I really like these kind of bands. Like After The Burial, Veil Of Maya, Born Of Osiris, Structures, Circle Of Contempt, Periphery, Animal As Leaders, Meshuggah anddd many more.
Saw them live on GMM 2013. They won a lot of fans there including me. I already knew them for a while but wasn't all too into them. They won me over in less than 60 minutes. They're an atomic clock Live. If you're in this kind of metal, your money will not be wasted if you see AtB play. Guaranteed!
I don't give a fuck how much people compare them to any other band, they are still fucking amazing and extremely talented. At first I didn't like the new album but I listened to it a few times and now I think its one of my favorite albums!
It's a really good idea! I've always sat on mine like Alex Pelletier haha. The pocket sticks give me anxiety in this particular situation because of the proximity to his IEM cable. Imagine dropping your right stick and in reaching for the one in your pocket, you feel both stick and cable in your hand for a fraction of a second then your entire mix goes dead. "click--click--click--click--click--click--cli--........."😰
I remember I saw this band open for As I lay dying. I don’t usually pay attention like that to opening bands, but they opened with this song, and Instantly started bouncing. They were better then As I lay dying
The thing about these guys is they're all real chill and actually make an effort to talk with their fans. When I saw them on All Stars last year they were out there chillin with people by where their merch was and they actually sold their own stuff.
@jobencore The IEMs contain a split of the Kick, Snare, and center Overhead. It also contains click and intro's. He controls all of this himself. Guitars are sent slightly to the Drum monitor as a reference.
i saw them live months ago, this video doesnt prove one ounce how fucking amazing they are. spotlesss show, amazing tones, and the bass drops were so bomb.
@TheMobiusR The dummy kick was just started on Crush em All 2. Up until now it was two single kicks with a trigger. The reason for the dual pedal and one kick was to try to acheive dual mics and triggers without taking up an obscene amount of channels at FOH. We quickly ran into latency issues with mic and trigger and bounced back down to using a mic as a failsafe to the trigger.
@ChildOfBodomx13 They are board feeds. This means its extremely raw. You are not hearing what the room, crowd, and certain outboard gear is doing to them. And they are often louder because there is nothing pushing it BUT the pa, mean while drums and guitars are naturally loud.
The Only band in my opinion to get away with that meshuggah sound and not get boring on the same damn complicated riff all the way through.. They mix it up and thats why i luv em!
@allmetaliswelcome They're chain driven too. They're just double chains. These pedals in the video are direct drive and you can tell by the foot board that they're the Demon Drives
im a big fan of people comparing this, in any way, to meshuggah.this is good.this some beast shit. i thin k that meshuggah just started a new type of sub genre and After The Burial is just making this new genre( which i dub "mesh core") a bigger deal.
what snare is he using? looks like the tama starclassic g-maple, bought a used one cpl of days ago cause they aint for sale first hand anymore. Bought it mostly because i think krimh had a fucking nice snare sound on the latest decapitated album and he used that snare. Best snare i've played so far....
Dear Sick Drummer, Please tell me you will be doing at least one of the following drummers soon: Sean Reinert from Cynic, Martin Axenrot from Opeth, and/or Luc Hess from The Ocean?!!! All are on tour right now or about to be! K thanks
@samsoniusz A lot of drummers use this setup because A) It looks cool, and B) The second bass drum lets them put more stuff on the kit. Why they don't just use both kicks to play on is beyond me.
@jobencore Beaters definitely look like Demon Drive as does the foot board. So I'd say almost definitely Demon Drives. No idea about the in ears though
@MarsHolst20 um to be fair the technicality ATB possesses stacks well with Messhuggah jus ATB uses more melody in their playing. Doesnt matter how long youve been around. And btw i love both bands
@sickdrummerdotcom no.. i mean this doesn't sound like atb vocals at all, and the other video doesn't sound like vom vocals at all. it doesn't even sound like they're just straining from doing it live, they both sound like cover bands. even the guitars sound weird.
I don't think this band is ripping off Meshuggah. They are using the same tone and sure, they are using 8 string guitars but, one song isn't enough to judge them as a whole. They're a pretty fuckin' solid band who pull off this sound really well, whether or not it's emulating a band they obviously take inspiration from. They bring in the elements of "hardcore" and noodly "metalcore" together tastefully as a whole, I think. That being said, I'm ashamed I called it more than "metal" just now.
