These dolls from the 1990’s almost always need to be restrung. The elastic bands that hold them together disintegrate after 20 years or more. It’s entirely possible that the dolls were whole when they were shipped but that the shaking around in their boxes during shipping caused their degraded elastic to come apart. Anyone who purchases a string doll from this period should expect to have to restring them.
Everytime you lifted a lid and the doll was in pieces it just broke my heart. They are otherwise amazing and beautiful dolls. Sad to see them in pieces.

It’s actually quite easy to fix! My madame Alexander doll was I priced and I fixed her by restringing.
