Sometimes I do that to make the song more interesting (like on Sister Christian, I add a little strum of the power chord just for fun). But I agree with you on that.
ThePeterpunk That C isn't played as a long note, so you have lots of time to move your hand. I think that position was chosen since your hand's already in that area and the rest of the loop is played on the E string

Touching Bass Best feature of rocksmith -- all positions are optional. Only the notes are mandatory.
Touching Bass that note is also on A 2nd fret, he puts his hand in the position but it looks like he’s hitting the 3rd fret