Two questions sickdrummer. 1) What kind of pedal is that? Can't tell if it's a demon drive or a tama 2) Is he using just in ear monitors to hear everyone else or is it a click?
The death metal topic can go many ways 'Possessed' made the song 'death metal', 'Death' is the band Death thus death metal. 'Necrophagia' was around 1983 making the first types of death topics for death metal with a really thrash sound on their very first album. All being pioneers of the genre as blackheart103 stated earlier, truthfully I do not know who began death metals genre
The bridge groove at 2:33 is in a very oddball meter, not easy to play at all the way he's got the tom hits placed. Sure, a lack of fills but in this case his playing fits the song I think.
Sorry for being ten years late, but if you listen with headphones you can hear that he's following the guitar with the tone of his drums. Genius drumming
I really like these kind of bands. Like After The Burial, Veil Of Maya, Born Of Osiris, Structures, Circle Of Contempt, Periphery, Animal As Leaders, Meshuggah anddd many more.
dem guitars, so tight, impecable...
Finally Dan's getting some attention, He's an incredible drummer.
At first I didn't like the new album but I listened to it a few times and now I think its one of my favorite albums!
i like that he has extra drumsticks in his pockets
It's a really good idea! I've always sat on mine like Alex Pelletier haha. The pocket sticks give me anxiety in this particular situation because of the proximity to his IEM cable. Imagine dropping your right stick and in reaching for the one in your pocket, you feel both stick and cable in your hand for a fraction of a second then your entire mix goes dead. "click--click--click--click--click--click--cli--........."😰
My troubles have now ceased, and this fortune is now smiling upon me.....
I WANT TO LIKE THIS 1000000000 TIMES
Dude knows his drums that's for damn sure
I remember I saw this band open for As I lay dying. I don’t usually pay attention like that to opening bands, but they opened with this song, and Instantly started bouncing. They were better then As I lay dying
The thing about these guys is they're all real chill and actually make an effort to talk with their fans. When I saw them on All Stars last year they were out there chillin with people by where their merch was and they actually sold their own stuff.
Wow, you sure showed them, champ.
I love how everyone says that this sounds like Meshuggah. After the Burial is a unique band and listen to their other songs, they have their own tone.
you uploaded footage of the drummer of my boyfriend (also a drummer)'s favorite band on his birthday!!!! ...thanks! =]
Flawless execution! Sounds just like it does on the album!
wow i just got the chills this is so good!
Sounds AMAZING!
The mix in this is pretty incredible.
you sir are a scholar and you have my respect.
damn!! this voice sound awesome!!
so smart! :D
respect
After the burial! Dan Carle! woot!
@jobencore The IEMs contain a split of the Kick, Snare, and center Overhead. It also contains click and intro's. He controls all of this himself. Guitars are sent slightly to the Drum monitor as a reference.
I WAS THERE!!!! fuck yes! love this song. :)
Well said.
i saw them live months ago, this video doesnt prove one ounce how fucking amazing they are. spotlesss show, amazing tones, and the bass drops were so bomb.
Thats the fun of music history, we may never know, though at least we can listen.
YEEEES!
Wow this could be a live cd audio recording.....nice quality!!!!
sick ghost notes!
@BloodyHawk39 I liked the Ghost notes it is also about how to keep time.
@senchro like a BOSS!
more after the burial
@TheMobiusR The dummy kick was just started on Crush em All 2. Up until now it was two single kicks with a trigger. The reason for the dual pedal and one kick was to try to acheive dual mics and triggers without taking up an obscene amount of channels at FOH. We quickly ran into latency issues with mic and trigger and bounced back down to using a mic as a failsafe to the trigger.
These guys play tight!
@ChildOfBodomx13 They are board feeds. This means its extremely raw. You are not hearing what the room, crowd, and certain outboard gear is doing to them. And they are often louder because there is nothing pushing it BUT the pa, mean while drums and guitars are naturally loud.
finally....
@senchro
yes, yes he is
yes he is :D
In. The. Pocket.
@steve15666 it's a classical metal drum fill, alternate 2 hits with hands and 2 hits with feet
This band was great.....when they released Rareform for the first time.
Lol not in the video. I was talking about the sick drummer intro.
watching a lefty play confuses me
download video and just flip it horizontally ^_^
My HERO! fuck yeah!
Can't we just agree that ATB and Meshuggah BOTH are amazing?
I've watched so many of these videos that the drum fill in the beginning is simple as shit
@steve15666 That was programmed by DROSS, our technical writer.
theres only so maney sounds in the world, you just got to make them yours. you know what i mean
I also just noticed did like one fill in the entire song.
