....please let mi know....thanks.
I am relatively new to PCP guns, can you tell me do you need a Sig Saur pump for that tank or can you use another one? Thank you.
You can use any high pressure hand pump, tank or compressor that will produce 3000 psi. There are many out there.
@@AirgunDetectives Does this mean we will have to buy a whole other rifle??? What about those that have already shelled out for the first version?
@@thirtynotsixspringfield8503 I would see about returning it or exchanging it for the upgraded model. It should have a warrantee and I would think Sig will honor that.
Does the GTO PREDATOR fit snug in the rail type magazine of the Sig? The JSB RS 13 gr and Diobolo 15 gr were loose and would pop out at times
Yes..they fit secure in the model I tested. I hope to get a new version this year for an updated review. Merry Christmas 🎅🎄
@@AirgunDetectives Cool. Thanks. Feliz Navidad!
@@TheRiddimselecta it's the same rifle as their other Co2 rifles, MCX, MPX but just a cosmetic change.👍
the bottle it comes with is it fully charged when it's comes to you
Is this capable of penetrating zombie skull at 40m? if not what distance will it do that reliably, if at all?
It’s a ok rifle , I wouldn’t consider it up there with other pcp 5 stars .. maybe 3 stars just base on the fact that it’s foot pound is lower and pellet picky and group is good .
I got the second design tank with the green and red gauge
I would have settle for 100 shots max (90 effective shots) per fill . And boost the foot pound
Great review, Waiting for upgrade then ill buy one lots of reviews are negative that's why i am waiting for upgrade.

Hey Lamar, I appreciate you watching and thanks for the comments 👍
Good job with this .22 mcx I got the .177 mcx but the .22 mcx is the one now I really want it knowing sig is coming out with there own hand pump
They are coming out with a handpump. Not sure if it is there's or just re-labeled from another manufacturer . They should have the updated version of the Virtus out this simmer, but with the Covid-19 setback I wouldn't hold your breath! Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments.

Would you be able to fill the tank with an air compressor?
A specialized compressor that goes to 3000 psi or the high pressure hand pump. Either will work.
@@AirgunDetectives do you know if an industrial compressor would work? Or would the hand pump be the best bet?
Industrial Air Compressors Might work, but Not Regulated Tire Inflators
Such a bummer Sig didn't put a little better effort and quality materials into this pcp and their co2 pellet guns. Could have been really great but too many issues with them
That really is not a true PCP rifle. They took the Co2 platform and turned it into a PCP. I don't think Sig is putting too much effort into their Airgun Division. The firearm side is flourishing. I think they stopped producing their Breakbarrel. Thanks for tuning in 👍
@@AirgunDetectives Ya I've seen photos of the inside of the Virtus and it looks like cheap pot metal and plastic like most co2 guns.
