There shouldn't be any edit mode in the student account. The best way to check a student account is to not use the 'View as a student' option, but instead create a test student account and login with it. This way you really see what a student view looks like. The 'View as a student' option often shows buttons that are not part of the student view due to the system knowing you are still logged in as you and not as a a real student. Hope that makes sense.
