- Mario Kart Retro Rewind was created by ZPL. It eventually will feature every track from every Mario Kart game in the series. The newest update raised the VR cap from 9999 to 30,000. The servers are now on WiiLink so no NAND is required to play online.
The best options are Dolphin emulator and WheelWizard to install Retro Rewind.
This application installs Retro Rewind, boots directly, auto updates and will display all open worldwide rooms.

wait no nand required to play online? omg that's the best news I could've gotten, I installed retro rewind a month or so ago and got so sad when I realized I needed to dump files from my old wii to play online but I have no way to access them now 😭😭😭 this is perfect omg

I think this is the nail in the coffin for CTGP. Especially if ZPL can get the rights to item rain and knockout tournaments.
Ctgp will always be played because it has the best security preventing hacking so it is the best mod for the competitive community

Finally got retro rewind up and running; the wad files for the mod aren’t in the zip folder for the current version, so I had to go back to the last version to find the wad files. I’ve been thinking-what would happen if someone were to go on a 10000+ VR license on Wiimmfi? Would the VR go back down to below 10000 on retro rewind on that license after a race is played on CTGP? Love the content as always, Troy.
Retro Rewind makes a copy of the VR save. After playing a RR worldwide session, if you join a CTGP worldwide you'll just have the same VR as before the RR session.
Also if you do somehow hack your VR to above 9999 on CTGP you get banned as far as I know

I'm coming back to MKWii and it's really confusing. I want to play CTGP-R and Retro Rewind, also online. Installing CTGP-R and Retro Rewind are clear. But does WiiLink now replace Wiimmfii? And is Wiimmfii automatically installed when installing CTGP-R? Don't these both collide when installing both and wanting to play online?
Is WiiLink in competition with CTGP ?
No CTGP is a mod pack that adds new tracks while Wii Link is just a new way to get your Wii online
WiiLink is in competition with Wiimmfi, not with CTGP. Retro Rewind is in competition with CTGP.

@TWD98, I have tried to get CTGP, I have the SD card for it, I have CTGP on the SD card, I have homebrew on my Wii, but I can't get the files to show up. How do I fix this?
@mkwpatsfan Is the file in the Apps folder or separate? Or do you have 2 Apps folders? If the latter, you need to put the CTGP folder from Apps (1) into each Apps folder so that the Homebrew Channel can read the file. You only need 1 Apps folder because if you have multiple Apps folders, the Homebrew Channel won't be able to read them.
@@beccikinomoto5651 I don't know if it has an apps folder, but it for some reason is set up like an SD card for a camera.

How do you see finishing times on retro rewind? I have it installed its working fine but it just doesnt shoe the finishing times

Just curious, is there any way i can know when you're getting on worldwides without my wii being on? I'm on your discord but not a member because I'm broke but i want to play with some challenging people to improve my skill level (I'd call myself a bit above average but not at all competitive)

ZPL is using his own server for WiiLink Retro Rewind games, so he can manually toggle whether a NAND is required or not.
It works without NAND!