Mââââââ!!!!!
@dayglowmiffy amen.
im a big fan of people comparing this, in any way, to meshuggah.this is good.this some beast shit. i thin k that meshuggah just started a new type of sub genre and After The Burial is just making this new genre( which i dub "mesh core") a bigger deal.
@ChildOfBodomx13 because there different bands?
@facethewaste47 its just so if you lose a stick, you can grab it quicker cause you're usually sitting on two, one on each side.
One of the best vocals in Djent
what snare is he using? looks like the tama starclassic g-maple, bought a used one cpl of days ago cause they aint for sale first hand anymore. Bought it mostly because i think krimh had a fucking nice snare sound on the latest decapitated album and he used that snare. Best snare i've played so far....
its so weird watching a lefty drummer if your righty lol amazing stuff!!
Dear Sick Drummer,
Please tell me you will be doing at least one of the following drummers soon:
Sean Reinert from Cynic, Martin Axenrot from Opeth, and/or Luc Hess from The Ocean?!!! All are on tour right now or about to be!
K thanks
Pearl demon drive aw yeah!
@samsoniusz
A lot of drummers use this setup because A) It looks cool, and B) The second bass drum lets them put more stuff on the kit. Why they don't just use both kicks to play on is beyond me.
what type of drum fill is in the sick drummer logo to this video can anyone tell me
LOL " EVERYBODY HEADBANG"
Also just noticed something else. On his bass drums, it likes like big white square pieces....what is that?
fucking sick
@hatespreader666 oh yea you're right. but i recognized them as demon drives aswell
@sickdrummerdotcom *THEY'RE
@jobencore Beaters definitely look like Demon Drive as does the foot board. So I'd say almost definitely Demon Drives. No idea about the in ears though
lefty!
@MarsHolst20 um to be fair the technicality ATB possesses stacks well with Messhuggah jus ATB uses more melody in their playing. Doesnt matter how long youve been around. And btw i love both bands
@sickdrummerdotcom no.. i mean this doesn't sound like atb vocals at all, and the other video doesn't sound like vom vocals at all. it doesn't even sound like they're just straining from doing it live, they both sound like cover bands. even the guitars sound weird.
lefty drumming FTW
@BloodyHawk39 they've always had a meshuggah sound. it's a genre, meshuggah founded it. it's called djent, and there's nothing wrong with that.
That being said, I'm ashamed I called it more than "metal" just now.
what pedal is he using?
@TheBlokeWhoIAm Iron Cobra doesn't make any direct drives. They're Demon Drives
Oh yeah, DC is effin good. But look out behind you, Dan Carle! It's your old nemesis Mewwie! And she's out for blood. Haha! -ZH-
0:28 HIPPIE!!!
@facethewaste47 Easier to grab if (when) they drop the stick they are playing with!
The tone is just incredible.
whats the purpose of the white square on his bass head? does it help give the clicky noise?
has to do with the feel of the kick and the back-kick of the bass drum. The clicky noise is pure triggers.
Wolfrik Hordenailer ok, thank you :)
Two questions sickdrummer.
1) What kind of pedal is that? Can't tell if it's a demon drive or a tama
2) Is he using just in ear monitors to hear everyone else or is it a click?
11 years late but a Tama speed cobra I think
And I think it’s both
The death metal topic can go many ways 'Possessed' made the song 'death metal', 'Death' is the band Death thus death metal. 'Necrophagia' was around 1983 making the first types of death topics for death metal with a really thrash sound on their very first album.
All being pioneers of the genre as blackheart103 stated earlier, truthfully I do not know who began death metals genre
It's a lot harder than any of Dan Carle's fills.. or lack there of.
Oh I know what you meant.
Why don"t you guys have any mastodon?
@blackheart103 Everyone has their own opinion on what better is. There aren't stats in music.
i'm not hearing any polyrhythm, sounds pretty straight 4/4 to me. but i DO like this sound a lot
is there any more after the burial footage about to be uploaded?
@bearmtnrider951 Got some Luc Hess last night :)
@TruthBeTold447 the drummer is actualy a lefty
is he a lefty drummer too?
@jr0014 The 90's called, they want that joke back.
wish you could actually hear the ghost notes
is this flipped or is that drummer actually left handed?
him being a lefty makes it look harder to me lol
Replaced the die-cast hoops with triple flanged on the toms I see.
